i standing start raced the mates type r civic 2004 in my standard vr6 countless times and got beat, not by much ( didnt walk over me as i was just behind) but it was hands down slightly quicker, i went past his accord type r and stayed infront, the civics are faster, im bustin to walk past a civic lol

monster you got a point with people under estimating the vr6, we had a real cool (proper underground)cruise few years back in n.ireland ( bishopscourt) it was an old air field run way in the countryside that had drag racing on a sunday night every month sometimes twice a month and i have to say my vr6 suprised me loads of times when put head to head with loads of different faster machinery, it also suprised me when i raced the mates accord type r, thought the accord would have passed me but i had the edge ( i was in front by a couple of car lengths and while he went with me i stayed infront ri

ive got supersprint letterbox style thats upswept with the twin holes inside, fits real neat like factory and is nice and quiet ( wouldnt here it tickin over) but lovely note when on the loud pedal, steady 70mph no drone which is the answer! heard they were good on the vr6 but didnt notice any power gain as some suggest, will take foto and post later -
possibly an e34 bmw, either 525i 535i or540i OR even an m5 ( mates one went by me for a short cut at 165mph and when your doing 140+ thats craZY as was the stones he was kickin up lol) almost bought a 95 daytona violet 525i sport last week only the guy had reversed into askip and wrecked the bootlid and the diff didnt lock at the junction lol offered him about 2/3s of what he was askin but wouldnt budge, may try in few weeks, just for the rwd fun, had a thing for an s2 avant and an interest in a gt4 st205 too ,another mk1gti wouldnt be out of the question either

Suspension advice please
vr666 replied to dstyrrell's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
i put eibach proline springs(50mm) and bilstein shocks in,low but not too low and handles great, yes i could go lower but our roads here are rough as a badgers ball bag so its a case of performance over looks for me, id recommend this combination to anyone not wanting their car on the deck for driving purposes, its tight but not too bangy over big bumps like some budget kits out there -
i drive a 95 vr6 golf 3door mystic blue, owned it since june 2000 after going with my boss to a garage when he bought an audi a4, i spotted the vr6 and took it for a test drive (ill never forget the salesmans colour draining from his face lol) and fell in love with it, sold my old mk2gti to the guy that i bought it off and bought the vr, hated the suspension but sure nothing eibach and bilstein didnt put right, bought with 83k on the clock now sitting with 137k on clock,it needs an engine rebuild and basically a restoration as its taken dogs abuse in the last 6 years, has loads of new bits inc

got a supersprint cat back on mine, fitted perfect, quiet too but still a nice note, no drone at constant 70mph vibes, been on over two years and is still tidy so worth it i suppose
-
cheers, lookin like full rebuild is on the cards, at 137k on the clock i cant really complain lol
-
nice one thats cheap enough, mine are in tatters lol
-
137k and the head gaskets just gone, not bad really as it had a right hard time of it
-
anyone had their head flowed? what sort of gains etc? was it worth the money? mines in need of rebuild and was seriously considerin gettin the head done, be interested to hear any thoughts on the subject
-
just got a new sach clutch in my car, after a bit of stick somethings not right, its now got a biting point starting right at the bottom of the pedal ( when its depressed as soon as you let pedal out it bites), not being a mechanic im not sure what it is but with water flyin out the side of the head its the least of my worrys lol
-
on the subject of side skirts, anyone have any problems with them comming apart, the inside of mine appears to be crumbling away and are they expensive to replace? you can see where the cars been flexing now as its buckled the skirts same place on each side, anyone got fotos of whats underneath once they are removed?

guarenteed it will look a lot better looking in the flesh, i didnt like the shape of the mk5 untill i actually seen it on the road for a while, not fussed on the tailpipes

i never let the tank go below a quarter full if i can help it as i find when your on a long bend it can feel like its runnin outta juice, always seem to be able to get 28 to 30quid into the tank, they definately dont hold as much as they should lol !lol my tank would be filled at least twice a week

30mm Lowering springs...good or bad?
vr666 replied to matth76's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
you get what you pay for, i went for a budget kit last time ( apex ) and it didnt last the pace at all, 29k and the whole thing was ready for the bin im currently running bilstein sprints and eibach springs ( 35 to 55mm drop(?), sits quite low and the handling is tight but not as bangy as the last over the bumps, if your not going for coilovers id recommend this set up, the springs cost 125 and the shocks i cant remember ,around 300 from eurocarparts -
try e bay, i picked one up for 40 sheets, or hit the scrap yards
-
i had mine plugged in to see why the abs light was comming on from time to time, came up sporadic fault in the main abs unit, its only really doing it once every few months or so especially when the cars been running for a long time, lookin like im gonna have to bite the bullet and go get a new one sooner rather than later is this a common fault?

superchargers reliability and servicing costs
vr666 replied to vr666's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
cheers lads, with 124k on the engine its comming near that time for a spruce up, wee car is still going the very best but im tryin to look at all angles and get as much info as poss to help me decide which route to go down, not doing any work myself as im not mechanically minded ( the mate does the work, has pulled me out of many holes and saved me a fortune along the way, hes built all manner of golfs that all went well (others too such as a mk2 escort with a red top pushin 197bhp @wheels badged as 1.3ghia 8) mint machine) but i do enjoy the drivin side immensly! what kind of daily drivin -
seems like more than a few on here have experience of chargers, basically im lookin to know what the running costs are and more importantly how reliable these things are, bear in mind my wee car gets drove on the limit frequently, im talkin serious wound right out up and down the box etc, mate had g60 and he mentioned to me that my driving style wouldnt suit charger in his opinion ( not to mention his! hes a cheek to say im hard on a motor lol) said they dont really like that sort of abuse, im lookin honest opinions from those who run them and maybe drive them hard ( track days etc for eg) ove

german every time for me, the mate has had several type r hondas and apart from the new civic ive passed any other type r ive been up the road with, the civic is quick but how much cash to get one??? we had a real good cruise on an old airfield all last summer ( till the land was sold off) at bishopscourt, full 1/4 racing fairly well organised and drew massive crowds of jap cars amongst others, the vr6 beat a uk spec scooby ( from standing start right thru...good half car length most of way up then i began to pull a gap high in 3rd) and several type rs amongst other makes, infact the mates m
