mk4 gti vs VR6

my mate with his slightly worked mk4 gti wants to have a go , but im not sure i can take him, anyone given these ones a hiding..... his making +/- 190bhp and im kinda stock running on 17's

Hummm not sure top end ur catch it and ur be quicker to 40 mph i reckon but mapped 20v have a punch between 40-120

if its turbo gti he will beat you but what have you got to loose it may encourage you to modify more £££ did you get a BMC in the end as i might have 1 going soon

i raced a a3 1.8t, hed stripped out, str8 thru exhaust and map to 190bhp and i ws doing him in my standard vr(apart from no back seats) it wsnt until he got new silicone turbo piping and FMIC that he did me purely cos his old pipes were so flimsy they were folding in on themselves from the pressure.

MK4 's are too heavy. 1.8t's with a remap usually sit with VR6's.

That said because 2 x 1.8T mk4's have gone against me and NEVER got past but neither have been left by me either.....both remapped too.

i used to have a 1.8t remapped and i raced my mate in his pretty standard VR....due to his torque he had me off every roundabout but as soon as my turbo kicked in i just got past on the straights

you can remap a 1.8T to 260bhp

That would require difrent turbo, injectors, etc. Unless you are talking about a 1.8t which is in an audi s3/ TT

normal 20v with a ko3s stage two is around the 230bhp and 260 lbft of tourque i think

mines 205bhp and 266ft lb but it is a good one as 20vs go plus my ibiza is alot smaller and lighter then a mk4

stage one is usually around 190 depending if you have a k03 or a k03s

Heres an interesting question. I know that the mk4 peak torque very early in the rev range and generally tail off as you wind up the revs on a standard car? Would this also be the case in a remapped MK4? I would still lean towards the VR6 because they make awesome power at the top end of the rev range plus they are lighter I think.

the mk4 gti and vr6 are closley contested, will update tomorrow with the results, as my vr is stock, with exhaust and K&N filter.

yeah i know,my 1.8T quattro had 190 from the factory,with a remap it could achieve 260 as it had the ko3s turbo

so an update, apprently he has issues with his car, boost leak, so in all fairness i didn't want to give him hiding and he comes back saying he was not 100%,

im also getting myself some 98 race fuel or some octane booster
