  1. As far as I can tell OBD2 cars don't have them' date=' the ABS module itself does the proportioning. Never had a problem in the past, as I said, I've had quite a few cars now that have had the ABS removed completely. Although, you've reminded me that I may have read something about this coming into to force at some point. EDIT - Further investigation suggests that this WILL fail the MOT. From what I can gather all VR6's came from the factory with ABS fitted, so it MUST be present for the MOT. If it had been a case where ABS was just an option, removing it would be fine. Looks like I'm goi
  2. Some handy info there, thanks! I also found this thread which has some useful stuff in it too [link]http://forums.kilometermagazine.com/showthread.php?4896586-MK3-GTI-Anti-Lock-Brake-delete-%28converting-to-non-abs-master%29.
  3. Oh yes, I'd check with the insurance company before doing it The ABS light won't be a problem as I have an "airbag only" one that was in the car when I bought it. I'm interested to see if it's more cost effective to bin the ABS system, or repair it to be honest.
  4. Has anyone removed the ABS system from their MK3? As some of you may know, mine is faulty and giving me different error codes each time I read them. I was thinking today, that as it's faulty anyway and every car I've had until now has either not had ABS to begin with or had it removed by previous owners, I may as well see about getting rid of it for good. So, anyone done it? If so, how?
  5. I think the price of these has gone up a bit, I just got one from Ford and it was ~ £45 inc VAT. Saying that, the OP is 4 years old, so the price is bound to have changed lol.
  6. Yeah I had that problem too. I left my one LED in the door as I didn't want to go drilling holes in my dash again..... Well, that and the fact that I didn't want to have put extra pins and wires into the door harness for nothing lol.
  7. My VR didn't have a switched live to the stereo (I've read that this fairly common, there's someone else on here that didn't have one either). To get round this I ran a switched live from the heater controls (although as you've got climatronic I wouldn't know which one to tap into). Try running a live to the red AND yellow wire on the stereo and see if it'll switch on. Obviously, you'll need the earth connected too
  8. After sorting out the dodgy wiring for the sensors, I was left with the "signal out of specification" error (Or something like that anyway). After some advice on here, I unplugged the controller for about 30 minutes to see if it would clear and it did! Now I'm getting the following: VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N Control Module Part Number: 3A0 907 379 E Component and/or Version: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00 Software Coding: 03704 Work Shop Code: WSC 00000 1 Fault Found: 01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded 35-00 - - Now, remember that I've not swapped uni
  9. Ha, great minds indeed! I'll get some pics up tomorrow, the bumper isn't on the car at the moment as the splitter needs a little tidying up, but once it's back on I'll post it up for all to see!
  10. So, I decided that today I'd finish tidying up the interior. When I got the car, most of the switch blanks had holes drilled in them (I'm assuming the holes were for LEDs at some point). Last week I managed to replace all the damaged ones, but this left me without a place to put the LED for the alarm/immobiliser (all the blanks had at least two holes drilled in them). So today I did this: That's a MK3 door pin surround with the LED guts from a MK4 door pin surround fitted into it I had intended to just swap the surrounds over but the MK4 one isn't as big as the MK3 one so wouldn't cover
  11. Crack pipe cracked maybe?
  12. Mines a 97 and is a 2.8. If I remember correctly, the 2.9's went in Corrados?
  13. From the outside that looks quite nice! The interior is hanging though.
  14. Thanks! Hopefully this weather will clear soon so I can actually make some progress!
  15. Ah I see! Nice idea, I'll give that a go
  16. I'm not sure really. I can't see anything else that points towards it having A/C from the factory. Thinking about it, my car has a sunroof, did sunroof cars also have A/C? I'm thinking that someone has started to install it and given up, mainly because of the way it's fitted (woodscrews) and also, the fittings on each side don't look like pics I've seen of genuine VW fittings. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to do anything with the car today due to the weather, but all being well, tomorrow it's getting taken apart and anything that's not connected/required/supposed to be there is being
  17. Excellent, thanks for your help mate. I'll investigate the fluid tomorrow when I've got the front end off I think.
  18. Cool thanks! Ok, mine doesn't have an AC compressor. I'm just waiting on a few pics to upload (they're not great, it's a little dark for my cameraphone). I did just notice something though - if you look straight down between the middle two runners on the inlet manifold, you can see a metal thing with what looks like two plugs on the top of it? (In your pic it's directly below the front middle cylinder). Well, that has some green liquid which has obviously leaked on to it. I'm not sure what the liquid is, I know it's not coolant (wrong colour) and I seem to recall that PAS fluid is red. A
  19. Well, there's a couple of different plugs, I'll get some pics of them tomorrow. I haven't noticed a compressor, but then again I've not been looking for one lol. There is one thing though, I noticed this in the engine bay after I got the car: I searched for the company and they seem to make aircon testing equipment/stuff. However, the wire that comes from this thing goes to a plug on the passenger side of the radiator, about half way up. I'm 99% sure it's got nothing to do with lighting. The wiring in the engine bay is genuinely the most confusing thing I've ever seen, but I'm going to st
  20. If you've got one that would be great Thinking about it, you could be right, I've noticed there are 3 or 4 cable unplugged around that area, but that doesn't surprise me too much given the state of the wiring (which is a whole new nightmare entirely).
  21. Hi all, Would someone mind taking a pic of the front of their radiator? I discovered something on mine today which I'm pretty sure isn't supposed to be there! I don't have a pic to hand, but basically, my rad has what appears to be another, slightly smaller radiator bolted to the front of it. It has a small inlet and outlet (one at the top, passenger side, one at the bottom driver side). The passenger side one is a screw in type fitment, the driver side one is cut and crimped shut. I'm wondering if this is an aircon condensor or something? My car doesn't have aircon (well, there's no but
  22. Hmm, interesting! Mine doesn't have anything where the switched live would normally be, and some googling has suggested this is normal. Having said that, I've discovered that this car is a bit of an electrical nightmare, which I'm slowly trying to sort out. It might just be that a previous owner has removed the switched live for some reason. Probably the same reason they decided to cut all the wires on the MAF (which I also fixed permanently today). Tomorrow I'm going to try and make sense of the wiring under the bonnet, there's about 20 different wires around the headlight area (aftermark
  23. Yeah, normally I would've done that, but in this case it doesn't work because there was no switched live on the car side of the loom.
