  1. i love the way the people here just say, yeah i have a £2000+ stereo, yeah, its good. you lot have way to much money!
  2. Good idea, but I've never had the problem i usually stick a couple of 1farad caps on to sort out the drain. Its not for listening to loud music as much as driving very high quality speakers. As for running the xbox and dvd, i sourced the power from the head units uprated 12v ign loom and 12v live from the battery. My main concern apart from the wiring layout is to ensure that the guages are correct (no fire hazards) and i really dont want to have a secondary power source in the boot. Thankyou for the info on the cable running though.
  3. Hi, I have a couple of amplifiers that i need to wire into my vr. Both of them are 2000W and hence need some large guage Wires to power them. Where do you run the cables for your amps? Speaker wires down the sides of the car (right and left), Amp Power on the left hand side of the exhaust pipe ridge and RCA's down the right hand side of the exhaust pipe ridge? Also my in dash tft will pop out and cover the air vents which i'll have to close, has anyone else had a problem with tfts and airvents? I'm planning of having my DVD player and Xbox in the boot since there is no glovebox, Where can i so
  4. Yep, i'm also looking for a good cat backsystem that is quiet, but gets snarly when its fed the right gas.
  5. excellent, its interesting how such devasting problems can have the simplest solutions, nice one.
  6. Age is not really a factor here, what is a factor is that my car misfired from cold when i put on a few revs, and when i say a few i mean slowly building up to 3000rpm in 1st. My local garage has told me that my fuel filter is clogged and one of my HT leads is damaged, I have since replaced them. I also noticed this morning that when i was driving in 3rd, from low rpms i would feel a VERY SLIGHT misfire. I'm glad the car's been checked out, and my mind is finally at ease. No need to go biting my head off now chaps. I'm not new to owning perfomance vehiclles, porche carrera 4s and jaguar XKR sp
  7. lol, i could put some money away for my RH splits hey tom? Your car great m8, love the alloys.
  8. quick update, i used the plastic remover tool on the bonnet strut, the plugs came off easy. I've just realized that im going to have to take the car to a garage to get the in01 counter reset. So i decided to just take it to a dealer and have a major service (everything) checked, quotes run around at £898 right now.....The nearest specialist said for major im looking at £300 so guess where its going . I didnt really trash the engine when i started her, rather than just taking her to higher RPM in first (instead of changing up). I've had to rebuild my mk2's head (skim it and everything!) so i kn
  9. guys thankyou very much for the advice, and taking all of your comments into consideration, will treat the vr like the 8v when warming up (very very very very very carefully). Although my 8v give me a warning it's not liking things (the throttle retards slightly before getting slightly lumpy, never get too hard on the old 8v when she's cold). Like i said in my welcome post, i've really come to respect the vr6, i can see what all the fuss is about, and will be a bit more when it comes to her needs lol. does anyone know what needs to be done when doing an IN01 service? I've changed oil, spark p
  10. I will look after it, if i could just get some help? Its just that im addicted to the engine noise at 4000rpm, is this normal? does anyone else experience this? I took the car out after my little putt putt stage, and it was fine after warming up.
  11. arent the doors on the VR6 operated by a vacuum pump, located in the boot? Might be a idea to check the switch in the drivers side door (might be shorted out), check fuse for central locking (check owners manual). also dont jet wash tyres they force microscopic particles into the rubber and create weaknesses in the side walls....(use a garden hose pipe, not a pressure washer). WAS IN today's driving section of times (sunday 19th sept 2004).
  12. Hi, I've finally taken my vr for a good ol test drive(pounding isnt right, changed), its amazing! people just dont understand that you have a VR, they think its another golf...lol... %-6 . I left my car for about 6 hours today outside, went out, checked the oil and saw it was very low, no leaks, no nothing, when i start the car it says in01, now this means a minor service right?? Also, when i got a bit heavy on the revs (4000RPM) in 1st just after pulling off (cold), the car instantly began to hesitate and became VERY VERY lumpy to the extent of being undrivable. This putt-putt stage lasted
  13. hey people, just to let you know, if you are going to buy a chip from anywhere, please read http://www.auto-amd.com/technical_5.asp for a bit of info, then you can make an informed decision on what you are about to do.
  14. everyone should have a few negative feedbacks, its normal, 93% good feedback, although in vwmg's case i would actually go visit him and get him to stick the chip in, if there are any problems a convoy of angry VR owners will be waiting for him when he opens his front door . Anyway, are you thinking of buying a chip? or just asking for the rest of us? danke! [ Edited Thu Sep 16 2004, 09:07PM ]
  15. Unfortunately i know nothing about hex values, i know there are 4 different types of hex, qword, dword, word and byte (sounds like someone just made them up LOL) i.e a word can be A123 the byte will be 23 *(please no more, i have no idea about this stuff LOL)* well if you do decide to go for it, i would also like to go for it, i want more vr6 and i want it now. Afterall the proof is in the pudding and if it works for you, it'll work for the rest of us. good luck vwmg and if he's willing to do it for free, then i have a bit more confidence in him. 16. Not trying to disuade anyone from buying a chip (i'm always open to new techniques), but correct me if im wrong, the point of having it rolling roaded, is so the map (which is essentially a map of hex values which your ecu interprets) can be adjusted so you get the most from your vehicle. £40 is a good price, yes i would be interested in the hex values, becuase its a sure way to know if he's just going to send you a blank (becuase the hex values will be made up), unfortunately i have NO IDEA what real hex values for our vr's look like and how the ecu interprets them. If you buy the chip vwmg,
  17. saga are an old age insurance company right? they only do people over 50 LOL, apparently its to do with the experience older drivers have, but doesnt take in to account old gits with cataracts and chronic artheritis in both hands (and hence cant actually steer). Ill be honest my grandfather drives and he's 74, the only thing he's ever done wrong is drive too slow (and he;s not allowed to drive at night). The old drivers are either totally oblivious to other cars or drive extremely cautiously (both are dangerous). my vr is going to cost me an arm and a leg to insure (and an eye for compulsary e
  18. i dont understand how you can programme a 'standard sport' map and apply it straight to a car, I was always sure that you got the sport map then 'tuned' it for the vehicle in question whilst on a rolling road (if this is true, then this evidence should disuade people from buying these chips?)
  19. I'm still looking to replace a cat1 alarm i have on the highline, my car doesnt start 1st time round, you have to unlock it, lock and unlock it before the immobiliser decides...'you are now allowed to drive your car'. I installed my Mk2 alarm myself and then got it thatcham approved by my local alarm specialist, its so much better when you do it yourself becuase you can easily fault find. Infact my vr's door pins have problems closing when locking using central locking. I had no idea it was vacuum driven until i heard my pump whining away...must be a leak on the passenger side .
  20. Why not just get a head unit with an in dash tft, i bought a DVD player and it does MP3 on DVD!! (only 90 pounds too!), vcd, dvd, mp3 cd, cd etc etc. The Poolice can only do you for MOVING images on your screen whilst your moving (and also if it obstructs your view or may be distracting to drivers behind you). Saying that, i have a reverse camera on my 8v golf and i've had a copper say, 'it totally elimates your blind spots, very good driving aid', and saying that i've been told to switch it off by a community support copper right next to my house on baker street!
  21. I bought my avh 6400CD from the USA, and the FM/AM works fine, its also compatible with XM radio (and NOT DAB). So its worth checking for it. The DVD drive must be unlocked (since the nav cd is region locked, (not 100% on this)?), email pioneer, they helped me with mine.
