Billing 2010 Annual meet report

Recommended Posts

Well yet again we have just held our annual meet at Billing Aquadrome in Northampton.

The Friday started at a sensible hour as I met several other members at Cambridge for a little convoy up to the camp-site via the supermarket and a small detour !! Upon arrival the tents were quickly put up, chairs got out beers opened, Pimms made and relax, throughout the afternoon more members arrived the gazebos came with a couple of members and were swiftly put up in case of any more showers.

For the rest of the evening their was plenty of greeting of old mates and making new ones, chatting about each others cars what have changed etc and one or two beers and jugs of Pimms were sunk along the way. In the evening yet again Nige but on a fantastic display with plenty of music and some big screen TV action.

The Saturday is always a nice relaxed affair with plenty of time to chat, clean/tinker with the car and make trips to the go-karts ( yet again one of the funniest moments of the weekend) the fun-fair and the chippy etc with a fair amount of cleaning taking place along with some other members popping in and a few having to leave. The weather was better with only a couple of showers but that didn’t dampen our mood at all. The evening was spent the same way with plenty of barbecue food to help soak up the beer !!

Sunday heralds the arrival of the semi-serious business of the Show and Shine. As soon as people had got the first cup of tea down the cleaning commenced and the camp-site was a blur of activity as everyone ( yes even Craig and Nige !!) proceeded to polish their pride and joy to within an inch of its life ! By lunchtime the cleaning was done and the judging was started, the provided plenty of head scratching and deliberating after a couple of hours the slips were all handed back and we tallied up the results.

So that was it – a fantastic weekend full of laughter, information, chat, and some great memories all provided by our brilliant club members. I would like to say a couple of thankyou's, firstly to Nige for yet again providing all the entertainment facilities and general camp-site stuff, it just wouldn’t be the same without you mate. Secondly Jake Fronda very kindly sponsored 3 of the awards given out and provided some fantastic gifts to go along with them which I am sure the members were delighted with. Lastly but by no means least I would like to thank everyone who made the effort to attend the show, it would obviously be nothing without you and its all your great personalities and cracking cars that make these shows such great fun to attend, a nicer, friendlier bunch of people I don’t think you could meet.

The rest of my pics will be up asap and roll on 2011 :)

The voting this year was tough. No single car stood out in any of the catagories ( well maybe one ) and in at least one group the top three places where only seperated by two votes.

I think I'm right in saying that all the cars got at least one vote for something or other. Some very subtle mods got noted such as Barry's top mounts modded to fit scooby kit or the not so subtle, Tonys fitting of an Astra diesal van body to a golf chassis! In fact we did make Craig vote properly in the end!

Even if the trophies where unexpected I personally think they were all well deserved.

The benchmark has been set for next year,

you are correct Nige the voting was very close in every category and in several over half the cars shared out the votes so it shows how tricky it was :) and as above I think they were all well deserved
