i just done the coil pack plugs and leads first time ever in about an hour and that included feckering about with the plug leads coz i aint got round to sorting out a plug lead tool, i have minor mechanical knowledge but aint afraid to have a go, paid 115 including the vat for my coil pack from allparts motor factors, they got an add in PVW and other mags as VOLKSPARES, do it urself its cheaper than probably and extra 100 for a grease monkey to do it

was hoping someone near to croydon (anyone?) would be kind enough to donate the one they have sitting in the garage for an emergency to me for a sensible price both ways lol. either that or i'll go german and swedish tomorro and get the whole lot just to play it safe, ive done nearly 200 on a new cat and new lamba so another few quid wont hurt (he says with a tear rolling down his cheek), just checked the gsf catalogue and looks like i'll be looking at about 180 if they get all the parts in stock :-(

folks, ive changed the cat and the lamba sensor to be safe as the old one is well and truley stuck in the old cat and is probably knackered because the cat was glowing, but its still doing it, if i start the car it runs propper lumpy and sort of idles lumpy at 900rpm when cold, and ive noticed if i pull off the 2 middle leads attatched to the coil pack thingy (obd1 93 kreg) on the side of the engine its exactly the same still lumpy cold idle at 900rpm, is it the coil pack? if so is there anyone in or near croydon that has one plus poss plugs n leads to be safe pls pls get in touch, i got cash

mine pops and bangs like a goodun, but then i have put a centre box bypass pipe on and a non baffled back box, so guess that would explain it, lol

called stealth racing today and the guys i spoke to used the term 'cat meltdown' lol, got a new one ready to go on tonight just hope it isnt something else causing it to spit unburnt fuel into the cat hence buggering the cat. mk1dubster-that wouldnt be eurotek that used to be at pini's would it?

guys (and gals) i got a wee prob with my beast, after a rather spirited drive back from portsmouth tonight and a sprint or 2 against a jag and a bmw my car developed a strange fault, the cat was glowing red and i lost atleast 80% of my power, and had a really loud and burbling exhaust note coming out the back box, after stopping for 2 mins to have a look i set off again with the same prob but after about half a mile it stopped and returned to normal, then about a mile from home (another 1/2 mile later) it started again, stupid question but is it the cat or is something more sinister going on?

ok thats a releif, im sure it was in my owners instruction manual that i read it, i wanna change the oil anyway and will prob flush the oil cooler clean with some cheap oil to ensure its not choked up or nothing while im at it
-
can anyone tell me what the correct oil temp for my vr is supposed to be, i remember reading somewhere that its suppsoed to be low 80's but mine is low 90's would that make a difference or am i being a plum?
-
hey guys just after a bit of advice, after getting a second hand boz fitted i wanna play things safe and change the oil in it as the oil in the one that blew was nearly black and really smelled like crude oil. how do i empty my box then refill it and check the levels? also what grade oil should i use, would i be better of using a decent synthetic jobbie or race grade oil as i drive the car quiet hard when i do get to use it

well the 22 quid in halfords for the clay kit is crtainly a lot better than coughing up the grand or so for a same colour re-spray thats for sure. will give that a try, thanks for the advice, will update when ive had a go at it, ive downloaded a couple of detailers hand books to read through just to make sure i understand all there is to know about using it, will just have to wait and see now
-
was thinking of that, is the miguiers clay kit anygood?

when im waxing/polishing my car i get this type of effect in the paint not sure what the little dots are but it looks like the stuff im using is getting caught on them then spread out into the little points you see, does any of this make sense? and if so how do i get rid of it? its doing my head in, the dots are in no particular pattern but are probably 3rd of a mm to half a mm in size and there thousands of them all over the place, ive probably tried about 90% of the different polish's and t-cut type products in halfords and lots of different microfibre and polishing cloths but nothing is wor

it sounds like your belt is slipping which is causing the squell and the crack in the dizzy is probably the cause of the car mis firing but your best bet is to replace the dizzy cap rotor arm and leads as you probably dont know how long they have been on the car for and either of them could be breaking down. the groaning im not to sure about but if you can feel it through the gear stick it could well be a mount of some sort as it sounds like a rubber bush moving around. if none of this is any help then my apologies i'll shut my pie hole :-| -
update!!! box went in without a hitch, slightly scarred up the releage bearing case and the face of the pressure plate but it got me home safe and well, now im just waiting till i got time to change the fluids in the box and clutch lines, only one small niggle, the box seems to clunk into the gears, could this be a slightly mis aligned linkage or is it just me? i mean it aint crunching or grinding, just kinda feels like a deisal box like when you change gear it finds the gear then slots in, kinda stops then goes in, i dont have to force it in either. have i bought a melon of a box?

for once a meet thats sort of near me, shame im bloody working this weekend, typical aint it, lol. oh well have fun guys

when i was lucky enough to purchase my first dub i was also unlucky that i could only afford a 1.6 driver, how much harder would it be to put the mighty 6 into this instead of a gti? if and when my mk2 is ready for an engine i will be buying a complete mk3 golf vr6 for parts, and also poss using a small 5 or 6 gallon fuel cell located in what was the boot rear floor area instead of the standard tank for weight reasons.

!!!!update!!!! good news paid 235 inc vat for a ccm code gear box picking it up tomorrow and gotta pay 282 to get it fitted wednesday, fingers crossed i didnt damage anything else. and vodka drinker- they would charge a nut busting price to haul my car back to london. but with any luck ive only done the box so can get home wedneday night only losing 3 days wages and the cost of getting the car fixed, all for the price of breakdown cover im gunna be about a grand out of pocket by the time i get home. and another thig is after talking toa few grease monkey's down here ive been told that the box

ive got somewhere to stay and somewhere near by to fit it for a rasonable price, just gotta find one. ive put a wanted thing on 1st choice.co.uk and they e-maill/contact virtually every decent breaker in the country, ive found one at stevens vw breakers in essex for a semi sensible price but am going to exhaust all possible choices in portsmouth first. as for the aa, how many times have you thought abot it pick up leaflets and thought nah i'll be ok, well thats what happened to me, i been looking around for a good policy that will do everything i want without costing me a small fortune. troubl
