  1. Good to know! I have a GT3071R on its way with all its trimmings. I am also looking at the C2 software, heard a lot of good reports about it.
  2. yes will do, just got to get a few more bits next month, i have just pilliaged the bank account!!
  3. Well i have took the plunge! Just ordered a load of bits Should make the mk2 a bit quicker....
  4. Thanks for imput, it all helps! I think im swaying towards Gt30 size from what i have been reading on here. seems about right for the power i want. Ha! i'm almost bored of looking, just need to find one at a good price then splash the cash!!
  5. It appears to drive fine mate, although i have not give it any beans yet as its only just back on the road so gently running it in. i was also curious about this when i done mine! I'm curious to see how it goes if i was to plant it to the red line though....suppose it would just feel a little flat??
  6. I see where you are coming from and have looked at this option but for that kind of power i worked it out to be more costly in the long run. A correctly matched turbo can give a good smooth power delivery, (a mates s2 was awesome, fast but driveable) i still want some rush when it kicks in, just dont want it like to be like an 80's turbo set up! Plus, i just love the way a turbo'ed vr sounds!
  7. i'm after alittle help with selection really. i have read the specs of different turbos on different sites and im not sure if im any the wiser really! i'm after around 300-350ish hp, for an OBD2 3ltr low comp, fast road car that gets used as a weekend toy so not a daily, just want a smooth progressive surge (if thats possible!) not nothing, nothing, nothing BANG! top end. i appreciate other factors such as management, and other bits of kit will effect it. dont want to spend a load of ££ on the wrong thing! Any recommendations for a turbo spec for the above?
  8. so as there are a lot of you guys experimenting with turbo's, has anyone discovered the best place place to buy from, ebay, america, any particular companies, etc...its time to part with the cash..
  9. say you were going from 4th to 3rd approaching a bend for instance, when you pull the paddle its the equivalent of reving the engine to match the revs on the shift with your right foot, only on this it does it for you. it really is just like the playstation! To be honest im not a big ferrari fan (it did sound good at 8K though!) but it was a good experience. i think this is the last one i'll do as i've done a few now and i just thinkits far better value for money taking your own car on a track.
  10. just back from a track day the missus bought me for xmas at bruntingthorpe. drove an mitisi Evo then went out in a Ferrari 355 with paddle shift. I want that for the VR!!! Cant understand why they always get slated, it changed up and down instanly as and when i wanted it. Only downside to the day is the instructor never put the flash card in the camera so my drive time wasnt recoded. Boo!!
  11. As turbo tuning the VR is getting more popular recently though it might be useful to post this up, i stumbled accross it when doing some research for my project: Turbos for dummies have a read through the tech guides....

has he inanvertanly knocked or unplugged an abs sensor? that would turn the light on too
  13. Agree with the above.. my vr wasn't rattling but when i did the rebuild i found that the tensioner had worn down and the metal rivets holding the wear surface were in the oil pickup pipe and the guie rail had snapped. i have also recently stripped a friends rado vr and that had the same problems. have a phone around to find a good specialist, at the end of the day 1, you know the engine is good for another 100k or so, and 2, i would drive a couple of hundred miles to get it done knowing that im saving 1500 quid instead of going to vw.
  14. cheers mate, thats the info i needed! i thought one fwas ok, just needed to check.
  15. i want to fit some slim line fans to my vr to make a bit more room in the engine bay.. i have got a corrado radiator fitted in the mk2 slam panel, just wondering if anyone knows whats best to fit - 2 fan setup or one large one? or if it makes much difference? also what size fans? cheers...
  16. Theres a chap on the mk2vr6 owners forum (also advrtises on ebay) who makes solid mounts for various cars and their respective engine conversions, got a solid front mount for my mk2vr, nice bit of kit for about 40 quid. i dont think it made any difference regarding noise and vibration, mines a stripped mk2 so its got plenty of squeeks and rattles anyway. hope this helps....
  17. never had a vr auto mapped before, but from reading Dave Walkers articles in Practical Performance Car it appears to be a bit more difficult as its hard to hold an auto box on peak load. its not impossible though as he mapped that SD1 with a 27ltr engine going through an auto box...
  18. welcome to the forum mate, theres a huuge guide at the top of the page, have a look in there.
  19. yes mate, wont take you very long..
  20. Nothing you cant fix with a big hammer and some heat!!!
  21. Good advise, mine was hitting 125 degrees as i was approaching Tiergarten, need to get a cooler for next time!
  22. oh i see...how frustrating! wonder why that is?
  23. Have you spoke to C2? Wonder what they would recommend?
  24. Cheers Kev. there's so many variations of turbo's it gets confusing! just got mine running after its rebuild so the next step is what turbo to go for...
