  1. What do people recommend, aiming for mid 300's on sensible boost, that is a bit cheaper than the garrett gt series turbos?

everything bar the dashboard. no sound deadening, crash bars, no interior plastics, no rooflining, etc. only things i can make lighter is the windows, sunroof mech out, remove the second skin of the doors/boot/bonnet, and remove the dash. It's a daily driver until i get my Corsa project on the go

it's not about bhp it's about how you launch the car, plus mine is quite a bit lighter than a normal VR York dragstrip are doing a 0-60 day this weekend coming. They also use the TSI 0-60 timing a GTi Inters but it's a worse surface.
  5. this is something i want to try so i need a Golf V5 box, DZL code. 100mm driveshaft flanges to use the VR6 shafts? Anything else?

I'm aiming to beat my mates Focus RS which did a 5.9 lol That 6.1 was in it's old spec which was bit heavier and crap Toyos. Shed another 50kg out of the car and I can launch harder on the Yokos. TSI timing too, which is what they use at Santa Pod, etc, so it is accurate! (not me and my mate with a stopwatch lol)
  7. to continue the trend as seen in the stickies. who's got down the 1/4 mile this year and what are you running? I got to york on monday and managed a 14.5 @ 95mph, deffo got a 14.2/14.3 in it, wasn't running well at the weekend. car is an obd2 vr, crappy motorworld cone filter and a custom 2.5" exhaust and de-cat. (189.5bhp)

    I've managed 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. OBD2 VR6, cone filter and exhaust.
  9. Anyone going? I should be there, hopefully pissing off the Skyline owners club again.
  10. Oh well their advert is wrong so as long as it's a vr coilpack there should be no problems?
  11. Do all VR6 engines (2.8 & 2.9) share the same fitting coilpack? I need a new one and have been offered one off a Corrado. Thanks Liam
  12. I'm thinking carb cleaner down the throttle body and clean the MAF? What's best to clean the maf with? My mate said use electrical contact cleaner as it evaporates quicker.
  13. Right banged it on vagcom. Got the following code - 00533 14-00 relating the idle speed. Anyone encountered this and fixed it?
  14. I'm going to put it on vag com at my friends tomorrow. It decided to stop doing it today mind :/
  15. What makes you think it's broke? It's just I think mine may be faulty. The car misfires at low rpm when at running temps. Cold, it's fine.
  16. I'll check the maf. Might as well clean it while it's off. The plugs and leads are deffo in tight, first thing I checked. It's quite intermittent which makes it a total pain in the arse, and it never does it when the car is cold, only when it's up to temperature, which makes me think it's related to a sensor.
  17. Oh yes... My obd2 vr is misfiring and stuttering under 2krpm. After that it pulls fine. Fitted new plugs/leads thursday it seemed to solve the problem. Until today when I went to a rr day, filled up with shit total fuel and it started stuttering again. Replacing the crank position sensor has been suggested. Any other suggestions? It's driving me mad. Still pulled 189bhp on the rollers mind.
  18. My front brakes need replacing so I thought I'd upgrade as I replace. I'd like to keep the 15" wheels OE wheels to keep the original look and so that I can fit wrinkle wall drag tyres. and still have clearance. The discs aren't an issue, what I am curious about is upgrading the calipers. I did a search on here and someone recommended Audi S2 calipers and carriers. Any other kits anyone can recommend?

    Some VRT q's

fair point. I'm most worried about the gearbox and shafts shitting themselves. beginning to think I may not have gone big enough with the wastegate, is 38mm big enough? thanks for the help guys. i'm not the most mechanically minded person in the world but trying to learn as i go along.
  20. it's at least worth getting an AFR gauge to keep an eye on it. whoever is tuning the car or mapping it will be able to advise you a lot better than me. have a read through this too - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air-fuel_ratio I am no expert with this, just learning as I go along from friends who tune their own cars and lots of reading.
  21. monitors the air/fuel ratio so you can see whether it's running rich or lean.
  22. So I've finally pulled my finger out and decided to get cracking buying bits for my VRT build. The car didn't sell and it was what I always wanted to do, so... I've already got a wastegate and manifold. I'm going for a Holset HX35 turbo which I should get next payday. United Motorsports have been incredibly helpful so far and I've decided I'm going to run their software, the 42lb injectors as they recommended and the bigger MAF housing. So I've got a few Q's left I hope some people can help. United Motorsports recommended using an Apexi boost controller, now it looks a damn sexy bit of kit, bu
  23. reading the above lists, is it crucial to use a short runner intake manifold then? I'm umming and ahhing over supercharger vs turbo. The aim is around 340-370bhp which i think will be cheaper to achieve with a turbo set up.
