  1. The point of the recirculating dump valve is to prevent air from the impeller spiralling back down the intake onto the maf. An atmospheric dv wouldn't stop this happening. The return pipe from the dv points towards the impeller to prevent recirculated air and air from the impeller reaching the maf. The maf should be far enough away from the intake so recirculated air doesn't interfere with the maf's readings.
  2. I'd ring a supplier like stealth and get the price of the relevant parts.
  3. The blue samco 90 degree elbow (with the small pipe attached in your pics) is the throttlebody-maf pipe but the small hose has to be blocked off with something like a bolt and jubilee clip on obd2.
  4. The solenoid is a vw part, the controller in the centre of the manifold, a ford part and you could buy the vaccum hoses from somewhere like demon tweeks. You'd just have to buy the ecu controller and possibly the part which connects the throttle body to the manifold depending on if it's obd 1 or 2.
  5. Could be running too rich if the o2 is knackered. Cheapest maf is an exchange one from a bosch dealer £150+vat. Better than £350 from the dealer.
  6. chips can be copied if you can find someone with obd2. Think Reuben has obd2 z-charger, so he might be able to sort you out.
  7. You can buy a chip from ns racing, or directly from z-engineering.com or get a custom chip, tuned on a rolling road. Because your obd2 you can put the maf after the charger and it *should* run ok but I recommend putting it before the charger and running the dv as spirals of air from the chargyer will knacker your maf eventually and you'll run rich whilst idling.
  8. maybe you need a rechip to get the most out of the manny.
  9. isn't someone selling a schrick in the classifieds?
  10. think fairy liquid has salt in it which is corrosive.
  11. I paid £350 for headgasket, front discs/pads, rear pads, oil change, brake hoses, water pump at a vw specialist. What mileage are you on?
  12. didn't realise they had wear indicators. dash board brake light can be caused by a low brake fluid level or perhaps some issue with the handbrake. genuine discs are the best-superb quality steel.
  13. Nice wheels Olly K, are they rondell r58s? Was it a dealer or private sale and what did you pay? cheers
  14. The air filter is oiled to repel water and you'd have to drive through a lake to suck up enough water to hydrolock your engine. Detonation more likely by sucking in hot engine air. Anyway there's supposed to be a plastic splash tray installed under the front wing so the filter would be protected.
  15. Agreed. If your going to fit an induction kit, rip out the carbon canister, extend the pipework and position the filter under the wing where there's a chance of some cold air.
  16. I think it's quite normal for vr6's to pop. Well mine does anyway.
  17. doesn't the upper plastic guide fail too? Can this part be changed without removing the gearbox etc.?
  18. You can flush it through with a hose. Halfords sell de-ionised water. They call it "battery top up water".
  19. yes there's a drain plug. Look below the inlet manifold on the front of the engine block and you should see a long black plastic coolant pipe. It has a drain plug about half-way down which is accessible from underneath. Unscrew it using a coin or screwdriver. Undo the bottom rad hose too.
  20. I don't understand how the updated VF-Eng design would work as surely the dv return line would be closer to the maf ie. blowing recirculated air on the maf causing a rich condition off throttle?
  21. No. It seems that if you run without a recirculating dump valve you will stall. This is because the supercharger impeller creates some air turbulence which spirals down onto the maf causing a rich condition and stalling. The recirculated boost prevents air from the impeller spiralling onto the maf as its travelling in the opposite direction. That's why the return line from the dv points in the direction of the impeller. However the maf has to be quite far away from the dv return so that doesn't interfere with the maf readings. You can run with no dv but the maf has to be far enough from the im
