PhillT 0
:$ Sorry if this has been covered before guys but I'm terminally bad at searching (and generally finding anything)basically the Corrado VR has produced a really nasty rattle for the first few seconds of running on cold start-upI've not confirmed which side of the engine yet, but will investigate it tomorrowit's had a new aux. belt tensioner recently and I've not heard any signs of the infamous timing chain rattle yet (138k now) could this be a common (also read simple) problem? like the tensioner not being fitted correctly (don't they need to be 'primed' with oil before fitting?)thanks in advance for any pointers guys, know it's not the best description but wanted to ask ASAP

lee060 3
the only one i know that doesnt do it belongs to dlea on here , tho that gets its oil changed every 1000miles (one thousand , not ten lol) synta everytime . that might have somthing to do with it?
Keaty 0
Mine only seems to do it if its really cold or been sat idle for a few days......all my golfs both Mk2 & 3 have done it at some point.
baldyman 0
I had this problem and took the car to a independant vw garage and was told it was my oil pump and had that replaced but it made little difference. But when i replaced my upper tensioner the problem went away! Just a thought!
vr6newcomer 1
the synta has actually been replaced by fuchs oil at v.w and g.s.f, its still semi synthetic, and only about £15:00. i do my oil after about 5 thousand miles, and still get the noise, just a case of having a bit of mechanical sympathy and not booting the car before your engine warms up properly. PhillT 0
hmmm.. think it may be the serpentine belt tensioner, as it's also started to make a high pitch tone when the car is idling!annoying considering it was replaced not long before I brought the carI'll report back when I get round to replacing it
SankysVR6 1
If it's the belt tensioner it might be good idea to re-grease the bearing first to see if the noise goes away. Theres a guide for it in this section quite easy to do aswell
SiGainey 1
Mine doesn't do it and it's been serviced every 8k by vw. Now on 105k...
