The heater matrix saga continues, I really think this car just isn't meant to be. I managed to get a lift today to try and get another new matrix, went to VW first but with a price of £171.50 I swiftly left there and went to euro car parts. They said they had one in stock then left me standing there for 20 minutes only to then say oh actually no we haven't! So I thought sod it back to gsf where they had one but said it will be the same as the one that didn't fit, it wasn't so they said the first one I got must have been the wrong part but I can't return it as the fins are damaged where I trie

The one I removed was valeo, I think the cheaper option at gsf is valeo the hella behr one was £47 which is what makes it so much more annoying that it doesn't fit EDIT I think I'm wrong the only valeo one I can find for sale online is £67!

Well I haven't looked at the underneath or even taken the wheels off yet so there's probably dodgy floor repairs or lower arms held of with cable ties or something.
-
This one is different the plastic part at the base is actually holding the water in and the resulting metal around it to hold it on makes it to big for the hole.
-
The matrix is a hella behr one so genuine, there's a metal bit at the bottom which is too big for the the hole the core itself fits just the bit at the top and base are slightly to big to go in. I have thought about getting another car but I will never finish this if I do as I would just start modding the daily it's happened before lol Tell me about it, it's only going to get worse the more I dig aswell I fear.

I was looking forward to warmth lol hopefully I can get a matrix that fits properly and it all goes back together nicely as it's treading on very thin ice at the moment I really annoyed with it. It's definitely cursed! I haven't even looked underneath it yet, not sure I dare to be honest. I definitely won't feel better about it tomorrow as I'm walking to work. If the matrix fitted then the dash would probably be back in now and I would be slightly happier. Would be nice to do some modding instead of fixing it all the time and correcting bodges.

I'm halfway through changing a leaky matrix on my vento vr6 and the new matrix doesn't fit in the hole! I bought an expensive hella behr one to try and future proof it and it is too big for the hole, it's real tight and even once I managed to force it in it doesn't seat at the top. I'm going to cut my losses and go get another so can somebody recommend where to get one that will slide in nicely and seal at the top? Cheers

had a terrible weekend with this car once again nothing is going rite so.... IF ANYBODY WANTS IT FOR A DONER CAR OR WHATEVER MAKE ME AN OFFER! I have spent the weekend trying to change the heater matrix and it hasn't gone well as per usual with this car! After a couple hours messing about with it yesterday I got to this point Up to that point things were going well but then it came to actually getting the matrix out where it all started to go wrong! I left it as it started to get dark and continued today. The knee bar was in the way so I couldn't pull the heater box back far enough so I undid

I've always loved saying that place, fakenham! It may be worth a shot but these splits have splined bolts which makes them an asshole to do apparently. Pristine wheels said they were a bugger when they were new let alone when old and corroded.

Boring parts collection update, for my future reference more than anything lol Some people may not think its worth it but because of this... I have bought this Which annoyingly came with an upper glove box, annoying because I bought one last week to replace my airbag I also got this to replace the bodged warning lights and clips to replace cable ties on heater cables OEM heater matrix rad and pollen filter I guess that means dash out this weekend, I have run out of excuses to put it off now. It will be nice to have a heater! These also arrived today for my wheels, gold bolts and zinc nuts
-
I think it would need to be a totally different car before that happened lol

I decided today to take the passenger air bag and lower glovebox off so I could investigate what is going on with my heater controls, I ended up removing all the vents etc in perpetration to take the dash out weekend. I also put a resister into the plug for the passenger airbag so I can replace it with a glove box. Now with literally everything I touch on this car unsurprisingly I found bodges! Firstly I took the airbag and glove box off, can you spot the first problem Yep there's one of the heater cables not going to anything lol I haven't found where it goes yet Here's the other one that c

Personally for me I would first speak to the person who I intend to use for mapping it as they will give you a good idea of what kind of specs work in their experience.

Wow that's so clean!
-
It's good news in a way how bad ventos seem to rot as we will own extremely rare cars soon lol
-
People do say green cars are bad luck but I think this is top of the tree is definitely cursed, I think I need to change the thread title to the omen lol
-
You've got your work cut out for you there!
-
Awesome stuff! Really great work your doing on this it's superb!

My mate showed me inside the cap on his 8v gti mk4 and it's much worse than mine he rekons it's to do with the crappy seal on the cap and blocked breathers
-
Nope no mayo on the dipstick Yeah I live in towcester
-
To be honest I can't be bothered with the hassle I'm just going to bite the bullet and get them sorted. Well pristine wheels said no way we aren't touching them lol Luckily there's a guy in Northampton who is shit hot and cheap so he is sorting it for me.

I don't thing the headgasket is gone now after talking to few people about it. BUT the good news doesn't last long! Just went to get the tyres fitted to my bbs only to find out all 4 are square, properly buckled can't fit them! They are so bent that if I didn't pay 300 odd quid for them I would find it hilarious it's crazy.
-
Just found this, bugger If the headgasket is gone I think I will get a 2.9 put in there as it needs chains and a gearbox aswell really so would probably be cheaper. On the plus side (plus side being rare with this car) these arrived today So at least I can get my wheels fitted
-
I think I may tackle it this weekend I'm just not that motivated with it at the moment, I also love ventos but not this one currently lol

Nice project! Seems a shame about the vento as there aren't many left, will you be putting the vento front on the golf?
