geo7087 11
Ok so the time has come to renew the tyres on My Audi TT compsspec of the wheels is 7.5J et 32.now up until this point I've been running 195/40 falkens on them, giving this amount of stretch on the wheelas i'm having archwork done this month and will shortly after be running spacers out back and possibly a bit of camber i'm wondering whether i go for a thinner tyre. Now after looking through sits my options are as follows185/35/17 - ruling this out as i think 35 sidewall looks ridiculous165/40/17 - this is looking like a possibility, to try and get a bit more poke from the edge of the wheelimage taken from tyre stretch siteim swinging towards the 165 tyre but your opinions would be appreciated, basically im after visible poke from the edge of the alloy
VR6Nat 9
Personally i think what you had was bang on... i think 165 is too far, but then i think stretch to that extreme is a bit hmmm... gay. lol. but each to their own really. its all just opinion, its down to what you think looks best. Dont worry about what people think, there will be people that love it and people that hate it.
wag 0
a friend of mine was running this exact setup and if im honest it handled like a DOG! depends what ur looking for mate to be honest if its just looks the 165 will be fine if not the 185 or 195 option would be best
Ian_rogers 0
I wouldn't personally run 165's, I considered it but then thought bout how much tyre would be on the road n with 170+ bhp that's way too little contact! If I was runnin a 1.2 I wouldn't uve been bothered but with a 2.8 I think 165 is way to narrow
Just_Paul 0
Hmm personally, I'd say stick with the 195s, visible stretch, but not silly amounts! At the end of the day it's up to u tho dude, if u want plenty of 'poke' and don't mind the handling issues it may cause, go for the 165's, but imo, that's just not enough rubber for a VR! VeedubVR 0
How much poke to you want? I say stretch tyres only when needed. My mate has 185/35 on a 7 and it looks good but he says the ride is very hard!
VR6Nat 9
i drove my mates Passat on mega stretched tyres n it felt like a bag of poop. Handles well bad in rough conditions too.
Ben Seabrook 4
stick with the 195 mate - nice little bit of stretch without being silly inmo
VeedubVR 0
Also got to consider not all tyres stretch the same. Only nankang make 165 and imo they don't stretch that well! However the likes of toyo, falken and dunlop stretch quite nicely due to being a softer tyre
richievr 1
i have 165/50/15 on my mk1 golf and that doesn't have enough traction!! dread to think what it would like on a vr!!! i say stick with the 195's..
CALICO 130
you say you dont like 35 tyres but 165 40 17's will actually have a smaller side wall than a 185 35 17 as the side wall is a percentage figure of the tyre width not what the sidewall is in centimeter's
finny 0
My motorbike has wider tyres than 165!What ever you do, do inform your insurance company you have gone for smaller width tyres than standard.Don't want the insurance to have an excuse not to cover you as it wasn't declared when you fitted just a tiny bit less rubber on the road, if ever there was an accident claim. geo7087 11
Insurance company are already aware of the 195 width tyres fitted currently, thinking i'm most likely going to stick with the 195 rubber
finny 0
Good man, don't want to hear any insurance company deciding not pay out considering how much time, money and scraped knuckles we all endure keeping our cars going and in tip top shape.I've just put those falkens (912?) on my car (205 width of course). 205s don't offer much rim protection, its very flush on my alloys. Looks good but I'll need to be extra careful with kerbs.
geo7087 11
yeh think its 912, the sidewalls stretch really nicely, i think any other 195 tyre would sit completely differently so im going to stick with the falkens
*P3nfold* 0
I am looking at running 195/45/16 on 8j's and I think thats enough.
Mick_F 0
you should try the 165 just to see what its like
