lol' date=' well i've changed mk2 gti engines before, done gearboxes on em and on fords, but the vr6 just seems so daunting !

i'm gonna leave it to the experts ! (stealth)[/quote']

Nothing daunting about the VR at all! Once you lift the manifold, it's a really tiny engine and everything is easy to get to. All you need is basic hand tools but 5 and 6mm allen sockets on a ratchet makes life a bit easier 8o)

021 133 227 J will be the same as its the gasket from the schrick to the lower manifold.

021 133 073 C is the gasket from the schrick to the throttle body for obd1 corrado vr6's. This will probably be different on obd2 and might even be different on obd1 golfs as the throttle body is a different size, im not completely sure on this one tbh.

Well, here she is (my car looks like all those I used to see in the VW mags now... :D )

How hard to fit? Straight forward enough - a few bits and bobs that made me have to use my own brain:

Ok - this is a Golf 1993 VR6 and OBD1:

1) The redundant bracket at the back of the manifold to the right as you look at it - the instructions say to bin it - but mine had all earth wires (4 or so) attached so you have to find another loacation to bolt them to - theres a handy spot on the on the cam chain cover...

2) You have to route the front plug leads along the same path as the injector wires that are there. This was prob the most frustrating part. I originally zip-tied them to the fuel rail as in the instructions - but then found that the Schrick sits too close to the fuel rail to allow any leads there - so I had to bin all the zip ties, twice!!! You also need to make sure that the leads are not in the way of the actuator.....

3) Having the SC and the water injection (i.e. having no room in the engine bay), meant the only spot for the air tank was under the rain guard next to the ECU - and I routed the vac pipes up to it via the rubber bung that all the ECU wires goes through in the bulk head on the right as you look at it.

4) I can confirm that pin 22 on the ECU (a green/black wire) is the tach signal - for my car anyway....

5) I mounted my Schrick controller ecu and solenoid under the rain guard also.

6) I didnt know if I could take switched power from anywhere at the ECU side, I rang Vince but he was out - so I just ran a wire down to the Coil power wire (the thicker black one) and all is OK.

7) The little controller light goes red then green when ready. The solenoid clicks once.

8) I managed to re-use my original throttle body gasket. I ran a thin knife under it and lifted it off carefully. If I had torn it, I would have been knackered....

Now - what it like to drive?

BRILLIANT!!!!! !amazed !amazed !amazed

You get a swathe of torque now - bit like a turbo that comes in real low - the engine note is really deep and burbly as the back of the car squats more - then you can feel the flap switching point a little then the engine/exhaust suddlenly goes quiet and you are past 4000rpms....! Its weird!!

Well worth the wait people!

We've done the right thing.

Good luck with your installs....!

Jules
