Big J 283
can anyone tell me what the normal runnin temp is meant to be on a 95 VR? ive had the thermostat out and it says on it 80, but under test its opening at about 68/69. therefore runnin on the cool side. the gauge takes ages to read and the temp never goes over about 70 (just over the white lines) apart from on tick over when it climbs quite rapidly then drops when i get movin out of traffic again. *-)
Classy6 0
Average temp should be around ~200*F.When was the last time you did a coolant flush?
6potmkII 0
they usualy go to 90 (dead middle on the gauge) and stay there.i personaly would keep like that throughout summer den change it back later.

Big J 283
so what should i do about it then? after speaking to tim at the phirm he said to leave it as it is, because its better to open early rather than late. he also said to check the electric pump as im sure it doesnt work. my old 1800 SE sits dead on 90 and stays there too. Russ_vr6 12
my vr runs at 75 all day mate, unless u sat in traffic, and oil runs at 90-+94 average and 106 if giving it some and yes at least it not opening late!
ian 182 0
mine sits at 90 smack in the middle whether im in traffic or notian
matth76 1
90 is the average operating oil temp for mine in the summer, and 88 in the winter (which you see on the trip computer). Not recommended to take a VR over 3k revs until it reaches the normal operating temp (which takes about 10-15mins). Mine normally reaches 100-102 if I'm really caning it. The type of oil also affects what the normal operating temp will be but as a guideline it will normally be the high 80's early 90's.By the way I find the standard trip computer much more accurate to see when the car has reached the right oil temp rather than any of the gauges. Use it every time I'm waiting for the car to warm up.. would be lost without it!
drewvr6 0
my temp guage has sat at 70 just above the block of white lines for 5 years with no probs .when i bought the car i was concerned with this but was assured by numerous specialists some vr6 run cool and to leave alone .and they where right 70000 miles later
Ciaran 4
u will find that the oil put in a vr is designed to lubricate best when the car is warmed up therefore lowering the viscocity of the oilif the car never warms up properly would their not be a lack of proper lubrication??whats ur oil temp normally??? gav_113 0
my water temp is usually around the 70 mark, never goes alot higher, and oil temp around town is usually around 96 and after fast driving it may go to 102 - 104 no more though! hope this helps?
George-1982 0
mine is doing exactly this, running at 70ish all the time, only just moving off the line, but at a stand still/idle it gets up to dead on 90 ????? My car also smells slightly of fuel after I give it a bit of a ranting but I've been told to possibly check the coolant temp sender as this would explain the intermittant temp guage and the over -fuelling ??? Any thoughts ??? '92 vr6 AAA codegeorge :-( :-( :-(
Big J 283
mine does this, justs goes over the line then goes to bang on 90 at standstill. ive had to order a new thermostat housing as it cracked when i was doin the chains, and then purely down to my stone hand i cracked the main pipe that runs into the water pump. bugger! :$ never really looked at oil temp as ive only had it a month before i decided to renew the timing gear and clutch. will keep my eye on it when its running again tho. Ciaran 4
well as long asw your oil temp is ok then the lubrication is sufficiant. the cooling water temp is prob better lower as it will work better when necessary
