  1. I'm pic whoring, but hey... more of this weekends activities. The link in the post above is well worth a watch, who says Mk3 VR's are slow?
  2. i'm not a premium member because I owe The Police a large amount of money which is currently taking priority next payday I will get premium membership though
  3. found a cheeky link of my VR in action, enjoy...
  4. if you fancy selling your kit to fund a direct port kit let me know WON fitting prices are absolutely extortionate mind! I refuse to pay over 300 quid for fitting something that can be fitted and setup in a few hours.
  5. I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for an LSD Interesting about the tyres, I've been told to avoid R888's for 1/4 mile use, a lot of people said they don't like getting hot quickly (ala, burnout) and don't produce the same sort of grip as on a track. I was going to try Mickey Thompson ET Streets, bit more expensive but immense grip, hence worrying about the shafts/box. Looking forward to seeing your car run Tony when I'm next at pod, sounds a bit of an animal
  6. i'm not too worried about the engine, i'm quietly confident in that bit, haha. The shafts and boxes are what worries me. I come from a Polo/Lupo background, they have notoriously crap gearboxes! I'm hoping a VR is built properly. Not using a gearbox too weak for a G-Wizz like a VW Lupo is.
  7. I'm now doing 2nd gear burnouts on Toyo T1's, which gets heat into them and they grip well, but I need to step it up a level. I'm also flatshifting 3rd to 4th which isn't too kind on parts! I want to run sticky drag tyres and I'm pretty worried it's gonna start pooping out shafts and even worse gearboxes. After seeing my mate's EK Civic poop a driveshaft doing a burnout at the weekend it has me worried! What sort of power can these things handle? Or what is the weak item that's gonna go pop?
  8. I wondered who that was! Your car sounded lovely
  9. Phatty's had some good times with his Rado VR on gas which has inspired me. It's just nitrous is totally alien to me, I know literally NOTHING about it, haha. It'll be combined with a turbo eventually, but I'm hoping for a quick fix to drop me into the 13s. A reasonable shot of gas should do that.
  10. Well a little update after the weekend's activities. Had a little trip to Hornsea to collect a car with my mate. On the way back a flock of birds aimed for my VR So I set about a new look for the front and hit the track. Did well over 45 runs, managed 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and a new 1/4 mile PB of 14.65 @ 94mph. Not bad for what is affectively a standard VR6 engine with no money spent on it! Next step for this Summer is N20 and sticky tyres 8-) Brilliant thing is, I did more runs than any other car, including some pretty big 2nd gear burnouts and the car never missed a beat. I love it! S
  11. Is anyone running it, and what sort of kit are you using?
  12. hit a new PB on Sunday 14.65 @ 94mph. Yes, only 5 hundredths faster but it all counts. Also record 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds as well. Can't find the timeslip though with the 6.2, I have it in my car somewhere! I did more runs that any other car over the weekend at York, with scalps including a Nissan 350Z, Nissan Skyline R33 GTS-T, Honda Integra Type R (DC2, alleged 220bhp) a RWD Honda H22A Pug 106 GTi. Not bad for a pretty much stock 900 quid Golf VR6!
  13. I am well game for a bit of that like Ben I'm not shy so as long as the beer is flowing it's all good! I just want to look at some nice cars and meet nice people!
  14. i just checked my rota at work and i have a 4 day weekend so i'll come sometime friday afternoon. may be on my own so i hope you don't bite. haha. i also may be the most Northern person at the show...
  15. looks very similar to mine haha. nice colour!
  16. thank you and yes mate I am on Ed38 as "MoneyPit" after the build of my Eaton'd G. i took the front reg off last night and cleaned behind it, took it for a drive to see what it looked like... i do like it but no way could i be bothered with the police hassle or the cheap look of the plate sitting in the window, so it's bolted back on now. I'm thinking of tinting the front headlights and spraying the grille black?
  17. thanks man, I'm off to Saltburn very shortly, I love the place - I live in Marske. There's a couple of VR's in Saltburn actually! if I'm off work and it's not in bits I'll definitely try and make the owners meet.
  18. Guess I should do a little thread for my car. Back in June 2009 I bought this as a bit of stop gap really, just wanted a cheap car that was quite practical to replace my previous car, which was this - So yeah, the Mk3, I paid 900 pounds for this, it was a bit tatty inside and the clutch was slipping a little but underneath it was spotless and it was a nice late spec car which was exactly what I wanted. Month after I splashed out on some ebay special coilovers (which have been spot on!) and some new Avon ZV3 tyres I added a cone filter and a de-cat which made absolutely no difference to t
  19. Just curious to see if there's anything happening in the North East area? I'm around Middlesbrough and see a few VR's kicking about, just wondering if there are any VR related meets or GTG's I should know about? Liam
  20. I had the same problem on my old 16v Rado and as above - it was the clutch slave cylinder leaking fluid. New one for about 50 quid and an hours labour solved the problem. HTH
  21. hope we can get a little table going, would be good to see a table for turbo cars, s/c'd cars and then N/A cars. i'm back at York in two weeks time and aiming for a 14.3 which is gonna take a mighty effort from what is effectively a stock OBD2 mk3 vr6! Hoping the race cars can say some rubber down and I can get my 60ft times closer to 2 seconds flat.
  22. i'm starting my turbo build parts buying soon, their turbo and wastegates seem a nice bit of kit for the money. A nice GT35 is the daddy but unless you go second hand (eg not knowing what you're buying so budget for a rebuild) they are more than twice the price of those turbos, you gotta think whether you are getting twice the product holset turbos are used a lot in sweden/norway on big power turbo cars and seem to produce the right results. Definitely remember a lot of big BHP turbo BMW's running them.
  23. thanks, supposed to be at spring fest next week but money is tight gives me more time to work on the car though. weight loss = free bhp matty.vrt was at york yesterday but never got to see his car run, think he was in low 13s, but grip was really low as it rained hard in the morning couple more vr's in my class and phatty got his rado down to 14.7 but he had a few problems i think, that rado definitely has a low 14 in it
  24. Thought I'd start this off since the 2009 thread is a bit out of date Had my first run on the 1/4 mile yesterday and this was my best run - The car (race number on the side to match timeslip) - Engine Spec - Broken stock exhaust - no cat, no middle box and the back box fell off Cheapo cone filter I found in my Dad's van Rear seats and rear carpets removed. Toyo T1 tyres dropped to 23.5psi on the front. Aiming for sub 14.5 on May bank holiday weekend with more weight reduction
