  1. Difficulty Level: Easy Tools needed: Flatblade screwdriver or similar for use as a lever, phillips screwdriver, wire cutters/strippers, soldering iron, solder, heatshrink tubing. (You could also use insulated crimp connectors, you'd need yellow and blue ones). Time required: 10-20 minutes depending on how familiar you are with removing the heater controls. Remember, disconnect the battery before attempting anything with the electrics! Thought I'd post this up as I've not seen it mentioned on here yet and I know it's something that irritated me! It seems that if you fit an aftermarket headun
  2. Amazing car! Hopefully mine will be up to this standard one day! One question though, how do you secure the false floor? I'm in the process of doing mine and can't work out the best way to do it.
  3. Not sure if any of these will be useful? https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B_V9-6xfgGlINzhhM2IyNmItOWRhZS00MzBkLTk2MTEtNGIyZDFmMDg0NWM2/edit (I've found that just clicking on them doesn't display them properly, if you press the "print" button it switches views and shows them properly)

    No speedo?

Ah, in that case, double check the plug. As I said, I was certain mine was in fully, then I pressed it a little more and snapped into place fixing the problem.

    No speedo?

I had this a couple of days ago. Have you taken the clocks out at all? If you have, make sure the plug is DEFINITELY plugged back in fully (it should make an audible "snap" type noise when its in). I thought mine was plugged in properly, but it turned out it wasn't and I had no speedo and a very lively fuel gauge! EDIT - Sorry, just noticed this is in a MK2!
  6. One question, I've seen a couple of pics where people appear to have left the PCV on, then run a pipe to the catch can. I thought the idea was to remove the PCV valve altogether? For example this looks like the valve is still in place, with a length of hose running from it to the can?:
  7. Handy tips guys, thanks very much, I'll go pull the multi-plug out now. The sensor plugs will have to wait until it's not pouring with rain lol.
  8. Well, I cleared the faults down, which only left three (there are only two shown below, I forgot to copy the codes before I fixed and cleared them again): Control Module Part Number: 3A0 907 379 E Component and/or Version: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00 Software Coding: 03704 Work Shop Code: WSC 00000 2 Faults Found: 00285 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Front Right (G45) 35-00 - - 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-00 - Signal Outside Specifications So, I took the front wheels off to have a look at the sensors. I wasn't surprised to find that Stevie Wonder had
  9. Typical! I get the clips out, take the scuttle covers off and.........cannot get the car to make the noise. I've tried EVERYTHING, it WILL NOT make the noise now lol.
  10. As above, I'd be interested to see pics of how these are plumbed in
  11. Excellent, thanks guys, I'll give this a go tomorrow!
  12. So, today I acquired VAGCOM and did a scan. I'm pleased to discover the car was nice and healthy apart from the following: Address 03 ------------------------------------------------------- Controller: 3A0 907 379 E Component: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00 Coding: 03704 Shop #: WSC 00000 9 Faults Found: 00283 - Front Left ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G47) 35-00 - - 00285 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Front Right (G45) 35-00 - - 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-00 - Signal Outside Specifications 00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Left (G46)
  13. Well..........it's not that I've noticed though, that it will stop if I do any of the following (note, the ignition is off, so although I've said "on", the screen and fans etc aren't actually switched on, they're just in that position): Switch the heated screen on. OR Turn the interior fan on OR Turn the wipers to either the first or second continuous setting. OR Pull the wiper stalk, as if I was using the wash/wipe function. If for instance the heated screen is on, but everything else is off, the noise can't be heard, but as soon as I turn the heated screen
  14. Just checked, that one is the same as the one that's in there (well, the socket is the same) so won't fit mine. Ash, it's over to you
  15. Awesome thanks From memory that looks like the type of plug I have, but I'll confirm tomorrow and send you a PM (I'm not with the car this evening).
  16. Handy info there, thanks guys! I think I'll invest in a fault reader when I get paid, is there any particular one I should go for or avoid? Rsweeney, would you mind taking a pic of the back of the panel so I can see if my plug will fit?
  17. I noticed the other day that my car has had the ABS light removed - it appears that one of the previous owners has replaced the warning light panel with a non ABS one. The current panel only has the airbag light on it. Not only that, but because the plugs are different, it's not even plugged in! Am I correct in thinking that the airbag light must light up for the MOT? I'm slightly worried about why they'd remove the ABS light in the first place, instead of just fixing the problem (if there even is a problem, tbh I've not actually tried a braking test yet). On a side note, if anyone is break
  18. Loving this! Some amazing work going here. Out of interest, why did you decide to paint the bay a different colour to the rest of the car?
  19. That's a good shout, I'll have a look at that over the weekend, thanks dude!
  20. Noticed this today, anyone have any ideas? I got home and switched off. After a couple of seconds there was a really loud noise coming from the engine bay somewhere. The only way I can describe it, is that it sounds like the windscreen washer pump but REALLY loud. I couldn't work out where it was coming from, and sat back in the car. I just happened to nudge the wiper stalk up a notch and it stopped! I pulled it back down and it started again. The noise seems to start if the stalk is left in the bottom two positions. If it's in any other position it will stop and it will also stop if I
  21. Does anyone know if the doors and front wings on a cabriolet are different to the one on the 3 door hatchback? I need a new drivers door and wing for my car (couple of little rust patches), but the only Golfs I can find breaking in my area are either 5 doors or cabbies. EDIT - Thinking about it, I'm guessing the cabbies have pillarless doors, so they won't fit. What about the wings though?
  22. Good luck! I got my first VR6 the other day, they're bloody brilliant!
  23. Not yet, annoyingly my multi meter has gone walkies. I'll pop out at the weekend and get a new one I think.
