  1. Haha!!! Excellent!!!! I got to take 2!!!
  2. Is it Partial VW service of independant garage history? How much history? Rust? Leather? condition of interior? I paid £3200 for my 98 Highline, Black, good condition on the exterior, and leather was very good, it had 104,000 miles on it with partial history, mostly VW up to about 2 years ago. Your price sounds about right, have you looked at autotrader to see what they are going for? Alot of VR's are stated as good condition or very good condition but are in actual fact pieces of crap, damp, damaged, rusty, where the previous owners just wanted a fast car but couldnt afford to keep it up to
  3. Hmmmmmm....... Thats a long way. Anyone going from the South East area? It'll take me about hour and 3/4 to get there and £40 on petrol!!!
  4. So how many of us are actually going now? Ive looked at the first page but just wanted to know if that was the final list. Im not sure if I should take my bike and get one of my mates to drive my 'Beloved'.... Anyone been round it on two wheels before?
  5. Phat, If you had a corse with a backbox on it Im sure someone would have put you out of your misery by now!!! You dont need to thrash the bits and pieces off of a VR, that is the beauty of them, the torque!! They just pull, and pull, and pull and...... I use mine for a 50 mile round trip to and from work plus weekend and evenings, with a mixture of motorway and smaller roads (when I want a bit of fun) and my average is around 24-27 and alot of the time although I do use the Torque there are also times when you forget to change gear until it sees red, ooops.... Just get the car, insure it, dr
  6. Sometimes needs must though people. Shame but live and learn I say

my last vr was on 175,000 and still going very strong, my present one has only 105500
  9. thats the one, sorry for the delay, holiday.
  10. Im just getting rid of my thumb print!! Feels like a new lease of life!!
  11. I can't remember the name to be honest with you, wouldnt be a problem to go and get it though. It was on Ipswich Road, right at the beginning, I got camber and alignment done for the grand total of around £65 if I remeber properly, they have a screen in reception showing you the setup too so you can see that it is being done to your liking. Customer service was very good too. Not many places in our area that can do it properly as they dont have the tools. Tell a lie, it was Protyre http://www.thelocalweb.net/index/CAC/tlw_594422.htm Definately recommend them
  12. yeah, I got mine done down in slough trading estate, very sensible prices too, no crap about not being able to do it just got on with it and all was good. Let me know if you are interested.
  13. think the 2.9 is a ABV engine code, 2.8 is definately AAA
  14. Head bolts are definately 12's, just taken them out myself, you need a long readh peice as one or two of the bolts are quite tight getting down to if you knwo what I mean.
  15. I'll have one definately, be good to distinguish us as a club
  16. Excellent advice, thanks. I am going for a NA engine, prefer them to FI, I find them a bit more reliable on a daily basis if you know what I mean. I have heard that the 3.0l makes the walls too thin but then like you have said others have gone on forever. Oh the problems of life eh? My goal is to get a couple of cams, MAYBE a shrick, not sure yet, definately an exhaust and go from there really. Thanks for the advice again though, really helpful.
  17. Ok, update people. I have my eyes on a rebore to an 83mm piston for the 2.9 block, does anyone know if this will cause me issues, it'll take the block to a 2975cc or something along those lines apparently. I am looking at getting some wosser pistons, or JE just not 100% which ones yet as not entirely sure of the difference. Also, do I HAVE to replace the rods at the same time as the pistons, do the new pistons come with rods or on their own, sorry for the silly questions but dont want to get this wrong as 1) It is a lot of money and 2) more importantly it will take my VR off the road if it all
  18. Hi, I have a 2.8 highline but recently purchased the 2.9 raddo engine, can it be a simple transplant and remap of the ecu or do I need a raddo ecu? I know this has probably been asked before but I couldnt find it after doing a search on the forums, but can you rebore the 2.9 Corrado engine to a 3.1, i know people have rebored to 3.0. I was wondering if it made the walls too thin or if it lowered the working life of the engine after it has been done. Also if anyone has done a rebore to a larger size, where did you get your pistons from? Not really bothered about forged pistons, although to be h

Excellent job, Adam was there on time, job was done faultlessly, very quick clean and extremely polite worker, supply him with coffee(white, 2 sugars) and he is a happy man, oh and he likes working in the sun. Definately recommend, he is cheap too.
  21. The only reason that us lot are getting high maintenance bills now is that previous owners havent done anyting to them. They drive them to death then sell them on, someone else buys them thinking they can fix them up, fix a couple of things and sell them on again. Once you have got them up to standard they are cheap AND easy to work on. The Golfs are well beyond anything else on the market at their age, VW's always have been, build quality and the kind of people they attract, Jap pocket rockets attract the kind of people that rag the cars to death and dont up keep them, they just sell them on.
  22. I had exactly the same thing when taking mine into VW themselves. I couldnt figure it out as they hadnt touched the leads or plugs at all. Swapped the coil pack from my other VR and seemed to help a little, what helped the most though was purchasing a shiny new Camshaft sensor.
  23. The AA truck is for the other cars I take it
