    if theres no oil in the water or creamy oil on the dipstick then it might just be a bit of condensation in the cap. i had this on my vr about 7 months ago. shit myself! wiped it off and it never returned. also check for steam out the back. my mates did this but it was well knackered at the time. good luck mate.

    yeah i think the vr and 16v exhaust is the same. the 8 vale uses a slightly smaller bore. i think?! :S

    hi there all. i am looking at a set of tt competition rims on fleabay and was wondering whether they will go on my vr without any mods. i understand that i must use 205 40 17 tyres but i plan to lower the car 35 to 40mm. will the arches rub or should i get away with not rolling them. cheers guys.

    thats a better description!! theres a ticking sound. i think its def followers. anyone any ideas where to get some. i night as well put some decent ones in while im doing the job eh?!

    yes it was serviced just last week by the local stealer. has been doing this since i bought the car 2 years ago and hasn't got worse, just thought i'd look into it and do the chains at the same time. why not change the cams as i will have to take out the cams to do the followers won't i? and a pair of schrick ones sound just the ticket. (6)

    there is a rattling noise coming from the front (water pump side) of the engine on my golf. the engine has covered 75000 miles so would the cam followers be due a change. it sounds like a timing chian rattle but is on the wrong side of the engine. this rattle is only there on constant throttle ie not accelerating and not on overrun. if it is the followers would it be wise to change the cams at the same time? thanks. andrew.

    have you replaced the front discs. just done mine (same problem) and it cured the juddering. just make sure its the disc and not the hub thats warped. not sure how you would do this though, maybe with a dial guage?? i took a chance and it was my discs. hope this helps. oh by the way, make sure you change the pads aswell. dont mean to state the obvious but i've seem people put new discs on while still using old pads. nice?!

    has anyone out there had any experience with discs and pads from gsf. any good? my discs are warped quite badly. i know that brakes are something you shouldnt skimp on but seeing as ive just come back from magaluf am on a budget. cheers all. andrew

    i dont think its bottom end as the car would be knocking like mad otherwise. i would tear the head off to have a look at the valves. then if it is the valves maybe get a recon head????? :S

    tbh 30 mpg is about right on a motorway journey obviously depending on how you drive. going very carefully i have seen 38 mpg in mine but this A) requires immence concentration and gets a very boring after a while.

    it seems to be that the 4 motion has plenty of power up to 3500 revs but then nothing. the vr on the other hand comes alive at this rev. or is it just me?
