  1. I didnt think so either, just made another call. When i had the mot done the other day, the man done what i think is a sniffer test, he used the emission computer over the coolent, got me to rev the engine and said that all seemed ok? Could valve seals cause low compression and powerless running?? Dont want to spend more money for it to turn even more sour,. the man at the garage im going to on monday said he doubts the head gasket but wil do a leakedge?? test?? A cracked head wouldnt affect three cylinders would it?? Sorry for so many ?'s, but im very worried my car is going to be a no go'er
  2. this i s what im hoping its between. i know parts for each job are aroung 100, whats labour time like on these jobs, as for the head gasket one man said he wouldnt do it as the gearbox has to come off or something, is this true?
  3. Had my car down the vw dealers today, Diagnosing it. Basically all electrical side of things are cool, other than a small split in the dizzy cap, so they moved on to a compression check, :sick: 2,4 and 6 are all low on compression :sick: Here is roughly how my print out looks 1; //////////////// 16 bar 2; ////// 11.8 bar 3; /////////////// 15.6 bar 4; /// 9.5 bar 5; /////////////// 15.5 bar 6; /////// 12.9 bar Apparently plugs 2 and six where fouled up badly (only changed 200 miles ago) and plug 4 had some white residue on it. so with them stmptoms a
  4. Well the car is in vw at the moment and they have just called to say they cant find any problems with the ignition etc etc, or faults. have not got a list of fault codes yet tho. The only thing they have told me as yet really is that they are moving on to a compression test. Dont know what to do from here or what to think, Surely it can only be omething big and costly?? EDIT: could it still be the maf, someone please let me know.
  5. gav_vr6, how did you manage to find out it was this? Did you have a missfire through out the range and a splutter? Help appreciated, as im going to pay to have it diagnosed tomorrow and want to order parts. thanks P.s does any one know if there is any way to tell if this has gone, Probably not but might as well see.
  6. Yeah a fair bit, its annoying me to be honest. I havent stopped reading up and am starting to worry about a head gasket, i can magine its not this, just so desperate to get on the road. plus i have no residue on the filler cap, couldnt really tell if there was oil in the coolant tank, looked a bit murky, but when i took a little out it seems ok, smelt a bit rough, but thats it.

  8. yeah it does need servce, but surely would not cause it to run like this. took it for a longer drive today and it didnt clear up at all, very flat through the rev range, yu can feel that it should be putting you back, it just isnt. going to get it on vag.com tommorow. Well not sure if what they have is vag.com but the have a diagnostics kit.

Can i ask with this fault did your emisions smell sweet ()due to the overfueling) and the car not feel as fast as it should? having problems with my car and the previouse owner said the car was overfueling. probally the same problem.   11. this has gone on both my golfs, my 1.6 and my vr, rather annopying, seems to go at the bottom of the housing. going to do it this weekend tho, Looks easy but msybe a bit fiddly
  12. Hey people finally got the money to get my vr on the road, but have a few ?'s. I posted on another site so i will copy and paste and see if i can also get some help here. i took my vr6 foir a little drive today and it really doesnt feel like what i thought it should. Its a 1992 k reg vr6, its covered 87923 miles, paperwork to prove its genuine. The thing is that when i have taken it for a little drive to see what its like its very hesitant, does not feel much faster than my 100bhp 1.6. the power does not feel like its the smoothest or the most potent, however you can feel the power as the c

Hey there, as nice as that is of you and as much as i would lve too, i cant make it to there im afraid, I currently have not got insurance in the car and nore is it taxed, I was going to insure it but due to the price i thought i might as well spend my money getting it running right first then insure. No point in driving it untill then!! Generally it needs a fair bit of body work too, but that could wait. Like i say its a very nice offer, just wouldnt be able to get it to you. ;-( . regards.
  15. Hey im in welwyn garden city, next to hatfield. the diagnostic thing would be good, would be willing to pay a little if someone was to come out of there way. I have the vag.com software but not the lead, the only leads i can find are ones for the ob2 and i would imagine mine is obd1 being a from 92. Thanks again, and all help appreciatd.
  16. Hi everyone, been browsing the forum alot recently so thought id join and ask a few ?'s. So i went to look at a vr6 yesterday, k plate 87000miles, service history, 4 months ticket but no tax. got it for £450. Had a test drive and it was only running on 4 cylinders (i think), very rough, very lumpy not much guts at all. Got it back to the persons house realised a ht lead was not on properly, pushed it back on, it run sweet, but Didnt bother to take it out again. start driving home, all is ok i suppose but it felt a little bit rough still.
