  1. Dunno - I just drive it! %-6 Have a look on Sunday, Ben.
  2. Ben - how do you tell if it's OBD1 or 2 (apart from year - May 94). Thought 2's weren't around 'til 95.
  3. Cheers, Kev. As helpful and clued up on here as you were on the Corrado forum, mate. The MAF doesn't seem to be causing any problems on the Golf like it did on my Z kitted 'rado (lumpy idle, jerky light throttle response & occasional stall when hot) so I'm taking the "if it ain't broke..." approach. The pinking lasts for a second or two and as you say a more progressive throttle application eliminates it. Perhaps I'll just have to not change down so often for overtaking and use torque instead of power. You going on Sunday?
  4. Or a 2.9 eh Kev? Are you going to the RR Day this weekend? (We met last year when I followed you over to Stealth for the Corrado Day - red M reg with a Z 'charger). Sorry - off topic
  5. Thanks again guys, appreciate your help. The switching point for the Schrick is 4000rpm apparently (see full spec on www.minas.freeuk.com/page3.html). It's running green injectors and the 11psi pulley now though. Like you say - I'll know more after Sunday but it definately sounds like it's to do with upping the boost in the midrange. Mina never had any pinking as far as he knows though. mightyvr6 - thanks for the better informed info on the 2 kits
  6. mightyvr6 is probably the best qualified to answer that one, having had both kits on his car now. As far as I'm aware the ZR2 is fine for 250bhp or thereabouts, whereas the Vortech kit is more upgradeable with different pullies. Both run about 8psi as standard I think. The Z kit has its own oil reservoir which needs checking and topping up occassionally and the Vortech has a feed from the engine. Been told the Vortech is more robust. Mines done over 30,000 miles and still works (keeps fingers crossed). I was advised to get the Z reconditioned after 15k. Think you can get a Z fitted for under £
  7. Can't remember. I was too pikey too actually buy the mag. Might do now though. Just found their test from a couple of years ago in my archives (don't get called anorak for nothin') and the PZeros blew everthing else away in the dry. 1.8 Mondeo was quicker than an M3 on Contis. Really depends if you're after ultimate wet or dry performance. (2 sets would be nice - but the missis would kill me)
  8. Yeh, I found out the hard way how hot the 'charger gets the first time I took the top off the water injection reservoir which is low down in front of the blower. Still got the scorch mark on the back of my arm! &| Sounds much better than the Z kit doesn't it. Does it feel any stronger? Pete - I presume you've had no problems with yours pinking. I s'pose as long as it's just at fairly low revs it should be ok. Just a bit paranoid after melting an engine already this year.
  9. Minty - that's a bitch. Was looking forward to seeing more 'charged VRs. Don't know if it's been mentioned already but the clocks go back at 2am Sunday morning, don't they. So the 9am start is actually 10am BST and we get an extra hour in bed - I think 8) (Good news for those of you on the lash the night before )
  10. Cheers, chaps I'll give BP Ultimate a go see if it makes any difference. Vince did say he'd had some Schricked cars with the same problem. So I should be ok if knock control is working up to 4000rpm? mightyvr6 - how's yours with the Vortech kit?
  11. Been a bit concerned about running lean so went to Stealth yesterday for a fuelling check from Vince - or so I thought! Turned out his new apprentice had booked me in without Vince knowing and not only was he too busy to have a look at my car but he doesn't have any software for the Chipstar at the moment. As usual though, Vince was very helpful and spared the time to have a chat about what the problem could be (if there is one). The symptoms are when dropping down a gear when cruising if the revs are between 3500 and 4000rpm I can hear a definate 'pinking' which disappears after 4k. If I acce
  12. Just had a call back from A Plan to say they have lowered their quote to £550. (Got an auction for my business going on!) The guy did say that some insurance companies are better than others for different locations. Might explain why HIC are cheapest for me and Brentacre for you Minty. Big difference though.
  13. Does anyone else over 30 own a VR6? You can't all be driving Volvo estates (and not V70R's ). On the plus side to being an old giffer I've just finished the yearly frantic insurance company phone-a-thon and been astounded (really). Brentacre (cheers Minty) came out 2nd best in the end (£650) with Tesco wanting a laughable £1953. A Plan were about the same as Brentacre but I went to HIC last and with all mods declared (ok, I said I wasn't sure of exact power output ) I've got comp cover for me and the trouble for £486 !amazed Includes trackdays too if I get a fire extinguisher!? 14. Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's. Bit more pricey than the Toyos but I found them better in the dry (if you're only using them in summer).
  15. Just a superior collection of car mags I imagine. (And a wife that hasn't chucked them out yet )
  16. Performance Car (R.I.P.) stated 2547lb (1150kg) for a 3 door. Evo magazine says 1220kg for a VR Golf and 1250 for a Corrado. I put my 'Rado on a weighbridge (with 17' alloys on it) with half a tank of fuel and it was 1210kg - so take your pick. I'd guess around 1200. Gonna weigh mine next week so I'll let you know (if anyone's still interested )
  17. My step bruv had a 3.2 Touareg until recently. The V6 isn't quite so impressive in a 2 and a half ton 4x4. Drove a VR Sharan a while back and that seemed quicker 8) There's talk of a group buy on superchargers

    VR6 heaven

I try to whistle and go "wooaaaaaaaaaargh" at the same time in mine (can't do it yet). Welcome RALA

    Enlarged tb

Pretty sure I got my Corrado done by this guy. IIRC he fitted mine (exchange) for £20 as well. I know they're a doddle but I'm mechanically challenged %-6 [ Edited Sun Oct 17 2004, 02:51PM ]

    MPG

I got 36.2mpg yesterday on a 20 mile run at 65-70mph. (Doesn't happen often!) Did 11mpg on a trackday which is scary enough but a guy with a 320bhp Scooby P1 said he got 7!!! I've averaged 25mpg over the last month / 500 miles.
  21. Multiply Nm by 0.7376 to convert to lb.ft. 460Nm = 339lb.ft. (Not busy at work at the moment - can you tell? )
  22. In that case I'll defo give them a buzz. At the ripe old age of 35 I should get cover for about £50! Although insurance starts to go up once you get doddery flat cap doesn't it?
