  1. All these cars are where i want to be with mine. Mines standard, so i wont bother. but i am getting it polished at the weekend, so it may be worthy then! Really like the rims on highline jonno's ride.
  2. Trickle charge the battery for 3-6 hrs. This should get enough charge in the battery. Put some load on the battery, ie stereo heaters lights etc. If the battery then dies after normal use, your battery is bollocksed. If you've got a multimeter you could check it properly. The alarm could have something to do with the indicators, because the battery is bollocksed.
  3. You wont know what it is until it's stripped down. Check your tensioner first obviously as it's the easy option. If not drop the oil and sump and see if you got any damage or remains in the sump. Really not cheap to do bottom end work unless you do it yourself, maybe wise to price up a second hand lump. hope this helps.
  4. It may do damage to the entire srs system though, such as the passenger airbag, and the seatbelt pre-tensioners. I'm sure if there is a fault code on the airbag ecu, it wont ignite any of these items.
  5. Where can you get the neatly styled engine covers, that i've seen on some of your rides? I've seen different coloured letters etc... are these available to buy or have they been individually customized??
  6. If the airbag light comes on and stays on the airbag may malfunction when you need it most!! If the battery is disconnected the light shouldn't come on, unless there is something wrong with the circuitry, ie. something you've done. Make sure you leave the bolt/nut on a couple of threads when you pull the wheel off the splines, save a trip to the dentist!
  7. anyone aint seen it check out the SLK SLR on you tube
  8. First, there's a knock from somewhere down there when i lightly shake the steering. It's not the UJ and i've checked the TREnds. I only have to move the steering wheel a few degrees each way to get this to happen, and it really sounds like a worn TRE moving in the knuckle... but it aint :@ It's also intermittent :@ . Also, i've got a low fluid/air in the system, whine, when turning at staionary or low speeds. I know this sounds like rack, but i was kind of hoping someone will say " oh that'll be your pinion linkage needing tightening" but i dont think you are!! Thought i should try save mese
  9. Would you recommend a full overhaul of the head before i started modifying the stock engine, with boost or even minor components, such as cams, exhaust, de-cat, filter, re-map, lowering compression etc? My current engine has done 100k and i plan to do the chains soon so i figure i may do some valve work while i've got the head off. Sorry if this is the wrong thread!!
  10. 24, had my VR for three months now, although it was me old mans before that and i've been maintaining it since i was 19.
  11. What determines whether it's got an obd1 and an obd2 is it the early models that have the obd1? What year did they change??
  12. Its ok to say to keep it above the red if your regularly get 25-35 mpg, but we all know the VR is capable of ludicrous mpg figures when your stuck in traffic. Besides, whats up with whippin the tank out and makin sure there's no shit to be processed? That cant be a big job!!I'd lose me house and declare bankruptcy before i got rid of me golf!!
  13. I work with a polish chap, that lived in Germany for nine years. When i bought my VR6, he said "vow!! 2 hundred 20 ps" I went fuggin no mate!! what the fug are you talkin about? Its 174ps. He said "Dis iz sheet" and went on to tell me about VW releasing these Synchro's with a turbo as standard in Germany!! Any one in the know about these beasts?? Is he 'avin me on?
  14. Thanks very much men. I've got to say, i'm surprised at the srength of the engine. Mine has done 100k and i never give it beans before oil temp hits 80, although i'm still a little worried about hitting 6k. It doesn't help being in the trade and seeing other people's misfortunes. Thanks again
  15. Have people got experience of having 350bhp+ with standard bottom end?? Surely it would be wiser to load the bottom up if your thinking about massive power increases? Are blown pistons or snapped con rods common place? Also, what would be classed as a healthy VR engine?? I'm a mechanic so dont be shy. Cheers gents
