I was talking to this Chav yesterday round my mates tyre place, he was telling us he got caught doing an average of 116.4mph over a 3.1mile distance on the M1 nr wakefield, they took him to court, he pleaded with the magistrate that he'd loose his job, gave him the sob story, he even took his boss with him to court. He ended up with 12points and a 1500quid fine. So it is possibe to keep your licence after being caught doing over 100mph but for 3years that the points are on there's always that chance that he could loose it.

You can still retain your license on 12 points, but as soon as you go 1 over, it's gone.

The only Nova I can think of that is capable of that speed is the twin engined Regal Nova.

Saw it at Trax a couple of years ago doing 0-60 in 2.8 secs. It holds the 0-60 record at Trax.

I've had the prosecution notice in the post unfortunately, so I've definately been caught at 113mph.

MK2R32 - £1500 fine - think I'd rather have a 6 month ban!!

I'd have to sell the car to pay a fine like that anyway :(

As for a 177mph Nova - it's possible (I've seen plenty of 200mph Ford Populars at Santa Pod) but using the rule;

Required power increase = Relative increase in top speed cubed

means that to get a 100bhp Nova GSi (for example) to go from 115mph to 177mph (1.54 times faster) it would need 1.54 x 1.54 x 1.54 times the power.

Or about 365bhp.

Whether it would stay on the ground at that speed is another matter!!

Mark, I'm gutted for you : ( I'm surprised you weren't chased!. Keep us posted as to how it pans out mate.

As John said, you could go to court and say about you needing your licence for work etc. You'll probably get a BIG fine and a short ban. Then when you get your licence back, it'll have no points on it but it will have a ban. Or you could get a fine and 12 points, still keep your licence and if you get any more points, you'll loose it for a longer period.

I don't fancy your chances with insuring your beast after all this, sorry dude.

one of my friends got caught at 149 in his 2.0 16v calibra! his grandad took the points and ban cauz he didnt need to drive any more where as my mate did. he got 18month ban and 6 points and i cant remember the fine! he was lucky cauz he had just been doin just over 170mph. he had just run in his schrick cams, crazy head and 6speed box! that thing really flew but it looked like a spaceship! ive heard of people gettin off by gettin there employer to wirte a letter to the court sayin if they lose there license they`ll b out of a job

yep, i got the full story from my mate again today...he was doing about 130 indicated, saw the van on the bridge and braked hard, but too late. they didn't pull him, he got a letter sent to him.

he also got his boss to write a letter. he just got seven week ban, no points, and about £100 court costs.

oh, and the really funny (or stupid) bit is once he'd been to where he was going when he got caught....he then got pulled over at 95mph on the way home and got 3 points. lmao.

UPDATE (If anyone's interested).

Appeared in court on Tuesday, pleaded guilty, had a sorry schoolboy look on my face and told the magistates how I appreciated that the speed I was doing was totally unacceptable and out of character (half true).

I got a 28 day ban and £275 fine which was pretty lenient I thought.

Glad I didn't pay the £350 that a solicitor wanted to mitigate for me! Pretty sure I wouldn't have got away without a ban as the 2 guys that went in before me both got 6 points and a fine for doing 101mph and I reckon I had to be made an example of.

My only worry now is insurance premiums!

Still, I've got 4 weeks of being chauffeured and drinking beer to surf for quotes for bad boys.

Anyone know of any understanding insurance brokers?
