Just been for a blast round some amazing country roads near aberdeen (Banchory - fettercairn for the locals) and my VR6 handled like a bag of sand!! Need to get this sorted now! I have been quoted £400 supplied & fitted for a Bilstein Streetline Kit and have seen an APEX kit for £227 delivered Both kits lower 35mm which is all I am looking for. I don't need adjustability, and as the car never cost the earth, don't want to spend £600 on coilovers. I guess I want something decent, at up to £400 very max, but preferably I'd like it all fitted for under £400....... Anyone heard anything about -

good thorough review of Peco there I was looking forward to getting a stainless system on my VR but the previous owner put a brand new VW system on the car the week before he sold it to me... nice of him! So, rather than waste the whole thing, I think I will just go for a backbox too. When I had my Mk3 16v, I fitted a REMUS backbox and found that the fit on it was shit! I replaced it with a MILTEK system and it was so much better - no knocks or rattles. Turns out that the MILTEK has a flattened neck were it crosses over the rear axle, whereas the REMUS is rounded all the way, and this cau

I just fitted a Pioneer 12" sub and a Lightning Audio 2 ch amp (150W RMS).... To be honest, I am actually surprised as to how good it sounds!! Just wanted a cheap set up and knew a mate selling the stuff out of his car. The standard speakers are run off my Alpine HU and sound great as the bass it turned right down on them all... In my last mk3, I had a Rockford 4ch amp, with 2 channels (bridged) running a MacAudio sub, and the other 2 running DLS components. When I had this I got the front doors Dynamatted... Sounds was clear in the front, and no rattle. I find that the Mk3 Golf is pret

cheers Mike How much is the car lowered by? Coilovers? Do you know if much work was needed to the arches to get the wheels on? Mike

the basic AA check is pretty poor - basically a walk round the car which you could do yourself!! the most expensive one (think there is 3 different checks to choose from) has the car on ramps etc and driven... probably as good as the RAC one... not sure of cost though - £200???? As for a car with a new engine.... you may find that it will cost less than another VR6 with the initial engine... Ok, so something went wrong in the past, but if the work was done, and preferably at a good garage, then I can't see any problems. When was the engine replaced? If it was in the last year you may hav

my VR6 is as it rolled out of the factory... I want 17's on it again and lowered.... maybe some fat 16's instead of the 17's though.....

I liked my old 16v - very fresh & simple! I like the look of the Mk3 as standard - all it needs is wheels & lowered suspension!

my opinion is yes. Coming off a roundabout in the mk4 and putting the foot down resulted in a heap of wheelspin. The VR seems to just pull away. However, my car was an early model (1999). So when chipped I only got 172bhp... later cars chip much better (2001 onwards cars can see approx 230bhp with a Jabba remap!!) That may have made the car more interesting!! But, with being made redundant, I couldn't keep paying my loan so had to sell the Mk4. Got the VR6 at a good price and so don't have a loan. I was going to have it for 6 months till I have a job etc, but think I may hold on to it
