If its blue - more than likely valve stem oil seals, or valve guides. not likely but piston rings are possible (unlikely unless constant blue smoke) I got quoted around 200 quid + plus parts to replace the seals. White smoke isnt good news
hmmmm dont recall any of my mk3's having a VIN plate on the slam panel. Maybe my memory though- My new one certainly hasnt. And its the original slam panel. (I hope!)
Yeah i can do that- meeting up with cliveyp and geastb hopefully cos im going Sunday. I think Vdubgirl, VR6Rich and Dubloke are heading Saturday for a night of hardcore drinking
how much? thing is i would have to take it off and be without the manifold for a little bit- if i do it my self i can do it bit by bit. (an hour a week for a year )
BTW Binliner- that looks lovely- tell me how please!!!!!! Where to are you looking for the VIN, is it the suspension turret? Ill have to check mine- never really bothered to check!
I read on another site, that synthetic unlike semi or mineral acts as a detergent and over time removes built up sludge deposited- this can sometimes be ok- however on higher mileage cars (and a car youve bought you dont know the history of) its probably not such a good idea as cleaning the sludge can create unwanted tolerances which mean oil leaks etc. Went to a VW/Audi garage recently after buying my car and they advised me to perform an engine flush- didnt think that was sound advice....
Binliner- How did you do it? What tools do i need? How long did it take? Ill probably attempt it over time. Eat this- you could still sort it- if thats your engine in your avatar
Whats involved in polishing the inlet manifold? I would like to do this myself, but not sure if its that easy. :? Anyone here done this themselves? What tools did you use? cheers.
Ive just put castrol RS fully sythetic 0w 40 in mine. Starting to get a little edgey about having done this. Thinking about performing a premature oil change to semi 10w 40. Any thoughts guys and girls?
Im very confused, i thought my old 96 car was indian red, but it looked slighty more maroon than yours..hhhmmmmmm Make a hell of a difference slammed as well! By the way GLC are cool- i used to live in Caerphilly- not far from Newport. you knows it!
Nice VR mate, not too sure about the Chavalier next to it! The VR looks familiar, has it been in a mag at some point? Has that chavalier (lol) got a burberry paint job???? nice. safe as f*ck!
On the Sunday- ive just seen your thread about going up the night before- i would love to but im a bit skint cos of xmas. If you and vdubgirl end up going Sunday ill be well happy cruisin up in convoy....
Binliners on to something. A nice set of merc AMG style rims- very nice!! look well nice polished up. I think in Performance VW theyve just put a set on their resident mk IV.
