Guest HITAN
Hi all, I have a golf vr6 2.8 K reg -95,000 miles. Had it for 4 years, great runaround for a fairly cheap motor. Can anyone help? i want to improve the performance 0-60?? I don't want to spend over a £1000. Also, do performance air filters and exhausts really make any difference? what about chipping or tuning? sorry, don't know to much about the mechanics but love driving the vr6.[ Edited ]
pete8tch 0
yes they do mate i have a chip , exhaust and filter but the 17s kill accelerationmind u mines 2.8..mines 92k with 144 on but it was rebuilt at dubsport 20,000 ago
fabio_vr6 0
2.6 vr6?they dont exist mate????? only came in 2.8 and 2.
stu h 0
a decent re-map, filter/incudtion kit (theres a group buy on at the mo for the BMC CDA which is highly reccomended-good price 2) and good exhaust are probably your best bet. maybe some cams?? any more than that and you really need to spend more money i.e shrick / supercharger
Guest HITAN
sorry, i typed 2.6 by accident instead of 2.8, will edit the change.Ok, so i'll get the exhaust and filter changed, how much is re-mapping and what sort of extra power can i expect, thanks for your help? badboyV6 4
remap anywhere from 250 to 400 depending on where you go- i think ingham got his (or knew someone) remapped cheap
Eat this 2
me and ingham got ours off the shelf not remapped cant remember the name bugger iirc it cost £190 ish ps 15s will give noticibly better acceleration over 17s
VR6Pete 1,455
collins performance powre chip.
acf8181 0
lower final drive
Eat this 2
collins performance powre chip.thats the 1 doh its deffo smoothed the already smooth engine out especially the schrick drop off point at 4k rpm
Eat this 2
lower final drive forgot that it does the thing as smaller wheels (lowers the cripplingly long gearing)
Guest HITAN
Thanks for your help, i've decided on an air/induction filter and exhaust with a service for now.I'm not a boy racer but i drive through the city to work and back everyday, the vr6 is great for nipping in and out of the traffic. What air/induction filter/exhaust system should i get, want to do it this weekend if possible.
FishWick 21
A 3.6 final drive (instead of the leggy 3.3) will perk the acceleration up quite nicely. Or a 3.94 from a Passat if you want ballistic acceleration...but with about a 120mph top speed, LOL!Good excuse to drop a quaiffe in aswell...
acf8181 0
been doing your homework kev? top stuff
Guest HITAN
OK, Can someone explain this 3.6 final drive thing, can i do this to my vr6, will it make the o-60 quicker? and how much will it cost.cheers
Eat this 2
it should do but the biggest difrence ul notice is when u can plant ur foot ie 2nd gear upwards itl go like stink but will do more revs for the same speed and motorway mpg will suffer for that reason
acf8181 0
i'm not sure how much each one will effect 0-60.....but as for top end, the o.e. ratio's (3.3 FD) will do a theretical 170mph ish (car will never have the power/aero to do that), where as with the 3.6 it will only do 140mph (or 120 with the 3.94)......thats a huge difference so i'd have expected a minimum of half a second to 60 decrease (in fact, i'd be reckoning maybe a second even)....but they're total guesses. Eat this 2
vrs will do 140 on standard gearing so theyd sit on the limiter (not good) no problem at all + ul get there quicker hehe
andy 0
If I was going to mod mine, I can't think of a better way of getting a bit more acceleration than a 3.6 final drive and a atb diff, bloody bargain really. How often do you do 145mph!
Eat this 2
not often lol BUT i do need as much mpg as i can squeeze out of the thirsty beast hehe
