  1. I'd get a jetwash behind the lip, blast all the muck out from under there. also check behind the filler cap, as mine was full of damp dirt which had started eating away at the filler pipe too. once you've got it clean, give it a good spray with waxoil or something similar
  2. PMSL!!!! exactly, i've just spent an absolute wedge gettin loads of mechanical bits sorted. literally the interior is still in stunning original condition (mint wooden gearknob, original mulberry floormats etc), the rust is the only down side, and it can be sorted. so im not giving up just yet LMAO!
  3. smothered in syrup .. a workmates suggestion lol
  4. Well if everyone had that attitude towards their dubs, we'd have very few show cars older than mk3s! At the end of the day i know my money is being thrown away on the car when it comes to bodywork, but i love driving my VR. Dont see many highlines around in my area so it makes it that bit more special to drive round in it. So its more sentimental reasons i want it looking nice again, so i dont mind spending a fair bit on sorting her out, once I have the cash!!!
  5. LOL. same attitude as me dude, as soon as i get in and drive, i love it. i'm just keepin my cool for now, should be getting commission at work soon, that'll help loads. if you manage to find any place able to sort it, let me know fella, and i'll prob see you at tatton lol
  6. Im in the same boat dude. trying to just ingore it as im too skint to get it repaired and it looks gash. would like to know about work on the rear quarters etc as i understand the arches are structurally important and can't just be cut out...
  7. top pics once again dude. nice to put a face to your name!!
  8. reps will look fine mate. but if you dont want em, how much would you take for em??? LOL
  9. yep perfectly normal, the buzzing is your secondary waterpump, (top right back of the engine), and the fans are also likely to run after taking the key out, just keeping everything cool as possible..
  10. looks nice mate!! pain in the but for rusting aren't they lol need to get mine sorted asap really. as mentioned it would look good if dropped slightly more at the front to kill that arch gap.
  11. I have heard they can stretch somewhat over time. most of the time the chains are replaced "just in case" if they are not so slack that they rattle when running, then just changing the tensioners/ guides should be fine. especially as ur on a budget!
  12. Just wondering how much of a difference to exhaust note i would see by replacing the first box with a straight pipe from my local exhaust centre. i quite like the idea of having a bit more volume from it you see. anyone got videos of the two and three box on a vr?? mines a three box system just for the record!!
  13. Stockport / Hyde area mate. no worries

    Ebay Chip

My uncle had one of these 30 quid chips on his Merc Vito works van (deisel) and absolutely swears by them. but he has always remained dubious of them for petrol engines... I wouldn't waste my money to find out though lol
  15. hey up mate! where bouts in manchester u from? not seen you around so far lol. just give it a good service, oil, filters, plugs possibly coolant etc. chains only really need looking at once they get noisy. just had mine done a few weeks ago at 90,000 as they were starting to rattle a little. otherwise leave em as they are....
  16. looking good matey, like the front end, looks loads better. had any luck with the exhaust straightening yet?? lol
  17. Well I thought about getting some high temp engine paint, but had some ultra cheapo satin black paint from halfrauds lying about, and a weekend free lol so nothing special. Just lightly wet sanded the plastics to give it a bit of surface to bond to, and a good 4-5 thin coats of paint. thats it. been fine so far.. although only time will tell if i will need to re-do them with high temp paint......
  18. the chap at my local exhaust place just faffed around whilst all the connections were loose. so the whole system was mounted but nothing tightened. once it looked right he nipped up the first clamp to hold it there. just a bit of trial and error really matey. nice vr mate
  19. do they fit ok?? i've heard some can be rubbish depending on where u go......
  20. that new?? not bad at all fella
  21. lol tell me about it! i sat looking at it for ages thinking, its so bloody awkward. most cars you can just take off a little cover and the stat drops out. this ones that tight that u either have to have the transmission off, or remove the whole housing just to get at the bolts!! might be worth getting a new housing & o-rings etc as they are prone to just pi$$ing water out once you start to play around with em. just so you know lol
  22. yeh will do. he drives a yaris t sport.. lol
