De-cat pipe & Centre Silencer (straight thru) Replacement Pipe.

Recommended Posts

I've got a SuperSprint bypass on mine hooked up to the standard exhaust and there's no extra noise at all, but that's because it's a proper expansion box rather than a straight through pipe. Another option is to remove the cat, bash out the cells and refit it, but there's no guarantee it'll remain quiet....but at least it will still be a cat, externally, come MOT day.

This is a superb idea. A decat pipe on the cheap (2nd hand knackered cats can be picked up for less than 10 quid!!).

Have you tried doing this? Is it possible to get all the cat material out?

I've got a spare cat sitting in the garage, so I might give it a go!

I'm interested in how you can fit a CAT with the innards taken out and still pass an MOT.... I bought my VR without the cat fitted, come MOT it was failed for emmissions, now it has been refitted permanently (done for last MOT) and passed emmissions. I have noted absolutely NO difference in performance OR noise! I have a supersprint system fitted, car makes a pleasing noise but REALLY quiet compared to my old MK1 GTI which had a powerflow exhaust... that was too much! If your car has say, 200bhp and you gain 1-5 bhp without Cat, then that only equals 0.5 - 2.5% power gain, not really enough to be noticeable by most peeps. I think in conjunction with other mods that it all adds up, i'm sticking with the cat for the moment just for convenience. :)
