  1. Right lads im clocking off and getting out of work, and thanks for all your help lads, much appreciated, Jimmy good luck with the MK2... LOL
  2. No Jimmy the car is actually faster with the MAF of, which is really baffling because if it was a faulty MAF with and airbox or induction kit, then wouldnt the car run in safe mode?
  3. Cool now where can i get this electrical contact cleaner from?
  4. Its not your fault at all Jimmy, How are you getting on with your hunt for a new VR. Craggsy I was just looking though the Market Place on here and out of the 3 induction kits which are for sale only 2 were plugged into the MAF..
  5. So running it without a MAF wont cause major damage to the engine. Ironincally im getting fuel economy with the MAF unplugged. So long as it doesnt cause the engine any harm im happy to unplug it and buy some coilovers :-)
  6. I didnt clean the filter before I fitted it It was purchased of Jimmy B on this forum (Jimmy if you read this - speak up mate lol). But it did feel dry. It was on his car which was an OBD1 VR. This MAF is completely doing my nut in now. Would it be wise to unplug it, get some electric contact cleaner and clean the MAF, clean the induction kit with the solution and let it dry, then plug everything back in and wish for the best? Heres the joke - I have also sold my original airbox with the K&N panel to someone on this forum, LOL LOL LOL
  7. I think it may be mate. So what does the oil have to do with the problem? To be honest it was a cheap buy from a guy on the forum here, so I thought why not. So if I have a K&N is it wise to unplug the MAF
  8. Hi Guys I am in need of some desperate help. I have fitted an induction kit to my golf VR6 OBD2 and since fitting it the car is backfiring and running rough with a loss of power. I have been on the forum and it was suggested that I unplug it and test the car out and it ran like a dream. I plugged in the MAF again after cleaning it with WD40 and within a day the same problem occured. I know the MAF regulates the air fuel mixture or has something to do with that. I called EURO car parts who have quoted me £200 for a MAF (TBH id rather spend that money on a set of JOM Coilies - lol). So I now h

BUMP BUMP BUMP - MalteVR6 where are ya mate....
  10. Hi Guys I am interested to know what the Golf VR6 in gear acceleration times are:- 30-50 MPH 30-70 MPH 50-70 MPH 50-90 MPH 90-130 MPH
  11. ok - my misfire problem has started again, albeit not as bad as it was before. I disconnected the MAF once again and there was a difference in the smooothness and pickup. So im guessing I need a new MAF? My question is what happens if I disconnect the MAF and continue to drive it. Will it harm the engine?
  12. Ironically a CTR has more BHP than a VR6 as standard, less torque and practically weighs the same. So on paper and also on the road, torque wins mate - hands down!!
  13. If you are a premium member and go into the market place, there are some guys on the forum who are breaking their VR's you might want to try there first.
  14. now for the rest of the work to begin - i reckon its going to cost me around 2k to get the car sorted. Respray Coilovers Schimmel cams and a remap Exhaust OUCH!!!! LOL
  15. unplugged the MAF yesterday and drove home from work which is 5 miles, the car ran fine and had some pull, so cleaned it with WD40 and pluged it in this morning - so far no problems - THANKS GUYS.....
  16. i also have the same issue with the fan. Its on for a good 10 minutes even after a short drive.
  17. Thanks Nat Is it safe to drive the car witout the MAF. If im correct the Maf is like a small adaptor type plug isnt it? If thats the one I will un plug and drive home if thats recommended. If it is the MAF how will the car run better without it being plugged in?
  18. Hi I seem to have the same problem. My car idles rough as well and also the exhaust backfires on a downchange. I will need a new exhaust soon. The MAF and coil pack. Where are they located and this is a DIY job for a person like me who is not mechanically minded at all... The car was fully serviced 3000 miles ago, plugs, ht leads, oil, filter and fuel filter...
  19. Hi Guys A silly question. My car has limited service history and has over 153000 on the clock. I just want to know if this is considered high mileage on this vehicle. Over the next year or so, I will be throwing money at it (cams, chip, exhaust, coilies, respray) and just wanted to know if its worth me spending the money or buying another VR. The exhaust is blowing at the moment and when it was all serviced i managed to get 34 mpg out of on the motorway - i have been told that vr6's can give up to 37 but I find this hard to believe.
  20. To be honest mate - I am still of the opinion that the VR6 hasnt been left behind, and can still give reasonably priced hot hatches/fast cars a run for their money...
  21. Keep persisting mate - there is always a solution to the problem - maybe you will just have to re evaluate certain things... if I was in your case Id carry on. Atleast you will have a sense of achievement for what you have built instead of always wondering "what if"....
  22. Personally I have upgraded from a MK3 gti 16v to a VR6 so i am making a comparison from a 4 cyl hot hatch to a big engined cruiser. The best way to describe it is, in a smaller engine hot hatchback, you are constantly revving the engine to get past, the engine is making noise, frantic shifting etc... makes for an atmosphere when you are driving the car. A mk3 16v GTI which makes 134 ft/lb torque - this isnt available until the high end of the rev range. On a VR this type of torque is available alot lower in the rev range. I actually do think they are a fast car. Mine was standard and with the
  23. im sorry guys 20th November I am out as the car will be sorn and off the road....
  24. before I hit the red i get about 200-220 as well, averaging 22mpg for driving local even though some of it is from one end of birmingham to another. to me it sounds normal, unless i need a vag com too lol.. 28 mpg from a r32t is fantastic...
