For only a few months what you have done is fine - you could get anal and take the weight off the tyres so they don't flat spot by putting the car on axle stands but I wouldn't do that unless I was storing a car for 6 months plus. I have had over 20 Clio 172/182's and most were track based cars so sat up with little use between track days and I have never had an issue with simply doing the basics before a month ir two lay up ( good wash and dry, windows slighly open to aid ventilation etc) So if you have a garage I'd be cracking open a couple of Windows about an inch and leaving it
  2. Agree - as said the only way to make a top strut brace to work is if it attaches to the top mounts rather than the strut tops. Will look into the brace, ARB's and uprated bushes - what do we think about wheels - 15 or 16 inch? Thanks Guys so far!
  3. I know I won't be the highest, I have just passed 172,000 miles, but i'd really be interested to hear from the rest of you high milers! Also from a tuning perspective, how have they held up at higher miles?

Elaborating on this a bit, don't bother with drilled or groved discs, a disc can dissipate heat fine on a riad car, so ignore the flashy aftermarket ones, just buy some high quality basic discs - brembo do a range of oem style discs (I've used brembo hc's for many m as ny track days with issue) just make sure you get decent quality pads
  5. Thanks mate-is there any strut braces that attach to the top mounts? Most seem to bolt to the strut tops by piddly little 10mm bolts - which do absolutely nothing, I know pure motor sport do a kit but unsure if they do them for mk3-I'll research brakes seem ok bearing I'm on cheap pads-I've tended to use either 1155's or ds2500's - any preference on vr's?
  6. Cheers mate, yeah when I do a restoration or 'clean up' it is one of the first places I hit - it's amazing how much dirt and muck can find it's way into areas!

  8. Yeah I can imagine they are-the morettes never felt that great a quality, but looks wise I think they look great - I don't tend to use my Golf in the dark much mind. I think I'll keep an eye out for whatever comes up first
  9. Well if you're squeezing the pipes and getting coolant out the cap then the cap is definitely knackered. The bottle could be damaged on the threads and to be honest for how cheap they are to buy I'd replace both - I've found with vw's that the caps are worth replacing every few years or so anyway as the pressure valves in the caps can go a bit weak. A miss on start could be a number of things - important thing is to not only make sure that it's not loosing oil and water but to also check the water and oil are not mixing(as you could think it's not an internal issue due to not seeing one fluid

  12. this is my old VR6 and i'd like to know what make these headlights are - i can't remember them having markings on, but i really like the look of them and would like to find a pair to fit to my current VR Please excuse the poor quality of the photos - they are from 2006
  13. A t34 wouldn't make 400bhp but should make 300.

  17. I had a spare hour yesterday so I started tidying my garage ready for my re-fit plans, and had another good look over the Golf. Really suprised at the bodywork - it's really in better condition than i thought. Here are a few more pictures: All pretty solid here Strut tops are also very good Battery tray needs a quick going over, but solid all around Brand new alternator and aircon compressor Tiny leak on the side of the head i need to address but nothing bad Valve looks a bit oily mind - will be replacing it
  18. Is there a general accepted way of upgrading? I'm on coilovers at the mo, but wish to upgrade the various ancillaries. So for example, are standard top mounts ok or solid needed? Wishbone bushes-standard/r32/aftermarket better? Wishbones-standard or off another model? Rear axle bushes - standard or aftermarket? Anti roll bars front and rear? Anything I've missed? Car will be used for both road and track use, and is a 2nd car so used for fun/odd day to run to work in. I assume I have 288mm as mines a '96, but where do we go brake wise? I want to stick with either 15 or 16 inch wheels - whic

Alot of it is driving technique-learning how to use the throttle-for example when travelling at a set speed, backing off throttle a touch will keep you at set speed but reduce fuel consumption-but it sounds like you know what you're doing driving wise.
