£50 difference? Blimey. Currently mines £1250 - paid in 1 payment - ouch otherwise i would have had to pay a % charge for installments! I've come to the conclusion that the VR6 doesnt feel as fast as i thought it would because after my GTi i was running around in a Volvo T5, and trust me that car was quick - in a straightline of course... Also a lot of the time i'm driving my dads 535i Sport - V8 power in Manual transmission!! I guess that doesnt help the VR's cause! [ Edited Wed Jun 23 2004, 03:54PM ]

"six appeal" i want your wheels mate! OR we could just swap cars, think about it.... 174bhp....

Andy the A404 is normally quite busy as i hit the M40 roundabout in high wycombe but before that from maidenhead its pretty clear. Dont get me wrong - its quick, just doesnt feel that quick? Also i apologise to all you other Vr6 owners if i'm sounding negative about the car. Just maybe i expected more. My brother also has a MK3 GTi and the first time he drove my VR6 he said he was surprised i had got a VR6 considering the higher insurance and fuel costs didnt justify the difference in performance from a GTi... left me feeling a bit gutted after that. He said he was also thinking of getting o

Also "six appeal" where abouts in Berkshire you from? I think i may have seen your car in High Wycombe recently? BTW thats one fine looking sixer. [ Edited Wed Jun 23 2004, 10:05AM ]

Andy, in a strange sort of way your right about changing light bulbs and then going back to dimmer ones... I've been driving around recently in my company Focus (1.6 Zetec). After a week in that in manchester i came back this weekend and was aching to get into the VR and have a blast down the road. And it felt like i was driving some one elses VR6 because of the power difference. Obviously big diff between 1.6 AND 2.8. However i also realised how shite the handling of the VR is. Although having said that, i'm much more interested in straight line power as most of my driving is on dual carriage

Dont worry i havent given up on the old girl just yet. Going to give it another month or two then see what happens.

Andy, are you accusing me of not being able to drive?!!! I like driving and love nothing better than revving the VR. On the way to work this morning i was changing from 2nd to 3rd at about 6000RPM.....and so on. However thats not really my issue. My issue is that they just seem to be slightly underpowered for what they are. The BMW puts out about 192 bhp standard. The VR has a rep but i dont really feel its justified... yet. Let me know when the next meet is and i'd love to experience the Shrick. But then thats the point, your having to add a shrick to use the power. My mates got an E46 330C

Boy boys boys. Calm down. I dont know why but my old Golf GTi was very quick. It didnt sound normal (sounded really beefy with a slight whizz sound) but it was standard. Sometimes you get somthing you shouldnt get rid off. Unfortunately for some strange reason still unknown to me i ended up selling it... complete with my ALPINE I.C.E! Anyway... I'm not saying that the Vr6's arent any good... just i think they are a bit overrated, hence why almost all the peep on here have modified the engine in some form. I thought it was just mine to begin with but having had it given the green light i know

Chaps, i'm not being dumb or anything but i've never really been into tuning and dont really have a clue as to what i should be doing to my standard VR to give it some much needed exta oomph ( to justify the expensive insurance and fuel costs!). My previous motor was a MK3 GTi 8V !heart It didnt need anything doing as it went well enough (even though it was standard). Maybe my expectations were too much and therefore now sometimes i'm a bit disappointed in the performance of my VR6. I've had it checked out and everything is running fine. So now its time to make some changes. The thing i

jesus, you boys spend more money on the car than the cars worth! I've tried selling my 97 VR6 for £4k and wont even get a phone call!! And here you lot are spending £2k or so on a charger!!! Mind you i'm sure it will be "fun" to drive afterwards. I guess i'm just annoyed i have no disposal income now that i've bought my own house and have to drive a bog standard 172bhp. Was thinking of getting a sport coil set but dont know enough about them... any advice?

Finally had my VR re-mapped at Stealth with AMD....
kobi replied to jcorallo's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
how much does all this cost?? -
So which one is best?........

You still got your exhaust for sale? I've got a 97 Vr6, i assume it would just pop on? It's the back box right?
-
Just read a thread on a chip for the VR. How much are they and where would one go to get it done? I've heard the name Stealth mentioned a few times. Has anyone had any problems with chipping the car? Surely if your reconfigurating the engine system there will be some kind of downside?? Sorry i'm not that technical. I just like to drive.

It was a 150bhp Diesel. And the sound was dreadful.. didnt want to putmy foot down as i didnt want everyone walking down the street to turn round and look at the car that sounded like a tractor. The curpra R i drove was only 6 months old. But even then.. it was run in and basically... i wasnt impressed... i think the VR6 is slightly overrated but no way would the Diesel embarras the VR6...except with MPG figures of course.
-
Yeeha... ur taking the p1ss?? I've had a Leon Cupra R TDI 150BHP for a weekend from work and whilst they may be brilliant on mpg... they aint nothing on performance. These are the same engines found in the GOLF GT TDI. I always assumed they would be quick but i was disappointed. Definately didnt make me want to go out and get a diesel!

Anyways i got some Silver Synta from VW DEALER. Only cost £15 for 5 litres in comparison to Mobil 1- Tht makes it a bargain but i only hope it's as good as Mobil 1 & Magnatec.

What i want is a quick reliable car, dont mind paying for petrol if i'm using the engine. But dont want to be shelling out £40 just to get 190 miles out of the tank whilst driving like miss daisy! Also my mate has a BMW 330 CI AC Schnitzer and even that averages about 30mpg! After my MK3 GTI i went out and bought a Volvo T5 (dont ask) and those things will blast the pants off a VR6 or almost any other car. I had 3 passengers once and a Boxster couldnt get past me on a dual carriage way (Andy - The one from Bray to the M4)... but the handling was shite and it was toooo big. But must admit it wa

Anyone know of a decent induction kit? [ Edited Thu Jun 03 2004, 10:52AM ]

mmmmm..... might just save up and get an M3! [ Edited Thu Jun 03 2004, 10:41AM ]

Only problem with keeping the revs above 4000rpm is that the tank of petrol will only last 100 miles instead of the 190 its giving me at the moment!!

I have a totally standard VR6 (1997). The performance is adequate but sometimes i feel like the weight of the engine delays the rush of power.... like in some gears it seems to take a while for the engine to wake up. Guess thats just a nature of a 6 pot? Anyway the engine is sound mechanically so i know its not suffering from any problems. I want to start tuning it up but want some advice. I'm not going to change the appearance of the car as to be honest they look pretty boring and in a way this adds to the sleath appeal of the engine. I've heard a bit about the Shrick(?) i can add on, co

Think i'll go back to getting a GTi, not as quickas the VR6 but not as quick to bankrupt you either! [ Edited Tue Jun 01 2004, 03:25PM ]

I've only had the car for 3 weeks, I love the engine but am thinking of selling it as 23mpg is a bit stupid for a golf, worse than a bloody Jag XJR 4.0 Litre!! Its a 1997 done 80k with history and is mystic Blue, mint through out and totally standard, still has the Original mud flaps. £4300 if anyone interested?!!

thanks for the advice chaps. Also my VR6 is drinkin fuel like a fish. Its only doing about 190miles on a full tank! The diagnostics were recently checked and the car came out almost 100% clear. I'm not even driving like a hooligan!!
