  1. thanks for the offer , i have just put my old gearbox in after having the torque convertor reconditioned, cleaning the valve body and replacing all the gaskets/seals that are accessible. working fine now ! Centre box has just fallen off though , only exhaust fitters over here want £!80 but wont replace it without the rear silencer as its gone to . they want £360 to replace both- damn vr6 !
  2. Im not setting out to bad mouth this guy but i bought an auto box off him for £120 being told that it was in perfect working order, been tested thoroughly and no problems atall. I got a price for shipping to CI of £90 and agreed with the seller how to pack it by putting it on quarter of a palet . DHL picked it up and shipped it over but when i went to their depo to pick it up he had put it on a full pallet and put the cost up to £320. After explaining everything and speaking to their manager i got it down to £220. Old gearbox came off , timing chains etc done then new gearbox on. go to d
  3. can you clean this sensor atall ? its on an OBD1 it that makes a difference. how much to replace it ?
  4. quite possibly but when the car is off and stationary i have got some one to press the pedal to engage kickdown and it engages and disengages fine - i even sparyed some WD40 down there ,so im having fault codes read first thing monday morning thinking it could be an electricual fault.. its weird because the kickdown works - it drops a gear increasing revs then changes up but when you slow down it gets stuck in a gear. my money is on a sensor , would the throttle position sensor maybe do this ?
  5. after using the kickdown on the vr6 it seems to drop down a gear as it should but gets stuck in that gear and wont change. It only happens after using kickdown and drives fine untill you use it , to get it un stuck i have to turn the car off and on again then its fine till you use kickdown. any ideas ? maybe get codes read ? im sick of this problem please help me out ! throttle position sensor ? im deperate here
  6. It also had its wheel alignment done this morning after new track rod ends and ball joints. The front Camber, Caster and Toe where adjusted for £70 and was well worth it to make it smooth
  7. Here she is , i have spent the last two years trying to solve the automatic gearbox issues and after buying a naf replacement gearbox from the uk i nearly gave up but after a reconditioned torque converter , oem wiring harness , gaskets , seals , oil- changes and a full valve body strip down its there. Changes gears really cleanly , moves down and up at the right time and no oil leaks. Ive also changed the timing chains, guides and tensioners aswell as the driveshaft boots, sump and rocker cover gaskets, thermo housing , crack pipe , oil cooler seals , rad , thermostat , aux water pump ... yo
  8. thanks mark just seen your post , i ended up going to the garage that used to service it and was told 45Nm . but thanks for the reply i did the 10Nm thing , well to the same principle before fully tightning.
  9. whats the torque setting for the driveshaft to gearbox ? for the six spline bolts. Really need this !!
  10. auto trans southampton - http://www.autotranservices.co.uk/index.php?page=services already getting them to recon torque converter but anyone had any experience with them ? im paying £150 so good price but they havent contacted me atall.
  11. just got one so just need some brake cleaner now. Any ideas of a good glue / adhesive thats resistant to ATF? just because the plastic connection on the solenoids are very brittle.
  12. thanks for the quick reply, i just wasnt sure with it being an auto box etc. i'm going to go ahead with it and just do it very slowly because it needs doing.
  13. been advised the valve body on my auto box needs cleaning. i have found a good guide on it but any advise on if i should give it a go or not? the gearbox isnt on the car its on a work top.
  14. that is so lucky , proves that it is worth taking a look at things first before writing them off. quite jeaulous now!
  15. should i attempt cleaning the valve body on my auto box? i was told this needs to be cleaned.i have found a guide on it but not sure if i should http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3780457 the gearbox is off the car
  16. a recon is £950 inc torque converter , ive done alot of research into it. try adjusting the kickdown by turning the bit near the bulkhead either clockwise or anti-clockwise. To change the filter and seals cost me £55 in parts from the dealers. When changing the fluid you'll have to keep on topping it up after the car has run because it takes a while for the system to circulate and fill with ATF and just be carefull to keep all parts clean
  17. thanks guys thats a relief , now ive got to wait for auto box seals and recon torque convertor to come through ! anyone else realise how quickly vr's burn money?
  18. just wondered whats wrong: ive have had brake disk . caliper and driveshaft all off. Put them all on again , tightened the little retaining screw on the disk and went for a short drive, took wheel off and the brake disc was loose. i tightened the retaining screw on the disk as it had come loose and it stopped it wobbling . is the retaining screw the only thing holding the disk on when the wheel is removed ? or am i missing something
  19. its so hard to find the right code , i found it once, bought the gearbox and it had a split down the side with no reverse.
  20. ok aslong as the gearbox will fit ill buy it. if i buy the ecu from him will this make sure it works ?
  21. great, and the sensor on the differential end looks slightly different shorter but its the same connection. would i need to get a new gearbox ecu for this gearbox or not ?
  22. will this gearbox fit my golf 2.8 vr6? its not the same code but has the dipstick as mine does. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/vw-corrado-vr6-auto-gearbox-recently-reconditioned-/180687792512?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a11d4e980
