  1. Jesus Warren that Saab is crazy!! I'm surprised it didn't pop! Mind you, when it's running up on the rollers you can see smoke blowing by the camera and it's not from the tyres!
  2. Guys the 325ti is not turbo charged, jeepers if it was it would be producing slightly more than 193bhp! The 'ti' stands for 'Touring Internationale' It would be great to charge one though! I know Hartge have just dropped an M5 engine in a 1 Series, should be interesing! I reckon a sorted VR would certianly do a standing quarter quicker than a steptronic Compact no matter which one it is.
  3. Answer is to race a bug eyed Scooby if it only pulls away from you SLOWLY (if at all) you've got a good'un. I raced a 5 door, brand spanking new Golf GTI a few months back, and stayed with that all the way along the ring road in Leeds. Or a 325i Coupe Beemer you should stay with or go by! Of course, this should only be done on a track!
  4. Which car are we actually looking at here mate?
  5. Wouldn't be liking parking in that carpark mate, door dents!!! Can you enlighten me with the plate fella, have you had any tugs with it? Looks lovely mate.
  6. Fair play to the guy for picking it up for you mate. I hope he gives it back to you!
  7. I bought some RH's last year and I'm not too happy with the centre caps. Since the winter they have started to go slightly cloudy. I dont use acid based cleaner on them and I keep them spotless. I've been on to the company that shipped the wheels over for me but he's pissing me off a bit. Any ideas where I can get some replacements or some tasty Porsche ones from?
  8. Very nice mate. Justin, didn't you have a set like that on yours for a bit?
  9. I'd deffo recommend a mop and bar set from Frost. Be prepaired to burn out a drill or two though mate and dont be scared to use it hard! I'll get some pics of mine up once its back from the re-build.
  10. All left hookers though. I've checked out quite a few Lotus Carltons and alot of them have megga miles on them not to mention the price! Warren, I really wish I could get my head around driving a left hand drive car as I'm really missing out! I drove a left hand drive Jeep in Corfu for the first time last year and it wasn't too bad as it was on the right side (or left so too speak) of the road but must be wierd over here. What a monster though
  11. It's a GO not sure if its a 300 or 400 mate, I'll have to charge it and have a look, I didn't buy it new. It does work a treat and I do use it when I need to see a new client as I still don't know Leeds all that well. Don't really want to sell it tbh but needs must!
  12. I got bloody neck ache doing it as well!! Then I cracked it pratting about putting it back on!
  13. Justin, I saw that bad boy on Top Gear, Stig man drove it like it was stolen!! You can buy a road going version thats de-tuned slightly and looks just the same if I recall correctly. Sounded like nothing on this planet on the limiter, beautiful, just beautiful.
  14. Hi Chris, I have been out in both a Cavalier 4x4 Turbo and Calibra Turbo and can honestly say thay are bloody quick! Don't forget the Police used Cavalier 4x4 Turbos for a while. Running rear in the 4x4 isn't too reliable apparently. I used to know a guy who had one and he spent a forture at Courtney getting it tuned, to be honest it didn't make that much difference. If your going to get one unless its tuned it wont really be much quicker than a VR because of the 4x4 running gear that saps all the power. If you really want BIG HP, your going to deffo need a copper head gasket or wire ringed b
  15. I have a TomTom mate, considering selling it if your interested. Cheap like the canary maybe?!! I need as much cash I can get my hands on for my engine re-build. P.M me if your interested.
  16. Mate, it's an absolute ball ache to do and it will turn out a mess if you slip even once on a letter. I did it to mine and I wasn't happy with it, so, I took it off and polished my inlet manifold. If you're gonna do it, take it off, this means removing all the plastic around it. You could use enamel model paint or buy a tin of red from halfords and spray some in a lid and use a brush. Hope this helps. J
  17. I know where your comming from mate and yes it is each to their own. Being a designer I'm a subtle modder and removing my rear wash wipe would be a major asthetic issue to overcome! Plastic arches were erradicated on the newer VRs anyway and the bumpers were also colour coded as I'm sure you know. I've never been a fan of over flared arches, ultra wide 15inch rims with spacers that make a car look like an old hotwheels toy. But this is a full on euro look and its a cult style, just like art movements. Body mods have always been an issue for me but thats my taste, I hate some modern art and I l
  18. I wasn't sure if a larger bore needed a different crank? !dodge
  19. OK guys, the VR is having a rebore and I am no engineer so before I ask my garage how much I can overbore I'd like to throw the question to the guys who are in the know. I know the R32 lump has not only a larger bore but longer stroke (throw) on the crank to increase the capacity but is this the case with the 2.9 lump? Can I just have my lump bored out to 2.9 and buy bigger pistons (don't know what size) on a my stock crank shaft, will I also need different conrods? If not, how big can I go and retain reliability? There is a nuts ABT crank on ebay at the moment thats worth a fortune, all light
  20. It's funny really, you will notice that all the higher mileage VRs run sweet as a nut with no problems as the majority have been motorway cars or used regularly. I'm not saying all low mileage ones wil have problems but it's something to think about. I once knew a guy who had an Shelby Cobra replica with a V12 Jag engine and he only ever used it in the summer, he came to use it one year and the rings had rusted to the bore, completely screwing the engine! He hadn't winterised it correctly or ran it up every now and then even though it was garaged.
  21. When I bought my VR a couple of years ago I was over the moon as it only had 50k on the clock but this has prooved to be a real problem. Alot of you are aware I have had a smoking on the overrun issue develop over the last few months and initially it showed all the signs of valve stem oil seals and guides being worn. I guessed it was worth getting it sorted and just before xmas I had the head recon'd fully at a cost of 700 notes (note that guides and seals were quite worn). Whilst the head was off I had a compression test done, this was achieved by putting all 6 cylinders in a central position
  22. You do need to be carefull with doing that, it can distort the metal and pop out. Not the best way to do it I believe.
  23. Thing is mate, if you get it wrong you have noone to blame but yourself and your landed with a BIG paint bill to put it right! I had mine done professionally whilst I was having paint work done, a week later I bottomed out the suspension and it pulled out the bottom of the arch by the cill (real mess!). I went back and he put it right for me for no charge as he said he hadn't rolled it far enough. For the grief mate, I'd get it done by a body shop, for piece of mind. On the other hand, if you do have plastic arches, it'll cover up a mess if you make one!!
  24. Fookin hell mate, your gonna die!!!! Death wish maybe! hehehe
