about ten minutes from winchester. near alton. i was actualy in southampton last weekend. will look out for your car when im next there. what colour is yours?
-
progress stalled a little this week waiting for more dye to turn up as i ran out trying to finish off the lining. will get round to that this weekend as well as giving the last few panels a polish and taking some pics as she's now going up for sale. madness i know but i should have waited a month or so as i always wanted a black VR. finally got one today from B7DVR. which means that the blue VR will have to go. stupidly paid out on a few uneccesary jobs thinking id keep her but nevermind. nice and clean ready for the next owner.

you know i was going to say a scrapyard mate but ive just checked your location. never been to poland. but if there are any nearby its your best bet. there are 7 i think on each door and you can get to a handful by just pulling a corner up. ive got a few spares myself. neve rknow when vw will discontinue something

id quite like a set. are they not available in rhd? or is it a case of changing them back when the m.o.t comes round?

I need a new glovebox handle for the lower box. vw can't find the part on their system and Id rather not buy a whole glovebox from ebay. can someone check to see if there is a part number on the handle. would be really helpful. thanks

thanks for the comments guys. changed the boot.passenger seals this week which has cut wind noise and stopped a lot of moisture getting into the boot. i stanrted removing the plastics from the pillars and roof this week. currently halfway through. here are some before shots. pics dont really show how dirty the lining and plastics are. dirty fingers and smokers to blame here! i had to use some harsh cleaning products to get them back to the original colour. shame really as im changing them to black i also got round to fixing the lining where it has broken and was very weak around the centre

i went into halfords on the way home from work. didnt see any of those. ive got autoglym black dye for the lining as ive used it before and its awsome on fabrics. just not ideal for plastics. tried the passenger sun visor and messed that up already so gonna need another. i bought matt black paint to try. have done the drivers visor now and its currently drying it looks good so far. will get some pics up as soon as i can.

another job that needed doing was the rear bumper. the mountings had broken and it was hanging a bit low. so i took it off and found both mounts broken. bit of p40 each side sorted that problem robbed some more dash parts from the scrappy. (still hunting for that heated seat switch) also had time to change out the door handles for some chrome ones. not sure they fit in with all the plastic but they' might grow on me (thoughts??)

some may have seen i posted in the transmission forum that my clutch was wearing and the gear selector assembly came apart. so for the last two weeks ive been waiting patiently for the chance to get cracking on the other parts of the car i wasnt happy with. picked the car up today. new clutch in. feels really good now. 1st job was to find wiper/tow eye trim and get rid of the non o/e rear clusters. seals were too small and letting some water in. thanks to motorbreath for the standard rears. think it looks a lot better already before after

does anyone know the size of a vr gear knob? and if they are screw or push fit? I want to lose the mono one I've got fitted and don't know what type to get. cheers

I noticed that what i thought were reflectors in ther doors pulled out and have a set of bulbs. obviously meant to light up like my previous mk4 golf. are they supposed to be connected or is this a factory extra? any ideas if this has been done. there is a plug which fits into the holder, would i need this or could i attempt a hard wire into the other interior lights? cheers

confirmed. 1 push for on, another push turns it off. cheers guys

can anyone confirm which way round the two parts for the selector fit together. the cable which holds the bush on top or the sold arm on the box on top many thanks
-
if thats the case i'll run down a scrappy and pull the parts i need off another. the assembly looks fine at the moment. the garage can double check when they do the clutch. which i think is going to be next week now. :-(
-
ok. i'll order up a clutch kit and leave it with the garage. see what happens. cheers
-
this is the culprit. stopped by the garage to check out the car and found the bolt for the gear selector on top of the box along with the bush!!! that would explain why it was stuck in 3rd. i put it back in temporarily and sat in and i can select all gears but started it up and tried moving it and the clutch is pretty much non existent. better its done now i suppose than further down the line when i actually need it every day. cheers oli for the pointer mate. luckily its not broken just missing a nut. can anyone confirm the assembly for the selector. ive got the bolt and bush but missing oth

ok. I'll check that later tonight. the garage can't look at it until thursday.I think a new clutch is a definate but I'm positive something else is wrong. any other suggestions welcome. cheers

I was due to post some pics of my vr now ive got her back from the shop but have run into a problem. I always knew the clutch was going. its been high since j bought it. i was driving it and got to a roundabout in 3rd, tried to change down to 2nd, then 1st but couldn't. the box went all sloppy and I could only select 3rd. I managed to nurse it 45 miles back home to my local garage only having to stop once. unfortunately it was on a hill and I burnt most of the clutch trying to pull away. at the end of the journey the engine revs were rising but not the speed so im guessing the clutch is now fo

sorry. i should mention its not on all the time. but if i push the stalk forward to wipe the rear screen no amount of pulling forward or fiddling will cancel it!!! its bloody annoying. lukey..might be the same problem though. i will rip the dash apart and take a look as there is no 'dead zone' as you say. id imagine that pulling it forward would place it there but obviously something has broken. will get back to you. got to change the momo steering wheel back to a standard one so its all gotta come out anyway
