Serious car choice Question. VR or Passat. Unbiased opinions welcome :)

Right, basically, I've got the VR6 back on the road but I also have the Passat.

Both have issues and this is where I'm tearing my bald hair out.

VR6.

1) 4 new tyres needed soon.

2) Inner CV joint on N/S driveshaft kaput.

3) Both Wishbones and balljoints need replacing.

4) Suspension needs replacing (I own a new set but will struggle to remove old set).

5) LOUD tapping "clank" coming from above cylinders 1 & 2 that seems to have become worse today.

6) Welding needed on O/S sill for MOT.

7) ? New HT leads, coilpack, Lambda, MAF.....

Passat

1) Hot starting issue

2) Front link of wishbone needs replacing (£30 more expensive than both balljoints and wishbones for VR6).

3) Crank pulley for auxiliary belt needs looking at and probably replacing.

4) Both cam sensors need replacing... £££'s

5) 3 of the 4 lambdas need replacing...£££'s

6) Powersteering pipe at the pump has split and will cost to replace.

7) 3 new tyres needed.

The VR6 is cheaper to repair and costs less to insure but drinks fuel.

Passat is more expensive to fix, insure BUT gives me double my VR6's milage.

Both put a smile on my face in different ways, just the VR is rapid after 10 months in the Passat.

What do you guys n girls think? :)

There's always one. To be fair though, I always allow for one wise guy.... always craig lol. :)

The thing that is bugging me the most, is the tapping and the welding.

No point spending crud loads of money if the tapping is an underlying issue that damages the engine.

Agreed sell the passat either how it is. I'm sure by the sounds of it you could get a better vr for the money considering how much vr's have dropped in value over the last year. Break the black one for spares for the new one or some extra money. It would be the tapping putting me of fixing the black one vr engines aren't cheap to fix and getting a good engine second hand is always a risk.
