i've covered about 17k miles since Jan now, virtually all motorway miles and with some ragging it - i don't hang about. i've stuck 1 litre of synta silver in the car since jan. no servicing or owt - can't afford it. VR still runs no problem. duncs

i already have a banner across the top of my rear window, which rules that out. if i stick it on a side rear window would any bugger actually -see- it? duncs

can you still buy this toolkit from the stealer does anyone know? mine obviously got left on some dodgy mechanics bloody floor at some point :S duncs

bugs is '95 on an M plate and is currently showing 114,100 miles - 15k of which I've done since Jan. chains need doing, too :| duncs

How do i know if the chains and tensioners need doing?
duncs replied to Jk*'s topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
if it's a -noticeable- rattle then yes probably need doing. mine need doing and sound like i have a couple of pygmies throwing a tin can full or marbles around under me bonnet :| duncs -
when i lived in austria i had a mk 3 GL and altho it was a chuggy 1.8 with a miserly 90 bhp i liked the style and comfort of the golf mk3, a great car for living and driving in austria. good traction in snow and very durable for the very different seasons. decided to go back to them after a couple of years but wanted an auto. vr6 was the only auto that seemed worth going for. mk 3's are cool and you don't see many VR's on the road these days. not in my neck of the woods anyway! duncs

i dunno but if i were you i'd avoid posting on the forum below ;-) http://www.noiseabatement.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1137&sid=496a7529d9bcd1f05b328b882bf8b3d4

i had the same problem and had mine done when the car was at its last service - a few bulbs was all, they didn't charge extra to do it actually.

that looks class. i want one. much difference in sound?
-
i quite like the one from the VW cabrio that fits into the VR - see post elsewhere on this board. that looks quite a lot better than the stock VR one imo
-
i'll get them to confirm it in writing then book it in to get it done. i'll let you know if they decide to 'revise' the price! duncs

claire well needs must, i guess. there is always more to things than meet the eye, hope it all works out for ya keep smiling :-)

one quick question as i don't know, how come you sold the VR and compromised on an omnipresent TDI anyhow?

bought this bumper for my car what do you all think
duncs replied to tubby's topic in Bodywork and Styling
i think it looks quite cool, a bit in yer face but i think that's the point of the thing. from experience all i can say is avoid speedbumps, avoid car parks, and definitely avoid continental cities ;-) -
problem i've found is if you make addresses easily accessible via forum posts, then all it takes is one spammer to get the list and then it does the rounds ad infinitum. and hotmail spam is bad enough already! :S

ok so having established that indeed my chains need doing, i enquired of my local stealer how much it'd cost for an annual lube service and replacing chains/tensioners/crankshaft oil seal at the same time. erm. this is the confused bit. they quoted me £350 ALL IN!!!! for the chains and £115 all in for the service. hmm. think they've made a mistake? i queried and they said they had just been given new pricing lists! duncs

HT leads? coilpack? both were a problem on mine and the problem generated a similar electricky smell. check coilpack/HT leads threads elsewhere on the board. duncs

exhaust-related maybe? depends how big the bang is, all i can say is i had something similar on mine for a while, it was due to the exhaust sleeve being in the wrong position, so when i went over speedbumps it banged against the strut, i could feel it through the floor of the car too. only did it on speedbumps or really bad potholes though. took me a couple of months to work that one out! duncs

i agree with gooner, i love those old beemer cabs. cheap now too steve. i'm actually thinking about getting another dub for the missus as she does a similar commute to me. i was toying with a corrado, but wondering whether i should go for something more sensible like a golf diesel or something. thing is, i need to be able to drive the thing and enjoy it, sometimes, too, which rules out a polo! any ideas?

i have the boring RAV4 family-mobile, which i am having to sell, as i need something bigger. however i'm glad i decided to keep my 928, £8k for 330bhp turns out a pretty good investment. i'm not sure i've driven another car where you can wheel spin it at 80mph, either ;-)

Until further notice BA has halted all flights from the UK. BA announced : 'I ain't gettin' on no plane, you crazy fools!'

i like the new layout, it's an improvement on previously - wonder whether adding a 'spotted' section might be worth considering? have seen this on a few other forums i've used and it can be quite fun as well as informative about fellow posters!

The show was good! We took the dogs and the baby and the VR6. Lucky with the weather too, it didn't rain while we were there :-) I only spoke to one guy at the VR6OC bit, everyone else must have gone into hiding :-(

My one regret with my VR is the lack of aircon. Everything else with it is spot on, and you don't see many in silver which are in decent nick these days. My budget was 2k. I got mine for £1750 after some hard haggling - but then had to spend just over £1k on it, so it all evens out in the end - matth76 is right!
