I did! I have no idea what I did now, I'll look but Im sure they're parrallel!

I got the shortened sump from bodge as pictured above! Fits perfectly with my R32 pump. I have an oil cooler in addition so it relatively keeps the standard oil capacity throughout the oil system. Cheers

Today I fitted my 32 pump and shallow sump so obviously drained the oil, my car has only done just over 300 miles since I rebuilt it and I was a bit concerned as to how the oil had gone so dark so soon, I was expecting it to come out pretty clean! It's never gone over 85 degrees according to my SPA gauge and pretty much just done motorways ion that 300 miles... I'm guessing it could just be a mixutre of the overfuelling issue i had and general crap in the engine from it's rebuild stage.. I went for the recommended syntha silver 10/40.. I'm wondering if I should maybe go for something else, bea

Out of interest, how much room is there between the oil pickup pump and sump? Are they near enough touching?
-
Cheers! I'll probably relocate the temp senders to the sump and keep the pressure ones in the filter housing!

Hi, I cna't put my finger on the guage thread in the top of the filter housing being 1/8"bsp or M10 or what?! Basically, I hate the fact of having 2 guage adapter sticking out of the top of it, I want to know if you can get a weld in adapter which could be taped into the sump so I could have the senders for my SPA guages in the gearbox side of the sump.. cheers

Cheers for the info Kev! I've only just flicked through the turbo thread, alot of waffle and not enough time to see whats what! Mistype about the bearing, meant to say is a journal bearing not as good as a roller but I know now after some google searching.. All my rebuild stuff is together now, just got to start ordering up the fun stuff after i've sussed out where I want pipework to run and sort out manifolds to suit! Thanks again

Going to go with the kit from Alamo, a freiend is going to be out there so waiting to see if he can bring it all back.. While Im getting all my questions seen to in here, I'm wonidering what is the best exhaust manifold to go for? I found an ATP one I've seen others with this, wil it clear the bulkhead and brake system? Also, this turbo Garret GT32 Journal Bearing series External wastegate. 73 Trim, .78 A/R wheel. Comes with T3 style divided inlet flange. 6 bolt exhuast outlet I've never seen anyone mention the 32, is this a journal bearing as opposed to a roller bearing? What kinda power can

Good enough for me, schimmel it is!
-
Why do these seem to be the manifolds to have? A friend of mine who makes carbon intake systems for formula renault cars has one on a mk2 VRT and decided to flow tested against a spare standard intake of mine and he said that the original VR intake showed better and "even" flow results where the schimmel had improved flow to 4 and 6 but the rest, especially the back bank of cylinders were worse off so he's actually popping his schimmel up for sale and going to use his factory intake, would have ripped his arm off before but after that im not so sure about getting a schimmel...

Whats the drivability like of an 8.5:1 engine? What would the difference between that and a 9:1 be? Planning on getting the pistons and rods ordered this week so I can get a piston and my block to my borer.. Actually, got to remove that damn crank pulley bolt first!! The scaffolding poles aren't working this time around!lol
-
With this C/R lark, the choices I have are 10:5:1 and 9:1... That pretty much means not alot to me in terms of what is best.. To match what some of you have listed, I assume I would still need some form or spacer gasket? Can someone point me in the right direction pleasee (Looking to order asap!) Thanks

Brilliant, my planned build should push 400 then I'm lost on compressions ratios, what choices do I have and what should I go for?

Cool, so I'll keep the crank standard... I just want a comfortable and reliable 350 odd BHP if I was to aim for a figure.. My ebst mate has a mk1 Focus RS, so it's a 2.0, has had a GT30R on it since 7k miles, now has near 70k on it and still puts down peak boost at 24psi! It has spiked to near 30 sometimes according to his apexi! My budget is kinda open really, what needs to be bought will be over the neat few months.. ARP's all round is part of that, it needs to be bomb proof so no expense will be spared, I really want to reduce the chances of having to pull it all apart as much as possible

Defo a lot of people in the know here. What I have found with VRT's is that everyone likes different things and has different ideas of how it should be done so it does get a bit confusing to know what kit to go for and the best way of setting it up so I'm trying to get the whole mix and then decide whats best according to what I like.. At the moment, it's going into my Golf which is a tarty car which I do eventually intend on tracking but I think when it comes to that stage, I may end up putting this engine into 1.4 Mk3 and keeping it as a sleeper but we'll see.. The intention and reasons I wa

I have a different setup to most, I'll list below No abs, Corrado VR6 servo, 23mm M/C, braided lines throughout, wilwood rear bias valves, 305mm front discs with 4 pot brembos, 280mm rear discs with mk4 calipers, ATE super blue fluid.. Discs and pads are top stuff and in good nick.. Basically, the brakes are terrible, really poor feedback and I can't even lock them, I can stamp my foot down at any speed and the car will come to a gradual stop.. Everything is new and past its running in point, I would have expected them to be a tiny bit sharp.. The vacuum is working and holds pressure as i hear

Black smoke when revving hard
MarkGolf replied to MarkGolf's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Weird.. It's all new.. Rebuilt engine.. Top stuff used too.. New coilpack, new Denso iridium plugs, Schimmel leads... Has a ramair filter, decat'd full system Will try vagcom but its an OBD1 so not sure what this can show.. -
Brilliant! I'm kinda new to the turbo side of things so I'm sure I'll open a thread soon with all my questions.. Like to have a go at doing it all myself. Built my last 3.0 engine so hopefully this should go all good Cheers! Whats the spec on your engine?

I did some research into Alamo autosport or whatever they are called and can't find anything bad about them apart from an engine rebuild taking 2 months rather than 1.. I've shot a mail to eagle and wiseco to see what feedback I can get from them about the ebay sale. It does seem too good to be true but the money saved will nearly pay for the parts on my BVH.. If not, I will be going to pec.com... I'm goign to go for 82mm pistons, not sure what compression I need though..I'm leaning toward a GT30 at the mo but i could stil sway for a rotrex

Black smoke when revving hard

Does pop and flame.. What could be the cause? -
Apparently when I drive the car hard or just rev it at a stand still, it shoots black smke out.. The tailpipes do get quite sooted up.. What could this be?

I'm building my second lump which I'm going to turbo.. I was looking around the internet last night for rods and pistons and found an ebay ad from the U.S.. The price of these seems stupidly cheap compared to everything else I've seen but I believe its genuine enough... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Eagle-Rods-Wiseco-Pistons-Volkswagen-Golf-Jetta-GTI-VR6_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35a3480454QQitemZ230372672596QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories The lump is currently a 2.8 but I think I'll go for a 2.9 for the sake of getting a nice rebore.. What compression pistons are recommende

I went for the Vibra's all round
-
Hi When my car is on ignition, the fuel pump relay ticks, i've got 5 spares, all do the same.. When I run a seperate 12v from a blue/red wire which runs to plug G2 (forget which pin but possible fuel pump power) to Z1, the ticks goes and the pump runs.. Any ideas?
-
I already have a Vibra gearbox mount.. I want to replace my Turn2 front and rear mounts but I'm unsure which brand to go for, stick with Vibra or go for VF.. Vibra seem to be cheaper but are the VF's worth the extra.. Vibras website quite £70 for the rear and £125 for the front which seems pretty good! Need them ASAP, are they off the shelf bits or made to order? Cheers
