  1. Eat this - lots of talk on the Civic website (like all websites) but there's a thread where the general concensus seems to be that 15 secs is about the standard car's time. Just had a quick play in mine (never believe I've only had my licence back for 18 hours!) and did 0-100mph in 14 dead with the quarter in 14.4 measured on an AC22 performance meter (supposedly accurate to within 0.2 secs). Had a bit of wheelspin and noncy 2nd to 3rd gear change so a sub 14 might just be possible with someone who could drive at the wheel and grippy surface! six appeal - great times for a n/a motor. Fancy hav
  2. Mina recorded a 14.3 in my (his) car at GTi Inter 2003. Think it was running just under 300bhp at the time although I think he said the surface was pretty crappy. (Correct me if I'm wrong mate). Sub 14 in a front drive is a really quick time - especially on road tyres. Autocar did 15.2 in a Civic R not 14.2. A second at over 100mph terminal speed would mean a 50 yard gap, 10 or 12 car lengths so I'd be happy taking on a Honda hatch! It's mostly about power to weight ratio and as Minty says, traction (or lack of it!) The Civic only has 164bhp per tonne - about the same as a chipped and filte
  3. Happy Birthday, Claire. 21 already!!?? Flowers and chocolates are in the post.
  4. Back on the Optimax subject, Evo mag did a 1000 mile test on 3 different cars a couple of years ago and recorded tiny improvements in performance on all 3. The real advantage was that Optimax contains a cleaning agent and photos of the valve backs and piston crowns showed a marked reduction in carbon deposits after using Optimax. It seemed to actually get rid of most of the build up of gunk in all 3 engines. I've used it ever since.
  5. Hi mate. Sounds like a right pain in the arse! I've got the Concept 300 in mine and not had any problems apart from it going off when it's really windy. I'm sure they come with a lifetime guarantee if you've got the installation certificate (and live near enough to the place where it was installed). Might be worth checking.
  6. Hello Craig I put 32psi front and 30psi rear in my 215 40 17's and they seem fine on road and track.
  7. acf8181, I got caught at 113mph, mate. "A rare lapse of self control (your worships)" dubloke, Cheers buddy, I'll give Brentacre a call. I'm with HIC at the moment but don't know how they will load my premium with the ban. I've done a few test quotes with Elephant and the length of ban makes no difference whatsoever with them. They load the cost by 140% Toby, I know I got off lightly really, mate. Hopefully learned a lesson. I'd only had the car back from Stealth for a week after a month off the road and she's running so sweetly now she's properly set up (303bhp, 279lbft - probably too much
  8. UPDATE (If anyone's interested). Appeared in court on Tuesday, pleaded guilty, had a sorry schoolboy look on my face and told the magistates how I appreciated that the speed I was doing was totally unacceptable and out of character (half true). I got a 28 day ban and £275 fine which was pretty lenient I thought. Glad I didn't pay the £350 that a solicitor wanted to mitigate for me! Pretty sure I wouldn't have got away without a ban as the 2 guys that went in before me both got 6 points and a fine for doing 101mph and I reckon I had to be made an example of. My only worry now is insurance premi
  9. I think there's another thread about oil temps from last year on the forum. I wouldn't worry about 108 degrees C. Most oil is at optimum lubrication between 80 and 110. My Golf has a Eurotech Racing oil cooler kit. Think these are still available. Not sure whether all VRs have a cooler as standard after a certain year. Didn't think so. I've never seen more than 100 C on the road and only 114 on track (after 20 minutes of chasing a P1 Impreza). My VR Corrado used to run at 104-110 on the motorway and hit over 140 a few times on track (probably not good). 108 is fine but a cooler should knock 20
  10. If they're still trading??!! [ Edited Sat Feb 19 2005, 04:45PM ]
  11. Might be worth giving these guys a call; Midland VW Ltd 21 Conduit Rd, Norton Canes, Cannock, Staffordshire WS11 9TJ Tel: 01543 495700 It was a couple of years ago but they were very helpful (and cheaper than anywhere else) when I got a ZR fitted to my old Corrado.
  12. You're provisionally booked for the next RR Day then, Claire! Got a chauffeur's hat??
  13. We might have pipped the Seat for power but mine doesn't make that much torque (278). Have to agree with you about the sound' date=' Claire. [/quote'] We really missed you there yesterday Mark didn't realise you'd got yourself into a bit of bother = 113mph I bet your little beast aint even got going at that speed ;-) Hope you dont get to much hassle over it Cheers Claire would loved to have been there but had other arrangements. Next time hopefully. Can't have Seats taking cups home, can we??!! Like I said I might need a volunteer driver on the day!
  14. I know, mate. I'm just being a nob - sorry. Some of the turbocharged Saabs and Volvos make massive torque at really low rpm though. Think the T5 S60 makes 258 at 1500rpm!! I need to spin mine to over 4000 to get that. (Volvo doesn't do over 300bhp though )
  15. AMG get 738lb.ft. out of the V12 Merc and BMW push over 400 out of their 3 litre (alright it is a diesel!) Sounds like it was a great day - bit of variety. I'll have to get on the next one - put those 1.8T's in their place! Might need a volunteer to drive the car there though, what with my imminent ban &|

Or 113 ! Bad luck though, mate. Motorway speed limit should be 90 anyway.
  18. Check out the results from the first RR Day (22/02/2004) in Events. There were a few cars with similar spec to yours there. I'd have thought you should be close to 200bhp [ Edited Fri Dec 31 2004, 04:17PM ]
  19. jaysVR6 wrote; "I don't reckon you were caught mate. " I've had the prosecution notice in the post unfortunately, so I've definately been caught at 113mph. MK2R32 - £1500 fine - think I'd rather have a 6 month ban!! I'd have to sell the car to pay a fine like that anyway As for a 177mph Nova - it's possible (I've seen plenty of 200mph Ford Populars at Santa Pod) but using the rule; Required power increase = Relative increase in top speed cubed means that to get a 100bhp Nova GSi (for example) to go from 115mph to 177mph (1.54 times faster) it would need 1.54 x 1.54 x 1.54 times the power. O
  20. Sh*t - SORRY My head's all over the place at the moment! Getting nicked for speeding's not the end of the world compared to that. Feel for you, mate
  21. Just had a look on here; http://www.speed-trap.co.uk The punishments range from a £200 fine and 21 day ban to a year ban and a resit of the driving test!! FOOK! Looks like it depends on whether the magistrate considers speeding to be worse than serial killing. I couldn't pass a driving test nowadays. When I took my test all you had to do was follow the bloke walking in front with a red flag! Nobody else been done at over the ton? (Love the "Golf" cover story, Binliner - only just read it. Great advert for how sweet a MK3 can be 8) ) [ Edited Thu Dec 30 2004, 07:22PM ]
  22. As the title suggests, I've been a pillock. After picking my car up from Stealth after almost a month off the road I've been caught speeding. The most annoying bit about it is that I'd driven past the "safety camera" van an hour before I flew past it - just forgot it was there!! I've had a clean bloody licence for ten years as well. x) Anyone had any experience of what happens when you're caught doing 113mph on a motorway??? (I'm expecting to be off the road again for a while!) What do they say - boys never grow up, they just grow old.
  23. Justin - genuinely feel for you mate. Just read the posts. I know it's bad enough when you prang any car but yours was something special. (Probably not what you want to keep hearing now, sorry!) I've done it in what was my pride and joy at the time and I know how gutting it is but you'll get over it in time and be back putting cars like mine to shame in Show N Shines [ Edited Sun Dec 19 2004, 07:50PM ]
  24. Boost. Can you have too much? Apparently so. I've been in VR6less Hell for almost a month. Although I took the honours (somewhat sheepishly) at the last RR day at Stealth Vince warned me of a problem that I'd suspected for a while - overboosting. It seems that you can't just turn up the wick and get more power by forcing more and more air through an engine. Should have known better after grenading 2 Renault 5 Turbos in the past! Anyway, after 3 weeks and lots of pennies I'm now running 8psi instead of 12 and getting the same power! (4bhp more actually). Suppose I was lucky really (although the
