  1. man, what is it with these mechanics...its not like the vr6 is a particularly complex engine really. this is why i started doing stuff myself, at least i do it right.
  2. i think antera will be having the most fun this summer with his vr cabrio.
  3. i know....think thats the worst bit! maybe i should record a vr6, put it on a cd, then put it in the cd palyer of the mr2 and turn it up loud! lol
  4. unplug the wiring from the motor, and then run a direct feed off a battery to the connections on the motor...if you do ti the right way round the window wil either go up (proving a wiring/switch fault), or won't do anything (proving the motor has had it)
  5. sometimes it takes a few cleans to get it perfect...clean the tb aws well whilst you're there.
  6. its barely gonna be touched pete...clear indicators and colour coding side trim is the only thing i'm doin to it....thats what i was after, a standard car that is fun in corners. its a tad slower in straight line than a vr6...but i don't care as 'fun is not a straight line' lol
  7. i think the market is slow at the mo....though has to be said most people don't want red (the fools). will pop in and out fairly regularly i think...haven't found a '2' yet, but will post up pics when i get one (and await an onslought of abuse! lol)
  8. ...as i no longer own a vr6...sold it to a guy of ed38 for
  9. i've never workd out what people mean when say a car is hunting?! does it mean its chasing rabbits round a woods or something?! lol
  10. do an oil change and put in some synta silver and go from there...a garage once put too thin an oil in my vr6 and it started smoking, changed it back to synta and it was fine again.
  11. i really don't think it'll be the coilpack tbh....try plugging in diagnostics...i reckon its more likely to something like crank sensor.
  12. yep, poor idle is usually the ISV. don't buy a new one, just give the current one a good clean with carb cleaner (sometimes takes a few cleans to get it perfect) its a silver cylindrical thing, next to the black plastic virbation damper.
  13. hall (or impule or camshaft as its also known)sender is just behind coilpack. engine speed (or crank) sensor is in front of block and the loom is cliped on just above the front engine mount (white plug on mine)
  14. as you turn the ig on you should hear a click from the fuse box, and if you listen very carefully in the boot it should make a kind of hum. but as you say you can hear it when the engine is on its prob not that. so to step 3 - check for sparks...unplug each plug lead seperately ( i prefer to unplug at coilpack end so as not to risk damamging leads), hold it with pair of pliers slightly away from coilpack and get someone to crank engine.
  15. idle stabilisation valve...is to the right of the TB...but only on obd1 cars. mine needs a clean as well...haven't got the time tho.
  16. well, what can it be...fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator/maf/ecu?...sadly i have no idea how to check any of that.
  17. ok, step two....start checking fuel system. you should hear the pump (in the boot) prime as you turn the ignition on.
  18. i would just remove the old one and pop in the new one....but then crank the engine wihtout the fuel pump fuse in till the rattling stops. if you wanted to be really sure you coudl set the engine to TDC before, and then check it again before you fire it up.
  19. well, lets start with the basics.....is it craking over when you try to start it? or is nothing happening?
  20. yep...top blade need box out, and not a bad idea to do clutch at same time...though mine had sh*t loads of life left so i left it. i'd go for another standard vw clutch unless you're planning serious power upgrades later.
  21. nah...its just the 'blade' that wears out from friction....never seen a prob with a bolt tensioner myself, though if someone removes and the piston moves out of it it will need rebleeding and sometimes that doesn't get done.
  22. best thing to do is get a coolant pressure test done so you can pin point the leak...you cant see it as its prob quite minor and only coming out at high revs.
