  1. Looking for some help and experiece :-)..... My 120K VR has recently developed a serious thirst for oil and im starting to hear noises from the direction of the timing chain cover when starting up from cold, so ive decided that it may well be time for the old girl to have a rebuild. Has anyone here ever attempted to do a home build on one of these engines ? what manuals are available/would you reccomend ? Where would I best be buying engine parts (rings, pistons, seals etc) ? Any helpful tips ? I know of a local engineering shop that is capable of doing the machining necessary, but im toying
  2. Eaton themselves only rate this charger up to 2500cc, so you'd need an M62 anyway There are established kits out there, so dont waste time trying to make your own
  3. FK Angels What I hope to get when I can afford them
  4. !lol That would be the same as the the nice silver "1.6" Mk4 I overtook on the Lamberhurst Bypass yesterday then... expecting an easy scalp was I.. till I tried to pass :? Got passed in the end, but he paced me to a rather silly speed - 1600 my ass ! If Mr Silver Mk4 is reading - just what are you packing in there ? lol
  5. As to spark plugs.. the best place ive seen is eurocarparts , very reasonable.... I have a set of Bosch 4 electrode copper core plugs to fit in mine, but im not sure of the serial number ? I'll have to find out
  6. Im dealing with a gent who makes bespoke lead sets in 10mm Race grade carbo-silicone leads, as I need a set for my XR4x4 Turbo technics - and he'll supply them for just
  7. K&N will give U a little, but useful boost.. but DONT drill the airbox !! All drilled airboxes do is suck hot air from the engine bay and due to the laws of thermodynamics.. you'll see a power DROP ... you need dense, cool air, so you'll need to add a cold air feed from the outside of the car. The usual method for this involves collecting air from the front bumper and bringing it to the airbox via a flexible tube (the thin alloy flexy normally)... I'd strongly reccomend loosing the airbox tho and going for a cone filter, again with a cold air ram feed... the sound from it is so totally a
  8. Just turned 112K on mine, and its still silent .. im going for the 268' cams tho and changing the chain at the same time 6 pots are easily capable of 250K+ milages if looked after
  9. On the subject of parts... Ive always used generic stuff.. especially as so much OEM stuff is outsourced to the same companies and just gets an OEM box with a +30% price tag.... FOr instance... when I buy oil.. its the API standard I buy, not the name
  10. I think ive seen this bloke selling his cams on ebay - ive mentioned it before in a previous post Compared to piper or kents prices for reground cams, his offer of non exchange new billet cams was pretty amazing - at least
  11. I got round to fitting a cone filter to mine this weekend, and can deffinately say the response is a lot better but... The sound :D :D :D....... Fuel being this expensive is gonna bankrupt me in a few weeks ! lol
  12. The police tend to be reasonable about fonts provided you dont go for something stupid and completely illegible.... Stopping you to give you a friendly warning that your plates arent readable is a waste of ther time - they could be putting a new film in the gatso down the road instead.... ~
  13. Thanks for that guys Ive got to get my chains done sometime soon (111 K), so I was toying with ideas about what I could do with the engine - so far Ive come up with possibly having the head flowed, chip of some sort and a pair of these.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/268-DEGREE-CAMS-FOR-VW-VR6-GTI-GOLF-camshafts-cam_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33614QQitemZ7992066469QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD2V Coupled to induction and a cat replacement system, im hoping to see around 210-220 BHP mark with good reliability. If I can ever afford the money for the charger.. should be in 300 BHP territory
  14. I was looking at the specs for the R32 golf on the net the other day, and had a few thoughts about it.... Anybody know how far, practically, the 2.8 AAA engine can be bored and stroked ? And what sort of power can be seen from N/A tuning as opposed to forced induction ? Just wondered if 32'ish power is accheivable from this engine ?
  15. Greenlight are good, but watch it if you have big mods - they wont give agreed values (says so on their front page, + a dozen places in the small print)
  16. Halogen H4' single filament, Id warrant a guess at
  17. you can buy universal full closure modules from deemon tweeks, so if it doesnt have a closure module on the roof, you can retrofit one
  18. Just a point folks..... The kit fourmotion has linked to looks like it could be a mega bargain - have a look in the sellers other items ! He's offering the induction tube for $21.95 buy it now (thats

  20. Agree with Nerih.. Vento FE doesnt look quite right on the golf IMO - I'd go for standard FE with morrettes
  21. depends on what? the answer to the question is yes! You'll have to forgive my ignorance all my ABS experience is based around the Teeves Electromechanical system, where the brake pedal connects directly into the ABS pump/controller - no servo unit involved I relised the VR6 does when I opened my bonnet this morning
  22. Clucking bell !! http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0837612519/qid%3D1122926246/026-6841048-8202040 it better be printed on gold leaf for that !
  23. Depends.... Some ABS systems just have a pump assembly...
