Seademon 0
When I got my VR6 I noticed a big heavy metal bar in my engine bay just to the right of the coilpack but I could never really seem to find out what it does and why its there - today I found out that it moves my gear stick around and puts the car in gear! !dodge What the hell is it for?![ Edited ]

acf8181 0
its the balance weight....it helps the car into gear.and yes, o2a boxes are nasty....even good condition ones.

mk3anni 0
Is there no way of converting them to rod change?I HATEEEEEEEEE the VR6 cable change!Apparently if you put in the 02j gear change tower it makes a HUGE difference.
antera309 3
The cable change 'box ain't great. Downshifting from 4th to 2nd for overtaking causes particular problems.I've been driving my Mk3 cab on it's original 1.8 engine & rod-shift gearbox and there are no such problems with this setup. It will be a shame to lose the rod-shift...

mightyvr6 0
I don't think it's that bad. Changing the gearbox oil will improve the shift, changing the bushes on the shifter might help or using a different counterweight.
VRmonster 1
yeah, i read on the vortex somwhere that if you shave labout 9mm off the front of the counterweight it will improve changes. but obviously it will need to be a good box with new oil/bushes and syncromesh. or theres just no point doing anything.
