  1. Hi All, went to clean the MAF on the new car today and guess what, I can't find it! It's my assumption that it 'should' be between filter and turbo? Well I have taken the filter off and put my entire arm down the pipe to where it bends just before going into the turbo and nothing!

The next place I was thinking of looking is before the throttle body, but as it's an SRI that faces down I can't see past the custom rad, I can just make out the TB.

The last owner doesn't know and I have had no response yet from previous owners.

Any other suggestions before I take the front off?

    Cheers

  2. Ok thanks UM.

Changed the 2 sensors today the temp gauge works now, well sort of! Leave it stationary temp gets to half way, go driving it drops to 75-80? Still got high idle (1100) and no change to AFR. Had a drive tonight and kept an eye on the gauge it never went above 13, only on run over when it goes to 22+. I was expecting it to be near stoic when cruising at 70 in 6th?

The wideband is an innovate MX which comes as gauge and probe, how often should they be calibrated? Site says every 3 months?

Any more suggestions where to start? The cable has arrived and I will pull the maps off and do some logging in the next few days.

It was apparently mapped at Emerald last year and the guy there is supposed to know his stuff, it has 3 maps and they are definitely different so doesn't seem to be defaulting to something basic.

    Thanks in advance

  3. Hi All, just picked up a Rado VRT (pics to follow) a question for all you FI guys, what should the AFR reading be at idle? mines between 12.2 and 12.6 and smells very rich, it runs on an Emerald K3 ECU.

the temp gauge doesnt work very well so first mission is new Stat, housing and both a 4 pin (to gauge) and 2 pin to ECU water temp sensors.

i am in the process of getting an RS232 cable so i can plug into a laptop has anyone got any tips?

here is original link for sale

  4. Hi all, need some Rado owners input. Pete isn't taking pm's. My golf VR is looking untidy now (not my fault!) so got my eye on a sweet, highly modded Rado. Don't need a daily anymore, so going to break mine.

My main question is what to expect driving wise? Compared to the golf, what am I expecting?

    All comments welcome.

    Cheers

  5. Hi all, I know this is out there if I looked but I'm time limited (fitting Friday). Putting mk4 rear calipers on the VR its a late P plate, will I need to change the pipes? I believe yes but wanted to confirm with the guru's as I wasn't sure if later VR's already had banjos?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. hi mate, the wire is probably to the siren (if it has one) and there would also be a bonnet trigger (little plunger on front panel) for the alarm as well. i have found this link that has the wiring diagram

    http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/topic/96661-cobra-3190-wiring/

what numbers are the red and white wires hiding? 3?9?

from the diagram the green wire on the mono block looks like its the engine stop you will need to bridge this possibly to the 12V in. I'm sorry im not an alarm fitter ;-)

the only other way will be to follow the monoblock wires to the original loom and reinstate.

apparently these models have trouble and need re-synching occasionally so i would check that first before chopping wires.

here is link to the some of the install documentation http://bisalarmes.com/fichas/manuaiscobra/instala_3100.pdf,

to reprogram keys you need the PIN, i would take the serial number and email for PIN (Cobra is now Vodafone automotive,

    http://automotive.vodafone.co.uk/about-vodafone-automotive/email.aspx)

the humming is likely to be the secondary water pump which means with the dash lights that you have ignition power.

  7. lower compression for turbo\supercharger,

if its a daily driver why not get a cheap engine from fleabay to charge and swap when your ready?

there is a turbo engine with all the bits for sale on here at the moment.

the basic answer is yes you can run low comp pistons on N\A, just dont expect it to go anywhere very quickly!

    good luck

  8. Hi Mate, had the same with mine after a gearbox swap. see here

    http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/how-to-adjust-your-vw-and-audi-manual-shifter-cables/

i would suggest its a 2 person job, 1 to adjust and 1 to check the gears as otherwise your will be jumping in and out of the car as even a mm makes a big difference, hopefully its just a loose bolt and you should be able to see where it was sat originally.

    good luck
