    Would the top tension bolt cause a rattle like that also? How easy is it to check?

    Yeah my thoughts entirely, to be fair the original chains are over 10 years old, at least once they are done i will have that piece of mind and can enjoy it again Haha it doesn't sound like a sewing machine yet but there is a definate rattle.

    It's only 96 OBD2, 67K. Obviously been unlucky!

    Yeah thats what i thought! He seemed decent and new his stuff, had a genuine interest in the vr6 which always helps... What do you reckon on the price?

    A guy at a garage near me said he will supply and fit a set of hella twin lamps to my car and spray them mulberry to match the bodywork and has given a price of £250. They are second hand but no damage and will obviously look new when sprayed up. What do we think?

    As most of you have probably read in my previous post I have got a noise/rattle at 2k rpm on my vr, it's been bugging me and despite people (including mechanics) telling me it's nothing to worry about I took it to a specialist to put my mind at rest... Anyway, got there and the workshop has several VR6 engined cars, Golfs, Corrados, couple of mk2's and a mk2 vr van lol, also a new rs4, a lotus carlton, a maserati etc Lots of nice cars anyway. Chatted to the guy for a bit and he took a look round the car and after a good listen under the bonnet he concluded that the chains needed doing. Bummer.

    I've been told by the local garage 10W 40 Fully Synthetic. The guy is well into his cars too and has several vr6s.

    So far i have found Michelin Pilot Exalto 2's to be the best tyre all round. Fantastic Grip in wet or dry and last very well too, i had them on my last car and i rate them very highly indeed as do friends who i have recommended them too.

    Traction control haha If you drive hard you can get wheelspin in first second and third! I did it once :-p

    Thats unreal!!! You wet and dry sanded the paintwork!? Can you do that!? Then what did you use on it? That looks resprayed, im shocked, have i missed something... spurt

    Thanks for all the replies, appreciate this. Bigjobbo is the noise on yours also only at 2k and best described as a very slight rattle/vibration..? Cheers also vr6pete will upgrade when i get the email

    It's the later one, late 96 OBD2 n' all that. Could it really be the chains with that mileage!? I will have it checked anyway, it's very very slight but with me, any noise, rattle squeek on a car is a big deal. I'll give the phirm a ring at the weekend I think and see what they say. Im not a premium member yet unfortunately, I tried to upgrade a few times but it said the membership upgrade thingy was not available or something. Il try it again soon, about time I did upgrade! Cheers anyway people...

    Thanks sanky listened to the sound clip and it certainly doesn't sound like that! You can barely hear the car on tickover its just that slight vibration at 2k, maybe its just normal engine noise... :S

    Its hard to pinpoint, im really not sure. Whats the best thing to do? Can the chains be physically checked or is it just a case of a decent mechanic listening to them..? I thought they were good for 100k plus?

    At 2k rpm there is a slight rattle/vibration from the engine, above or below 2k rpm it is gone. It is very slight and most people wouldnt notice it, its just that i do and my friend who is a mechanic did but just said 'oh dont worry about it'. I just want to check that it is nothing to worry about. Its on 67k and just had an oil change it runs and pulls v well so just wondered wat that noise could be..?
