  3. Jim i found the halfords silver ok, doesnt cost alot, is it the rim thats damaged ??
  4. They do a alloy wheel silver at halfords which was ok for mine, it says it matches the most commonly used manufacturers wheel colour. Dave
  5. I always used to want one then people i know started dying on them and that quickly put me off, couple of mates of mine still have them and they worry me to be honest, i'm just pleased as even they are saying that the roads are just too dangerous for them now and they are gonna just use them as track bikes. There are only two sorts of motorcyclists ones that have have had serious accidents and those that havent had serious accidents YET. For those of you that have them may the force be with you !! Dave
  6. i would never pollute my tank with that filth!! It really doesnt suprise me that it screwed your car up, i'm gutted for you, get to your nearest Esso and fill up with super unleaded that should stop you juddering
  7. MY GOD THEY ARE SHINEY!!!! What did it sting you to get those badboys done ??
  8. you are talking about the auxillary belt tensioner, you might not need a new one, take it off and relube the bearing, you can prise the side of the bearing off and pack it with some decent grease. If its completely knackered they dont cost that much from vw mate, the whole unit that is. or if you get the dimensions of the bearing i found this site that does just about every bearing you can think of, you could give them a try. http://www.bearings2you.com/products.htm
  9. i agree, i've got the standard bbs wheels, they were a little tatty when i got my vr but i had them stripped and powder coated and they now look spot on. i think 15"'s look ok as long as its low, i keep toying with the idea of spacing them out a little but can't decide. Send me the pics and if i can sneak it in i'll PS them for you mate. Dave
  10. standard rims, really low, a man after my own heart !! good choice, i think as VR's get older standard looking mint condition ones will be very sort after, i'm soooooo glsd i stuck with my standard wheels.
  11. i think that you are talking about the crankcase ventilation valve?? if it has a pipe coming from the rocker cover into a disc shaped thing, (this will be where its split, or come apart), we on the same wave length. , these are reknowned for being shit quality and always split, you may have notice an oil smell in your car because of this. You can try and carefully glue it back together with some industrial strength glue or you can get a new one, don't order one from VW as they will charge around £70 you can get the same part from Ford for about £20 ask for a crankcase ventilation valve from
  12. I now work for my family business which is good, worked in retail for 10 years previous to that which was a great laugh sometimes just the money wasn't brilliant, next on my list is some property development, i will also start my own detailing company in the near future. I would like to have a really exciting job like Jack Bauer off 24.
  13. I agree Steve, i pulled up next to amini the other day and it was massive, must weigh more than my VR!! LOL Dave
  14. Never heard of this mate, very strange. Obviousy we all know that cars kangeroo when someone can't drive properly due to clutch control, you can obviously drive so i would imagine that its something wrong with the clutch ?? that would be my first thought, difficult to say without seeing it happen though. Good luck with it anyway. Dave
  15. ??? why if he knows the history and conditon of this one . less hassel just to get the gasket done I would disagree mate, exchange engine doesn't have a history as its completly reconditioned also has 12 months warranty, to do the head gasket and chains ect.. is gonna be around the same cost(unless you do it yourself) whether you know the history of an engine or not isn't gonna make any difference, if an engine has done 100k its got a 100k's wear simple as that. I think i was quoted 1300 quid for an exchange engine, one of the guys on here just paid 750 quid for chains and clutch then head g
  16. if you are gonna start spending that sort of cash i would just get yourself a exchange engine mate.
  17. Stu, Sorry mate, my book has loads of diagrams but none that show pin positions. If you phone up your local VW dealer i'm sure they would check the posistion on there computer for you, it would only take them a minute. Tey've always helped me in the past. Hope you get it sorted mate. Dave
  18. you could try the VW tech site theres s1t loads of diagrams here http://volkswagen.msk.ru/index.php?p=page09_g3
  19. i've got a little manual with some wiring diagrams, i'll be more than happy to dig it out tomoz and check it for you. if i've got the diagram you need i'll scan and beam you it mate. What exactly is your issue ?? Dave
  20. dear god that looks shite
  21. what offset are the wheels that you are trying to fit???
  22. That definatly isnt right mate, i use Yokohama which are reknowned for wearing out pretty quick had them on for a year and they still got plenty of tread, i would complain to kwik fit about the poor set up and hopefully they will replace the tyres, then you should take it to a specialists for a proper set up. Dave
