I was sent these links by a friend.. nearly fell of my chair laughing http://www.visit4info.com/details.cfm?adid=16522 http://www.visit4info.com/details.cfm?adid=22035
  2. Quaife are the gearbox daddies - essential for huge torque http://www.quaife.co.uk/catalogue/page61.htm Its also a 6 speed conversion you might also want to see of Trans-X do something for the golf
  3. From what ive seen, there are three basic options - tho there may be more Twin morrettes - which the Golf is one of the few cars that can carry them off and still look good - but pricey Mk4 Style Headlights or Mk3 With Angel Eyes conversion Both of the above are available from the usual sources, and theres a few sets floating around on Ebay at the moment - personally, im thinking of going for the angel eyes, I like the look and I have to replace my lights before next MOT (cracked lens ) Oooops.. forgot one more - Square Vento Style - but I beleive this requires substansial front pannel and
  4. If clearance is a problem, replace it with adhesive backed foil - will do both jobs, tho not damp sound quite so much... but hey, with a V6 under the hood, when's that ever been a problem ?? lol
  5. Simple Ask the local dude to show you some of his work - most painters have a book of photos to show you the kind of work they turn out, and im sure if you needed further re-assurance, he's point you to a satisfied customer to show you just what he can do Im afraid a lot of the larger and more "prestigeous" bodyshops get caught up in "insurance quote" pricing, a.k.a... ripping you off...and lets face it..
  6. Personally, I find the Avon ZZ3s the best balance of price and quality, and far better that the Nankang NS1's that were on there originally....
  7. Wonder if anyone hs any feedback on a niggle ive had during the few days ive owned my VR6..... She has a little quirk when starting - she turns on the key and fires fine, but dies immediately afterwards - it doesnt pick up or tick over ? The problem seems to be irrespective of temperature, she does it hot or cold, its totally random : !dodge ..sometimes a little tickle on the throttle helps her to catch, sometimes not. It only does it a few times too, before it startes and ticks over fine... and out of interest... what sort of MPG figures do other peeps 6's return ? I got mine to 31.6 MPG to
  8. to avoid fire... take her for a run first, then do it with the ignition off ! lol... the heat from the engine will dry the WD off, no risk of sparks igniting anything
  9. Not unusal for heat from the tranny to transfer up that way on a really long journey too EDIT : ON a RWD car .. doh ! lol
  10. Synth / semi synth isnt really an issue - its the viscosity rating Thinner oil, especially when hot, flows well, but it doesnt have the 'body' of thicker oils, so it flows away again faster, hence doesnt have quite the tenacity of the thicker oils, so it could be argued, lubricates less - imagine the difference between water and cooking oil Thin oil also has a tendancy to "foam" under high revs / agitation, so tappets can get oil/air mix which doesnt work effectively - thats why high revving engines switch to solid lifters. So, too thin - it lubrictes well, but less as it heats, and tends to
  11. Think the book states 10W40, but using 5W40 isnt wrong - its a personal choice thing. I find the 5W oil to be a little too thin and it leads to noisy tappets and leaks appearing in places, but thats just my experience
  12. IM guessing not - coil pack timing is set by the ECU, and if anything is adjustable, im guessing its a VAG job
  13. temporary fix - drown everything in WD-40, leave for a while, then wipe down with a rag - should sort the arcing out for a while
  14. Send it back... and this time (assuming U arent absoluutely desperate to get it back on the road), refuse to take it back without doing full inspection yourself - reputable bodyshops always go over the car before it leaves with the owner to make sure he's happy - and usually require the car to be "signed out" and back into your posession.. You've paid for it, so demand a top job !
  15. have to agree - mytyres.co.uk are the cheapest around, and come with free deliver if you buy 2 or more
