Ferrari VR6 0
Hi, i've recently changed my oil to fully synthetic oil as recommended by Halfords from their oil book (should it be fully synthetic) and now my VR seems to be developing a kinda tick tick ticking sound especially at low revs.Any ideas as to what this ticking is and if it's related to the oil change and what should i do to sort it, i'm getting paranoid that i'm doing her some damage Cheers! eViL 0
Fully Synthetic could be slighly 'thin' for an older engine..Did you change your plugs? Make sure they are nice 'n' tight, if there is a lose one that could be bouncing around.
jte 0
As per Evil Fully Synthetic is too thin. Best to use part synthetic and change it often
nickbee 1
A VR6 doesn't rev high enough often enough to need synthetic oil anyway.
Eat this 2
i use full synth should i change it to semi then?? gtx magnetec is semi should i go for that seriously i wanna put the best poss oil in engine i look after it
tandino 1
Why is synthetic associated with being thin ?! - you can get thick synthetic (for expample Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W/50and thin semi synthetic (for expample Magnetec 5W/30).......Its the viscosity rating that denote how thick the oil is not the fact its synthetic.possibly noise is he tappets pressurising but this should only last for a couple of minutes after start up from cold. You sure its not your injectors firing??Pete. VRmonster 1
i had a similar noise (i think, yet i havent heard yours yet. lol) when i changed the oil also, then i realise i had only put 5 litres in it and it could realy do with 6 for a decent top up. so check your oil is well into half way on the dipstick marker. SankysVR6 1
why don't you all use a good quality oil like what the dealers use i.e SYNTA SILVER.this is a semi synthetic based oil which is avaliable from the dealers at very resonable price too.and which is recommened for vr6 by many peopledealersstealth racingpeolple on the forum[ Edited Thu Aug 26 2004, 08:33AM ]
Ferrari VR6 0
Thanks for your comments on this guys, they did sell me the thin 5W/30 so it looks like i'm changing the oil again... but more expense :@ so soon, oh well the VR's worth every penny as i'm sure the majority would agree
tandino 1
Halfords fully synthetic is 5W/40 perfect for the VR,There semi synthetic they sell is 5W/30 - thinnner and possibly too thin for your tappets to pump up....Sounds like they sold you this??Pete.
Ferrari VR6 0
Now you say that Pete, i'm not sure, i'll have to check when i get in from work, thanks mate... [ Edited Thu Aug 26 2004, 01:27PM ]

Ferrari VR6 0
Well i gave my VR another oil change yesterday but this time used Synta Silver and thank f### she's now back to purring like a pussy cat on viagra...Thanks for your comments on this one people, very much appreciated
sundodger 0
I've put synta gold in mine as advised by the "local" GSF shop. Does this explain the "noisier" ticking/clattering of mine then?Looks like another oil change for me too.
acf8181 0
could well be...don't listen to any advise from them again!
