  2. oil and water dont have to mix to be headgasket issues the fact that the coolant is pressurising does sound like an issue However............... water pump could have gone, so I'd suggest whipping it off to check all the impellor blades are on before doing anything more
  3. could be the aux belt tensioner? Try taking some tension off it, see if it differs

  6. Guys, I was coming down a long, steep hill after a good run over the moors. I was in 3rd with no acceleration, just rolling behind another car (didnt wanna get brakedust all over my freshly cleaned rims) and when the other car pulled off I got on the gas........... it spluttered a tad and let off a plume of smoke. WTF??
  7. what if the noise only comes randomly, say 3-4k? When not underload just revving from standstill. Sounds like noise is from middle of head somewhere? And underload when driving is constand, liike a knock/rattle/miss kind of noise.

  9. My VW alarm (well, has a VW fob anyways) keeps self arming after 30 seconds. Doesnt lock the doors, just arms. Not good when I am filling up and the missus is in the car, grrrrr Any ways of getting rid of this feature??
  10. If you are losing compression then it's time for either new piston rings or maybe you have a valve that is ever so slightly bent either way.......... it's not going to be cheap, as its engine overhaul time
  11. Pretty sure you can remove it, but you may need a bracketr from a non-aircon car/alt set up and that belt??
  12. So, managed to get it lowered and chuck my VR6 splitter on Thinking of swapping the solitude for some standard VR BBS's that were on my old one though. Not sure?

  14. Guys, my VR has developed a little knock under load. It may be doing it all the time, but I can only hear it under load whilst driving. Basically, it sounds like either piston slap, or the shells have gone. Obviously, I need to whip the sump off and check them. Can they be done in situ, or is it time to take the engine out? Also, are they a VW only part? Do they make oversize ones too?? HALP

  16. cold start switch could be stuck, so overfuelling when its already warm? My old RS used to do this. Quite sure its the blue switch/sensor on the front right of the block?
  17. You need a new water pump. Only took me 2hours my first time round. Do it before it locks up and breaks your belt too. Easy enough. hard part was getting the engine up high enough to wiggle it out without the lamba probe bending on the bodywork
  18. OK, so this was my old motor. Loved it, but it was getting a little rough around the edges, and the missus hated it. So, sold it on with the intent of purchasing a nice 4 door family car. That went out the window when a cheeky little saxo VTS came up for sale......... what a mistake that was. Had nothing but problems.   19. fueling its arse off could be faulty plugs. Try new plugs and leads first, and get it on VAG com
  20. Cabrioman, I put the metal finned one in. The original one had all fins present, but the bearings had failed. Spoonman, had to use my brick to drive up onto, to get the jack underneath, lolol I have faith in my handywork, lol
