aimee 0
hmmm that doesnt quite sound right!and surely this statement taken from the article should read over 7 not upto 7?? It was thought vehicles up to seven years old would be exempt from the shake-up, designed to penalise high emissions.I'm hoping someone has got this wrong and its just a rumour, otherwise it could be bye bye vr6! thegoth 5
It's just Sky making up headlines:The bit to the right says"Ministers Accused Of CO2 ConThe government has admitted that the new higher car tax band for heavily polluting cars will apply to vehicles registered as far back as 2001. That was something that the Chancellor failed to make clear in his March budget speech."Which still doesn't effect (most) of us. Personally I always thought it would be back dated to 2001 cars, the full budget report didn't try to cover it up and there's even a petition on the downing street web site about not doing it. Antera posted a link. Here's a less sensational version of the same story http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30400-1314519,00.html

bobda 0
If you have a car registered BEFORE september 2001, then you will be EXEMPT from the new tax brackets and will continue to pay tax based on engine size rather than CO2 emissions.THIS IS A FACT.The article is making reference to the fact that the new(er) tax brackets are being applied to all vehicles registered after September 2001, which is unfair on those people who bought their cars not knowing that the tax hike was going to be implemented. There ARE CO2 emissions data figures available for the VR6 - http://www.smmtco2.co.uk/co2search2.aspLevel (g/km): 199Which means that we would be in the current band F, £210 which would change in 2009 to band J, £260 then £270 from 2010.It will NEVER be backdated pre-2001, though so we will continue to pay the rate based on engine size, over 1.6 so £185 (although this will probably go up slightly with inflation and general rises.http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/629/629/7293011.stm

I can tell you that's wrong by the different amounts of carbon I put in them. Not that it matters ;-) Good to know we'll be quids in, not so long ago the band F VED was actually lower than we were paying.I did find the whole Sky news thing funny, the comments especially. Sums up all that is wrong with Sky News IMO - spoon fed cable news for Sun readers! Even their journalists can't read, or if they can they can't comprehend.
goonersteve 0
I renewed my tax yesterday and can confirm it is £185 for 12 months. Not too bad in the grand scheme of things.
