  1. Righty-hoo, my automatic gearbox is dyin slowly. Ive been quoted about £900 for a re-conditioned one. My response to the friendly technician was....(use your imagination!). Designer dubs can do a manual 5 speed manual conversion for £1500 with limited slip diff, so that where im going. After the conversion, i proabably want to get a really good chip and air induction kit installed. After that, i want to have some big power increases for the odd occasion, but having trouble deciding whether to go for NOS or not. To be quiet honest, im not spending money or s/charging or turbo charging simply b

If i had plenty off cash lying around, i still wouldnt get rid of the VR. Its always been a dream of mine to have a mk3 vr boasting 350bhp+. What is sooo amazing about these cars is, that even in the present time the car has strongly held onto its reputation (standard or modified), which many hot hatches have failed to do so. Id probably get a 4 wheel drive conversion done along with some very very serious engine upgrades.
  4. yeah i was interested in getting some reviews for the vr6's, but couldnt source any. I did come across one source that stated, "The VR6 is the probably the best 170bhp you can get from a car". I think a lot of peeps will agree on that one! Out off all the 170bhp cars, VR6 does come out top. For example Ford Focus ST170, BMW 325i, Peugeot 206/306 gti, Honda Type S, Renault Clio sport. (obviously this has been proved by some of us on straight stretches!). Theres even a few sources nowa days, that still compare new hot hatches cars to vr6. 5. i.e the chip and manifold work in harmony with each other.
  6. We are all here to actually help each other. If you have nothing better to say, then i suggest you keep it you yourself. (tit) kind regards!
  7. my passenger side front seat doesnt heat. I checked the connection underneath the seat and the wire has been ripped off!!! The driver side heated leathers work fine. I need the actuall connector/wire that connectes to the seat in the passenger side. Any can help.
  8. yeah, i aint gona bother pissing about. Im gona take it straight to an auto trans. specialist. IF you get the parts i.e. ATF fluid and flilter, they shouldnt really charge more than £100 while you wait. I know it sounds expensive, but theres always more work involved in renewing the fluig on an auto than a manual, hence mechanics charge more. [ Edited Mon Mar 15 2004, 08:36PM ]
  9. the best thing is that yur windows acutally work, so its not the motor or anything expensive thats knackered. Its just the fuse for the window keeps blowing.
  10. best thing to do is, go in yellow pages, find out a mobile auto electrician in your area, TELL HIM WHAT CAR YOU HAVE, and let him come down and sort it out. Trust me its nothing more some bad wiring i.e. bad grounding. Ive actually taken apart the door panels on both sides, trust me, i didnt get no where, i found the wiring a pain to work on.
  11. I have been having the same piss take problem in my 1996 golf vr6 highliner. I dont have an alarm, but the windows wind down if the key is turned in the lock for more than 2 seconds. The fuse blows as soon as the ignition is cranked. Its bloody annoying!! I can operate the windows from using the key hole but not from the switches. In my car, its a 10am fuse which runs the a/c, heated leathers, electric mirrors and electric windows. How stupid?? Normally, i get my hand and rumage throught the wires behind the fuse box or move the wires around near the door hinges. This sorts out the problem for
  12. basically i need a DIY guide on doing it. I quiet ok with filling and smoothing, but could do with the step by step procedures. cheers
  13. hey mista Vento VR6, whats the clifford concept 500 like then? Im planning on getting one.
  14. Hiya, just wondering if any has has had the door moulds taken off, and smoothed out the doors???, my door moulds refuse to stay put, Its soo anoying!!. Has any one managed this by themselves, Let me know! Thanks
  15. £4500 for the car with S/H. the only part ive changed is a Spark plug lead for cylinder 3 and a new radiator cap. £30! apart from that, every thing is friggin standard.
  16. Yep i have an auto aswell, been getting the same problem as you mate. If you look under the car, behind the radiator, you will notice a red dipstick towards the right hand side. This is the dipstick for the ATF. Unfortunatley, i have no clue what so ever how to take it out, but it does come out. There's also a Filter for the ATF within the tranmission. Both fluid and the filter needs to be changed at the same time. This is the first task to carry out and hopefully your gear slippage problems will go away. If they dont, then it just gets a bit too technical for me! Try your local "automatic tra
  17. actually i didnt labour the engine this time. I kept the revs around 3000ish rpm. Nothing too low and nothing too high. I managed to get 20.6 mpg from a tenner, which works out about 60 miles.
  18. arrrghhh!!! what the f**k is up with my car then??? Nearly everyone seems to be getting in excess of 20mpg. Life was soooo good when my neighbour used to work for renault. He used to bring home the fuel card everyday and let me fill up the tank for a tenner. Now hes buggered back off to manchester. please come back mate. i miss you. [ Edited Fri Feb 06 2004, 04:43PM ]
  19. F**k me (not literally!), that is bad news. do the vr's require one or two ecoteks'
  20. funny you should say that simey, its actually true mate, ive noticed if i keep the revs up, then fuel doesnt go as quick as it normally does. I always thought keeping the revs low increases fuel consumption.
  21. yeah a mate of mine did mention that to me, but i thought autos always drove in the most economical gears.
  22. man my car sucks on petrol. I have never seen more than 24 MPG. I dont know if autos suck more petrol but mine seems to swallow 20 quids worth of fuel quick time. I usually get around 15-19MPG, and if i drive like a granny, i might be lucky and get 24MPG. For example i could go from Heathrow to camberley andb back and just that will swallow approx £10 worth of petrol. I was thinking of getting a ecotek valve, as i had on my previous motor and worked excellent. [ Edited Thu Feb 05 2004, 11:17AM ] [ Edited Thu Feb 05 2004, 11:18AM ]
  23. P6 VRR....i could imagine that on a VR. looks kinda keeeewl!
  24. The best one i came across was V6 GLF, that was going for under 5000 grand, but you cant get that if yur car aint newer than the V plates.
