Hi all, I plan on rebuilding a spare VR6 head I've got to then fit to my car as I stupidly didn't do this when I did the bottom end etc.. It's a Corrado spec head, I plan to fully strip it, have it sandblasted and skimmed.. I'm going to replace the valve steam seals and clean up the valves and relap them in. My question is, while I'm doing this, is it worth buying uprated springs and followers or should I keep my standard bunch? Thanks

Hello, A mate of mine has just bought a £700 VR6! It's been around the world and smokes when he boots it so probably rings or valve stems but he has no interest to change these. He'd ideally like to keep it running as long as poss as he uses it as his work horse so he asked me what oil to use in it. What's best for a high miler smoke machine? A thicker weight but what and the smoke is blue... 10w50 I'd have thought but it might be a bit pricier than he'd want cheers

Hello mate, I ended up wiring it to an ignition live.. Couldn't figure out what was up!

Hi, In need of some help with my brake setup on my Golf.. I find the brakes pretty unresponsive but if i pull the handbrake up just a bit (not even one click) the brakes feel good and as i'd expect! Now, the problem is, the hand brake cables are brand new and are fully done up, they are VR6 ones. I'm not sure what else I can do.. I'll detail my setup 23mm MC Braided lines throughout Brembo 4 pots/305mm discs (vag pads) mk4 rear calipers with 280 drilled discs (vag pads) Wilwood bias valves (closed or open make no odds) ATE Superblue fluid No ABS, standard mk3 handbrake and cable clip I have s

Great, about time I got myself VAG COM! I've not tried that as yet but again, that was brand new. I let the car cool down and it appeared to behave fine but when it got to about 60 degrees (oil temp) it started acting up again! Will test cold and hot again tomorrow..

I'm sure this problem will relate to 2 others on this first page but I thought I'd post! I've noticed it do this before but its not happened enough to annoy me like today.. It seems that everytime i touch the throttle, be it soft or hard, the car will splutter and want to cut out, sometimes actually cutting out, I'll restart and when it eventually restarts it'll just not want to rev even with my foor down, it'll then get past the splutter and rev up! I'm not sure what could be causing this.. My air filter being all the way down by where the horns are, walbro pump, blah blahh... Everything is b

Wrap it, for what it costs and what it saves, it's worth it! My bay was getting stupidly hot, you could feel the heat next to the car and it was cooking EVERYTHING around it.. I just took it out and now it's lovely, can put my hand on the brace and my brake fluid isn't boiling itself out the bottle! Makes a nice noise, performance I dont know as I did alot in one go..

Just to let you know, I managed to wrap my 6branch yesterday and it came out perfectly!! Very happy, nice tight wrap and only used 3 clips so it is possible..

I get blue smoke on over run. The other day I noticed it when I was letting the car coast down a big hill while still in gear, I could see the smoke through the rear screen, a friends does the same.. I have an oil breather filter on the crank case, my car does use some oil but i did spot a leaky rocker cover gasket so this could be playing a part.. My car does run very rich and I can't work out why, lambda is brand new, so its the MAF, so is everything actually..

Touching my strut brace hurt enough! lol My wrap came through today, will try wrapping while it's in place on the weekend, if no success I'll remove it My shaved bay makes it all quite accessable, just depends if I can get the wrap/my arm between pipes and blokc! Cheers for advice

Ahh that'll be a mega pain in the arse! I think I have a load of metal ties from the crap stuff I bought before, I'll have a flick on ebay and search on here for DIY's now Cheers

Hi, I've got a 6 branch manifold on my car, it's been fine but after abit of town driving yesterday, I noticed my brake fluid to be right to the top of the bottle (I assume the heat from the manifold is boiling it) and my strut brace was far to hot to touch, all I have is the standard heatsheild.. Now, I didn't want to wrap it initially as I like seeing a bare manifold and the colour they go but something needs to be done really as I now know why my brakes go spongey! Whats the best wrap to go for? I got one before and I gave up with it as even when wet I couldn't do it! lol I wuold send it t

Hi, Hope someone can help, I currently have KW V2's and I find the rear far too soft, nice ride but it's very bouncy and I can push the car down by 2"s without too much effort (shocks are fine). I found out my current springs are rated at 50Nm.. It's been sugested i go for 10mm shorter springs and 75Nm... Any ideas on this? What have any of you got? Thanks

Not really an issue but I always remember my engine sitting perfectly on the OEM mounts, it was level with the slam panel if you got down on your knees in front of it.. With my VT mounts, the drivers side sits higher, they're all VT mounts and all brand new, this normal?

Hi, Is there a difference between the Golf VR6 and Corrado VR6 shift levers? What part wears out on these? My friends 52k Golf VR6 shifter actually feels great, it slots into place and feels tight, mine literally feels like a stick in a pot of crap and you can barely feel it go into gear.. Is it a spring/bush? cheers

ahh, I thought it was the other way round!

Hi, Prob question that's been covered over and over but can't find a simple thread on it.. From what I gather, I can change the final drive of my current 02a box for one from a diesel MK3 correct? In turn, I loose a bit of top end but gain on acceleration? Can someone just make things a bit clearer? I've got a diesel box so wondering if I can do the swap or should I just go and buy new bits, if so, what exactly? Cheers

The typical yellow wire at the back of the headunit which then joins the VW loom and is then brown/red.. For some reason this is now dead. I test continuity and i got it from radio - fusebox, fusebox - relay.. Had a spare new '36' relay so whacked that in but still, I get nothing from that wire, only a quick burst of about 6v when I first put the key in... Nothing has been fiddled with so I'm not sure where this has come from.. Any ideas?
