No luck - G&S and Big Boys Toys no longer stock them. Steve @ SWG is checking with a supplier but recons hella have discontinued them! (pretty much wot everyone's suggested!) Unless steve comes back with anything, I'll have to wait on awesome. Unless anyone's seen them anywhere else recently?

My Magic black VR...............
francisjonno replied to timpletoes's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
You can get them from gpc http://www.gpcvwaudi.com/ -
I'm probably wrong but i thought mk3 exhaust mounts were metal and rubber units that bolt to the underside of the car rather than just being rubber hangers!
-
Yeah it's the all red rear lights i'm after. I've just checked the Hella GB website and the only "Magic colour" rear lights they still do for the mk3 are Green, blue and silver - thanks anyway. I remember that vw dealers used to offer them as dealer fit options. I don't seem to be able to find them anywhere from after market suppliers. I've had a set of in-pro red rear lights on order with awesome for nearly 3 months! - apparently they're on back order in Germany but to be honest i'd rather get hella ones anyway.

My brother used to have a mk3 8v - good solid cars, used to get about 35mpg, not really very quick though. My mum has a mk3 16v which is much nicer to drive than an 8v, still gets about 32-35mpg (37 on motorways) its a nice car and has more direct steering than my VR. Its good to take for a blast every now and then I'd have a 16v over an 8v any day, I think a heavy car like the mk3 needs the extra power. I think i'd need a colour concept or anniversary (no leather but recaros & 8 or 16v) for it to feel special enough if i had to replace my vr6
-
Does anyone know if you can still get these through vw? German & Swedish and Euro don't stock them anymore Thanks Jonno
-
I don't think mk3 Anniversary alloys are still being sold be vw - even if they are they'll be ridiculously expensive (the polo versions are 4 stud). The 16" BBS split rims fitted to the Anniversary (mk3) are very similar (if not the same) to those fitted to many mk4 GTI's (same fitting as mk3) - these come up on ebay all the time, expect to pay up to

Standard fit Sony Stereo Removal
francisjonno replied to Slacky's topic in I.C.E, Security an Electrical
Not sure how to remove a sony other than u need the "keys" (available from car accessory/stereo shops) that slot down each side of the head unit to release the locking pins. I had poor reception and had to fit an inline aerial amplifier (from halfords, takes power from the stereo) to my VR. If the aerial cable sleeving has cut anywhere you'll get poor receiption but its most likely a dodgy connection at the back of the unit or the original aerial amplifier has died (some bee-sting style aerials come with buit-in amplifiers, others don't) Hope this helps Jonno -
I'm coming to the December Rolling Road day, so it looks like I'll get my second opinion (fingers crossed it performs like last time!)
-
Hi vdubgirl Is there space for me to join the rolling road day? pleeeze! !lol (i've pm'd you too)
-
Thanks for the info guys I'm definitely going to have to put it on another RR to see what's going on [blockquote]Might be the very nice cold weather were having at the mo. I've known my BHP differ by up to 20bhp, just cos of the ambient conditions! (and yes that was on the same rolling road, just different times of the year!) Simon[/blockquote] The RR day i went on was in April, so it was a little warmer than now

I'll keep an eye out for a mk3.5 cabrio. Do they all have electric mirrors?
-
I don't think they have holes for the washer jet, the jet is separate on a punto - certainly was on the one i was following into work today I imagine you could drill out a hole in the plastic nut cap, on the punto wiper, for the washer jet (fiddly but do'able i would think)

Earlier this year my VR ('97 OBD2) went on a rolling road (@ at BMW Club RR day). Last night I was looking at my dyno plots and it produced 172bhp and 177lbft at the wheels, the tranmission lost was calculated for my specific car at 37.8 (by doing a number of load runs on the car - i'm not sure how this is really calc'd but know that calc'd flywheel fig's are less than perfect!) . By my reckoning that would give 209.8bhp at the flywheel (do you add trans loss to torque as well?). The only mod i've done is the airfilter (a previous owner may have done something but nothing visable). The car r

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that they're going to be offering this 170bhp engine in the Polo from factory - badged Polo GT too.
-
I've been thinking about this too (i don't fancy removing the rear wiper completely) Might sound stoopid but why doesn't the mk4 aero fit? Is it something to do with the angle of the arm? Doesn't fit onto the motor splines? Or all the above? I'm keeping an eye out for an alternative to the punto wiper but like you say most cars now have the wiper arm connected to the motor directly through the window.

First car at 17 was an 87' Mk2 Polo Coupe S bought with 37k (not bad for a 11 yr old car!) sold with 76k (Pictured at Inters 2002) Fitted with 15" RH, GTI/Scirocco brakes, piper cam, electric fuel pump, DIY polished head, single silencer system (v unusal sound but i loved it at the time!)... and much much more. Pretty much everything got replaced and power up to a mighty 85bhp !amazed (felt like a rocket to me back then!). Far too much money spent but a good intro to dubs

5x120 to 5x100 wheel adaptors
francisjonno posted a topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Hi all Anyone know if/where i can get a set of adaptors (pref 15mm) to convert a 5x120 wheel to fit my VR? -
If you get alloy ones make sure they have helicoiled (think thats what its called) threads. Basically a helicoiled thread is tougher - you wouldn't want the thread to strip! !dodge Otherwise I think using spacers should be fine as long as you make sure all bolts a correctly torqued.

Nice! !lol Most people who do this mod replace the rear glass with some from a CL or GL (anthing other than GTI or VR6) which don't come with spoilers so don't have the holes in the glass for the spoiler.

Hi everyone Some of you have probably already seen this but give it a try (soon b4 they fix it) its good: 1. Go to www.google.com 2. Type in' failure' 3. Press the "I'm feeling lucky" button (instead of the Google search one) 4. Laugh 5. Forward to friends before the Google folks fix this!

Thanks for the info 20JahreGTI. I don't fancy drilling a hole in the door so its either the cult society mirrors or a re-think. Thanks
-
Hi Everyone. Are golf mk3.5 convertable door mirror covers a direct replacement for normal mk3 ones? Or is it a case of replacing the whole mirror assembly? I know cult society do small mk4 'look' covers for the mk3 at about
